E - Everyone

In poetry

PreviousNext

I'm staring at the blank walls,

Seeing you one last time.

I'm trying to forget you from all my memories.

But pictures just run through my mind,

Why can't you understand?

you lost me through all your innocent lies!

I wish it was different,

But it was given to me this way.

And i guess that's the way i'll leave it.

Alright, so this has potential, but as it is, it's a little bare and generic. This is something that's hard to get away from in poetry, particularly when you're writing about something like love (or the lack thereof). You have some common themes that aren't given enough attention to achieve depth, and the result is a lack of cohesiveness or originality. While this poem is certainly not by any means bad, and in fact shows plenty of potential, I think it would also benefit a lot if you were to really flesh out the heart of your poem.

Also look at your punctuation and make sure you use it properly; at times, it felt that a period or dash would be more suitable than a comma, and in particular, I think that it would be beneficial to get rid of the exclamation point - they tend to make the tone melodramatic when it really isn't necessary.

I feel like you finally started to make this more personal toward the end with the last three lines. There was an edge to the words that gave it a subtle bitterness and changed the tone at the last minute.

While there is still a bit of vacancy in this poem, I think that this is a promising start. I hope this review helps, and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. Keep writing, and best wishes. xxx

Hey there! Purple here to give you a review. Let's get started then.
You probably have a better idea of what this is about than I do, but I'm guessing lost love. Some of the lines don't exactly sound very poetic or fit in with the others. For example "But it was given to me this way", What was given to you what way? Like I was saying, it probably makes sense to you if this is based off your experiences but to a reader it's a bit confusing. Other than that you get the point across and it's rather sad. It's not just you lost them or they lost you, it's both and equal loss. Keep it up!

Hey Tiny here!

I just have a couple nit picky things. :)

I wish it was different,

But it was given to me this way.

And i guess that's the way i'll leave it.

After way should be a comma instead of a period since you use the word and afterwards.

I'm trying to forget you from all my memories.

But pictures just run through my mind,

Why can't you understand?

Instead of a period after memories maybe make it a comma and then the comma after mind into a period. They just seem like completely different thoughts to me.
