Holy Matrimony a Dreadful Thing

PreviousNext

Standing in front of the mirror.
Her reflection a sight to see.
A real lady with class .
Not a hair out of place.

Lips painted into a smile.
Eyes empty as a starless night.
In a dress of lace and tulle.
Around her neck a noose of pearls .

It’s her big day
But it feels like a death sentence.
Holds her tongue
She has a family name to live up to.

It's her duty to her namesake.
She'll gladly walk to her coffin.
And marry a man she'll never love.
Only because she loves her family.

Will sacrifice her happiness.
Just to appease them.
Holy Matrimony a dreadful thing.
Her own worst nightmare.

First want to say that I liked your poem, and now on to errors I noticed...

#1 Their are too many periods, try commas and shake it up a bit.

#2 Try rearranging the stanzas a little, like making the last two verses in the last stanza it's own stanza and putting the first two verses in with the second to the last stanza. ( If that makes any sense...)

Those are the only problems with your poem that I saw, other then that I think it was a very good poem. :D

Alright, just a few things:

Grammar:
Punctualization in a poem is a tricky thing. You need not put a period at the end of every sentance because that signifies a rest. It's still just like writing a sentance. In your porm alot of them are cut off. It should be:

Standing in front of the mirror.
Her reflection a sight to see.
A real lady with class .
Not a hair out of place.

Lips painted into a smile,
Eyes empty as a starless night.
In a dress of lace and tulle,
Around her neck a noose of pearls .

It’s her big day,
But it feels like a death sentence.
Holds her tongue,
She has a family name to live up to.

It's her duty to her namesake,
She'll gladly walk to her coffin.
And marry a man she'll never love,
Only because she loves her family.

Will sacrifice her happiness,
Just to appease them.
Holy Matrimony a dreadful thing.
Her own worst nightmare.

There see, throw some commas in there. I didn't see any more incorrect words, so great job there.

Flow:
Ok, while most of this flows good, there were a few stanzas that could use some fixing up. Such as:
It’s her big day,
But it feels like a death sentence.
Holds her tongue,
She has a family name to live up to.
This is so different from your other stanzas. I would recommend maybe lengthening It's her big day and Holds her tongue or shortening the other two lines.

Other than these, its good. Good luck and keep writing!

Hi there! I'm going to review your fantastic work of art, so yeah.

First things first,
I really liked the concept of this poem. The only problem was is that it needed a bit more punctuation, that way, the reader will be able to read with emotion. I think you should edit some stanzas, maybe just tweak it a little bit. Some of your words were spelled wrong.

Don't worry, you did a great job, it just needs to be edited a bit more. My favorite stanza was this,

"It's her duty to her namesake
She'll gladly walk to her coffin
And marry a man she'll never love
Only because she loves her family"

It was so sweet and beautiful to me. Anyway, keep writing more AMAZING WORKS!

Hello I am Chuck!
Okay for starters something I noticed straight away is that your poem lacks punctuation.
In the third stanza wouldn't Supposed make more sense?
Also in the last stanza you spelt dreadful wrong.
I don't really have anything else to say besides that I really like it.
Keep up the good work!

Thank you :) haha I honestly just noticed those mistakes now. I just wanted to get everything written down since it was fresh in my head. I should have read over it. I shall correct those now.
