Blank Pages Seldom Empty

In Rovaalian.

PreviousNext

I’m sitting in bed,

My back propped against two old pillows,

With a laptop burning into my thighs,

The backlight searing into my brain

Like a branding iron

In the shape of an empty page.

It is white, and hot

Like a sun,

But only because it is so dark.

~

There are no words on this page.

Contrarily, my mind brims.

I have many words,

Many languages even.

But there are some things, I think,

That everyone thinks

But never says, or will ever say.

~

So it is that my mind burns white,

White as hot iron,

White as a sun,

White as a blank page.

~

So much white…

~

They say that white light

Is not the absence of color,

But the infinite abundance

Of every visible shade.

Perhaps it is that a blank page

Can be seen as empty,

Without words or marking.

Or perhaps it is the perfect abundance

Of everything that everyone has ever said

And more even than that.

~

Perhaps it is like poetic white noise.

~

Perhaps this is what swims in my mind even now.

Static.

Unintelligible.

Meaningless, or omnisignificant.

Both, and neither.

Nothing, and everything.

Pure, and impure.

~

White.

Overall I think this is great! The idea behind this is wonderful. I love how it is based on a cor, but the idea that a color is more than just simply that. If I were you I may use a different analogy when saying "white as hot iron," it just seems as though there are many more meaningful things you could use in place of that. Not to be picky though, I just think that this is an incredible piece and I would hate to see even one minor thing hurt the imagery you've created. Great work!

I absolutely love this! The imagery was really fresh and vivid in my mind throughout the entire thing, especially the part about sitting in bed on the laptop, mainly because that's what I'm doing right now. I also adore the concept of white being pure and impure at the same time. There's such a dual meaning to white and I love what you've done here. Solid and amazing.
