We are in the society where having a relationship is nothing but a label of belongingness. Nowadays, teenagers tend to give more focus in achieving their relationship goals or making themselves mature and sexy than playing outside with friends. It seems social media did a nasty job of taking away the carefree and innocence that kids should be enjoying. Eventually, movie producers choose younger actors and actresses to play couples in romantic movies just to grab most of the viewers (which I’d say most are adolescent) and famous celebrities continue to show skin and liberation as fab and at times, their cheesy relationship status which initiates the young ones to try out of curiosity. Because of this, pre-marital sex and early pregnancy becomes the norm for all they care is 'We love each other, that's all that matters'.
With such idea, people are bothered being single especially when they reach their twenties. They feel that the real happiness could only be found when that special someone comes... marrying that someone and having a happily ever after. Eventually, they became determined in looking for someone to label as a girlfriend or boyfriend but because of ingenuity of feelings, lack of seriousness and immaturity, most of the time, they just end up hurting themselves, resulting to hopelessness or worst, depression. I might say that some may be in denial of their hunger for “in a relationship status” so they just focus on their career, or on their family and friends just to keep them company.
In my case, being a 21 year old professional does not exempt me from the demands of the society. Most of the time, my friends and even my parents tease me about my singleness. They say that the clock's ticking so I better hurry up, even my mom pushes me to atleast date a guy or chat with someone over the internet because she wants me to have a family of my own and have a granddaughter from me. I cannot resist the questions and somehow insecurities that I feel whenever I saw a couple holding hands, sitting across the table while me on the other hand, indulging myself on a Harry Potter series...drinking my milktea alone. But on the contrary, I thought maybe there is a reason why I am single. It's not bad honestly, because there are things you will discover only when you are with yourself.
First, you could go to places and appreciate them without asking permission from someone. You could hang out with friends in both sexes because no one will get jealous or misunderstand what you're doing. Most of the couples out there have this as the reason for their pity fights. Next, you could decide whatever you want for yourself. You can wear short skirts or dresses or wear make ups of your liking and no one will rant about it. You could have the time of your life to enhance, enjoy and discover yourself that you cannot do when you are in a relationship. Why? It's because you will have your full attention to your partner and to what he/she asks you to do even at times, you disagree with it. That's what love is right-whatever makes him/her happy? Lastly, you develop something inside you that most of the generations today do not have-Patience. It takes a good and a responsible person to have patience in everything especially in this subject. Even if the world tells you to be- you just don't do it for you have the patience to wait for the right time.
There is nothing wrong with finding someone and being involve in a romantic commitment as long as you have the right reasons and you already consider the responsibilities that you will have to yourself and to your partner. Relationships can be fulfilling especially when found at the right season so it might be a good idea to avoid hastening yourself and don’t be desperate enough to look for one. Enjoy your life especially when you're single, stay on your standards and trust in God's plans.

I agree. There is more to life than relationships. I just like to 'enjoy the now'. When was the last time you read a teen fiction book with no romance?
Very deep.
Just recently. Thanks for the comment
Hey! Ashlingwolf here! Happy review day!
I will say, I really like your writing about the idea of just being happy how you are, and not trying to rush your life because everyone else is doing it. Just to acknowledge that your whole life is ahead of you and that you don't need to rush into different situations. Your point is brought across quite nicely and with good writing that I enjoyed reading.
This piece is the perfect length- it is detailed and descriptive, but not too long, therefore not turning into some rant where you just state the same points over and over, which was nice.
I am a little confused about the beginning of the last paragraph, when you say to
"go to places and appreciate them without asking permission from someone"
I'm not quite sure exactly what this means. Could you explain please?
I didn't find any grammatical errors, but I could have missed something, so I'll just say what I always say- always remember to proofread your work!
To conclude, I really enjoyed this piece. Keep writing!

Thank you %uD83D%uDE00
This is a good piece and you really are speaking based on your experiences because a normal 21 year old would never risk him or herself with such responsibility that they're never ready for. I mean being 21 is still young and there's still a lot that is ahead of you. The thing is, the generation in our society changes from time to time which is hard to grasp and have control over as of speaking from now, youth will always be curious, so teenage pregnancy happens and at such a very young age of fifteen, it's hard when curiosity kicks in.
On the other hand, there's is nothing wrong with being in a relationship. Being in a relationship doesn't justify the fact that it's because you were sad and couldn't find happiness within yourself and the others. It could be a different reason such as spirit of inquiry, the enjoyment, or it can be peer pressure. It's just in the way how you handle such situation that can lead into something risky.
Otherwise, you have good organization in writing and clear view points. I like that it's an easy read and there's no confusion regarding the fact that you went straight to the point. But always make sure that you give instances and solid reasons as to why social media affects our generation especially the youth. Way to go fellow comrade writer!
Thank you so much for this comment. It's just most of people that I vome across which are sinhles arr very worried about themselves being single. This article I think can somehow makes encourage them to look on the bright side of things...making them realize the advantage of waiting and being single. But I really have nothing against having a relationship. Anyways, thank you %uD83D%uDE00

Hello Thestraycat,
I would like to say that I do know where you're coming from and I see your point from the essay is that society wrongly depicts being in a relationship as the most important thing in life, and it should be our center aspiration.
You do have a good point on your side though your essay could improve in some areas.
The biggest issue I had with your essay was the lack of evidence.
" It seems social media did a nasty job of taking away the carefree and innocence that kids should be enjoying. Movies continue to represent younger ones as a portrayal of romance, initiating the 'kilig' factor that brings about curiosity to them"
From this expert here, I find your can elaborate more. How does social media and movies take away innocence and potrays romance wrong? Talk about how Instagram celebrities promote superficial values as in appearance. Touch upon which movies depict romance unrealistically and how.
"They became determined in looking for someone to label as a gf/bf or to experience having a relationship but most of the time, they just end up hurting themselves, resulting to hopelessness or worst..depression."
First off, the phras is "resulting in". Then I would ask you also elaborate this idea too. How do people get depression from determinately searching for a relationship? Is it because people look for anyone to be their significant other or even people who would hurt them? I need more here. Also I would not put "bg/gf". It is to colloquial.
"I might say that some may be in denial so they just focus on their carreer, or on their family and friends just to keep them company."
I am confused. In denial about what? I feel like this part here clumsily attatches to your point,
"They feel that the real happiness could only be found when that special someone comes...proving that there is a happily ever after."
I really loved your point here. You're right people don't realize that when people get married or get together that is not a happy ending. It's more like a happy milestone and there are more obsticles ahead.
The last paragraph about the wonders of being single is too long. I would shorten it. It is too longwinded, and honestly I got bored at.
Going back to the first paragraph, you should replace "kid" with adolescence because kids are counted as 4-12, and I think teens wanting to be sexy and in a relationship is much more relevant in that age range.
My favorite part of this whole essay is when you talk about yourself which sounds counterintuitive, but readers could relate to you when you mention your insecurities and how your family teases you about your relationship status.
You do have good points. To summaries, you can add and clearify a few thing but other than that the ideas and most of the writing here is pretty good. Also what I would have liked to have seen is recognizing the other side as well. You should address that if people want a relationship for the right reason, relationships are fulfilling and that you understand the appeal of being romantically involved.
Okay I hope you make your chosen edits and revision, and maybe do something with this essay.
Keep writing.

Hey I really appreciate your correction and I will try to edit some part of my article that you are pointing at. Thank for reading!

Hi there !
I would have posted more, but I can't as I'm not good at reviewing articles and poetry, but you deserve a shoutout for writing this anyhow. What an amazing job!
