Hmmmm, given the forced break I have decided to take the day off, after all, I have set up 60+ panels throughout all of this. I think a break is fair.

While I am at it, @Lightsong @TheBlueCat @saentiel @Mea @PrincessInk @EternalRain any of you feel like giving your thoughts on the forum adventure so far? Things you think are worth changing, things you think need more focus, things you would have liked more detail focused on?

I think it's been cool so far! I think I don't really get the puzzle nature of the game yet because there haven't been extended logic puzzles yet, but this is only the first room. I think it would be good if it were clearer what the end goal in the room we're in at the time is - even if it's just a locked door or an outline of an exit and there's no clues on how to get the door/exit opened. Then we have something to work towards rather than just trying random things.

Your updates are really funny and I'm enjoying the drawings and the humor a lot.
We're all stories in the end.

Thank you for replying @Mea . I figured some very basic puzzles to learn the logic of the world would work out best without directly telling anyone what to do, but good point, directly saying the end goal would probably make things easier, and encurage people to reply more so that I actually have enough comments to work with.

Also happy to hear you like the humor and art.

Ughhhh....lets wait until it stops smoking. Your mother always told you smoking was bad for you, and you get the impression that lesson holds true here.

See what apps are loaded onto the smartphone.

Oh yeah, you have a phone! Being part of the incredibly poor portion of the population you never got to try one of these! Lets see what all those wealthy teens have been obsessed with.

Image

Image

Hm, from the looks of it, CMD, which your vague understanding of computers tells you is the command list, then there is that hug client, and then a app called Scan. Huh, this phone thing isn't as cool as you thought it was. Maybe it was cat videos that teens were obsessed with? That sounds about right.

Try calling someone on the smartphone.

Well, there was someone online in that hug app, lets see if they can reply.

Image

Oh it looks like they already noticed you were online.

???: Oh cool someone new is online. Hi there!

???: Hello?

???: Did you get killed in a puzzle already?

???: If you turn out to be alive, friend me so that I can tell if you are just away or dead.

???: It's really easy, just double click/tap my user icon.

...and they seem very chatty, at least you know they won't ignore you. Following their advice you double tap that icon thing next to the black bar that says 'friends only'. You hear a ding as their name shows up on the screen. Whatever their name is, you feel like you should say something cool, give them a good impression of you.

(cue for you guys to name a new character, and define their gender as well, note I do not mind drawing or writing any sort of character, trans, gay or anything else that is rare in writing, if you want to vote for those things. Beyond that remember to suggest things for Clyde to say to them.)

Hm, a girl named Milligan Mallory, pretty hard to pronounce name, but it sort of reminds you of a super hero.

MM: Oh sweet you answered!

MM: Happy to see you amoung the living!

Type to the person "I'm only in the first room so far, but I'm totally acing it."

CM: Well, I've had a few close calls, but I think I'm pretty amazing at this.

MM: How close?

CM: Well I was almost incinerated after being launched up a very narrow elevator platform, after being attacked by a tentacle monster.

MM: What stage are you on?

CM: If stages mean those magic doors that expect stuff. The first one.

MM: Ahhh... then you're doomed.

CM: Thanks for the vote of confidence.

MM: You're welcome, it's what I do. Oh wait, what's you're score?

CM: Score?

MM: When you dump things into the hole, it tells you to value for the door, and the worth of whatever you threw in. How far over or under did you get? The higher you get, the easier it is, and the lower value the things you find are. The lower the value the more deadly the puzzles, and more valuable the items you get are.

CM: Ah, then 4.

MM: Well it was nice knowing you. You're on easy mode and almost getting killed.

You're getting the impression she think's you're going to get yourself killed. Rude.

Way, way back in the 1988 Presidential election, then Vice President George H W Bush had a phrase he liked to use: "A Thousand Points of Light." It refers to the idea that a community is made up of people who contribute in a thousand, different small ways, but with each helping to illuminate their community. It's a phrase I think about a lot when it comes to YWS. Looking forward, the site will continue to change and grow, but it will always remain a community dedicated to promoting creative writing as a favorite pastime.
