I walk through the Hall
The Hall of 100 Mirrors.
In each one I see
A different side of me
Even though they're all the same.
In one, who I was.
In another, who I am.
In many more, my secret hopes, dreams, and wishes
Of everything I could have been.
Everything I could be.
I see a bit of everything
Not even I
Can quite comprehend
The faces staring back at me
And they're all mine.

**I know this is a little old to review, but still...
I liked this poem, but the flow was a little choppy. Like those before me, "The Hall of 100 Mirrors" would read best as "The Hall of A Hundred Mirrors." Also, maybe it's just me, but I thought that "A different side of me" would work better as "A different side of myself." I just thought it made the poem more flow-y, and because it was part of the only rhyme, it wouldn't destroy your work.
Wow. Talk about a blast from the past. I did post another version where I changed that second line. But yeah, I'm leaving this as is. It's not great, but it was the first poem I wrote. Thanks for the review!
Wow, somebody must've been bored to dredge up a 4-year-old poem. This was my first attempt EVER! Thanks for the compliments!
I really liked the subject of this poem, it was quite different. The way you worded it, not quite lyrical, not quite short-sounding, really coplemented it. Good job!
I like it... very... though provoking.
Yes, I agree with Firestarter - very thought-provoking. It does need some work, however, in my opinion.
I walk through the Hall
The Hall of 100 Mirrors.
In each one I see
A different side of me
As Firestarter pointed out, I think the second line would be better using the words "a hundred Mirrors" rather than the numbers. Also, the rhyme in the last two lines makes things a little dodgy so far as the rhythm goes, if you ask me. I would change the verse to read: "I walk through the hall/of a hundred mirrors/in each one seeing/a different side of me". But thats just me.
Even though they're all the same.
In nne, who I was.
In another, who I am.
In many more, my secret hopes, dreams, and wishes
Of everything I could have been.
I would take away the "even" in the first line of this section - it spoils the flow, I think - and change the full stop at the end to a dash ("Though they're all the same -/in one, who I was;/in another, who I am"). I would also add an "and" to the beginning of the forth line; "and in many more, my secret..." This line seems a tad long. Perhaps you could break it down a bit? Not sure. And I'd get rid of the "Of" in the last bit. It isn't necessary and the poem reads more powerfully without it.
Everything I could be.
I see a bit of everything
Not even I
Can quite comprehend
The faces staring back at me
And they're all mine.
You have already repeated "everything" twice, and while I may just be being picky because my teachers were so fussy about repeating stuff, but I think repeating it again in the second line of this section is going a bit too far. It detracts from the other 'everythings', lol. Perhaps it could simply change to "I see shards of a future" or "bits" or something - whatever suits you best. This is a bit run-on here. I'm not entirely sure what you mean. Is it supposed to read that you see a bit of everything not even you can comprehend, or do you mean that not even you can comprehend all the faces staring back at you? You need to clarify that bit, I think, with a bit of punctuation. And only use what I just suggested (about "I see...") if it fits with the meaning you choose.
A great poem, definitely some good ideas coming through here. I look forward to seeing some more from you nightowl!
I quite liked this, it was good, and thought-provoking.
I think this would be better as, "I walk through the Hall, of a hundred mirrors" (seperate lines still).
