    I have the chance to try out for an All-State Orchestra and in need of a solo piece to audition with. Any ideas?

    I JUST got a copy of Rhapsody in Blue for piano from my teacher! Not sure yet how to approach it, except for taking it REALLY slowly. :D (it's kind of intimidating, to be honest.) but I'm really excited. I've been looking for it EVERYWHERE, and we finally found it! :D I really feel accomplished. :D

    *desperate attempt to revive club*

    I got back from a 3-week music camp about a week ago, and I learned that if there's one thing I need more experience with, it's chamber music. I had a really hard time being confident in my part, since there was no one playing it with me to back me up!

    There's a much shorter day camp that I'll be going to for chamber music soon, and I'm joining a quartet in the fall, so hopefully I won't be quite as lost next year. :D

    I'm also working on becoming more familiar with classical composers, since a lot of people there had a lot of music history knowledge that I didn't. And I'm learning more about theory- I finally understand Roman numeral analyses now!

    Piano recital coming up in less than two weeks! :D

    A former student of my teacher's (who went on to study piano performance or something in college, and who was, and kind of still is my piano role model) is coming back to play some. :D :D I haven't seen her in forever, so it should be fun.

    I'm playing Moonlight Fantasy , by Melody Bober, and Snowbird's Journey , by Kathleen Massoud (Also a composition of my mine called "____ Insert Clever Title Here".. I'm not good at naming my own songs. >.<. It's one of my "less-prepared recitals", which literally in my "language" translates to - "These are the pieces that I haven't already played at a recital that don't sound horrible."

    I'm not even sure I completely have Moonlight Fantasy - but at least it's not like I'm in front of a huge audience. Normally it's just around 30 people.

    Anyway, I'm excited, nonetheless. :D


    (Do any other pianists have problems with playing Carolyn Miller and Melody Bober songs all the time? It seems like that's all I ever play now. xD)

    How do I get back into loving orchestral music/ finding good jazz violin pieces? I haven't been in orchestra in... close to a year, since college has started. :(

    Oh my goodness, after about two months of no violin lessons (and unfortunately, no practicing either), it feels so good to get back into the swing of things. :D

    I'm starting to think I might actually be able to play without sounding like a screaming toddler too bad! ;) :D

    Haha, I see that pun: "swing of things". Heh heh. Because Swing is a form of music, and you can swing with your violin, and you can also swing your violin... get it? get it? GET IT?!!?!?!?!?!?!??!

    So I get to play piano for Jazz Band - and since I've been playing for about 6-7 years, I'd figured it would be really easy! Just playing a few chords over and over again or something...

    Then this morning at rehearsal, when I first got my sheet music:

    YES! IT IS GOING TO BE AMAZING! I highly recommend that you listen to some bomb bass players, such as Esperanza Spalding. She plays electric and upright! ;)

    Violinist who is also learning cello...so I went down to my basement yesterday and I find a bass guitar in what I thought was an empty guitar bag! And I was like "Mom why did you never tell me we owned a bass guitar all these years?" And she was like "I thought you knew!" So...yup, now I'm going to be playing a third string instrument.

    Guys I have a question. I'm just starting to learn Mozart violin sonata no. 36 and I cant seem to get the fast slurred notes in the beginning of the piece. Any ideas or techniques, anything would be appreciated.
    By the way I'm a violinist.

    Well, I don't play violin, but I can tell you something that my piano teacher taught me, that may help (or may not help...) you. :) My piano teacher calls it "Stomp and Ugly". :D (mostly because she has younger students... :) ) You just play the notes extra long, and super loud over and over again. It creates muscle memory. (I often have to do this because I start playing the song WAY too fast the first time... :D ) I don't know how you would do this on the violin, but I hope it helps! :)
