Guidance

E - Everyone

In poetry

I look up for my guidance,
for looking down is surely a scornful thing to do
There above me,
is you

My idol,
my guide
A wonderful creature
who counts the many times I have cried

Giants aren’t always gentle,
for you it is different
It’s one thing to be caring,
and another to be considerate

You are both,
there for the entire ride
Not to enjoy the show,
but to be by my side

Hi there, Sayshi, I'm June,

I thought this was lovely. I have a soft spot in my heart for poems about family, and poems like this remind me to be so grateful for what I have.

Throughout this poem, I appreciated that your rhyme scheme didn't force you to use words that broke the theme of the poem. However, read this aloud! See how the lines are of different lengths and the words don't quite "match" up because of variations in how far apart they are. Remember to keep an eye on maintaining an even or somewhat even line length.

On the whole, I thought it was a sweet poem. Thumbs up to you,

June

Hello! Welcome to YWS!

I liked this a lot. Lot of emotion in it,which I really liked.

I look up for my guidance,
for looking down is surely a scornful thing to do (capital f)
There above me,
is you (full stop)(capital I)

Great first stanza.

My idol,
my guide
A wonderful creature
who counts the many times I have cried

Full stop at end. Capitals, commas.

Giants aren’t always gentle,
for you it is different
It’s one thing to be caring,
and another to be considerate

Lovely, great emotion. Capitals, commas and full stops,

You are both,
there for the entire ride
Not to enjoy the show,
but to be by my side

Okay, I really, really like this. There are some things to be worked on though.
The punctuation is all over the place, mainly.
"for looking down is surely a scornful thing to do"- Should be a period here.

"My idol,
my guide
A wonderful creature"- either a period on the second line,or a comma preceding a lowercase 'a'.

"Giants aren’t always gentle,
for you it is different" -a semi-colon would fit more nicely than the comma, or make it a new sentence.

"and another to be considerate"- again, period.

"there for the entire ride" And here.

"but to be by my side" Here as well.

Now, I love the poem itself. I think it flows nicely and paints a good picture of what you're trying to say. Just watch the end marks and you'll do fine. Keep writing!

Thanks! I appreciate it!

Okay let me just get this negativity out of the way, your rhyming scheme was not constant and your punctuation was a little off (coammas, periods, and capitalization misplaced or not used). Some people will write like this

blah blah blah,
blah blah blah,

etc. and then when they have written all their stanza's they will put a period at the very very end of the very last stanza's. Other people just have each line in the stanza as a sentence or each satnza as a sentence. All depends on how you want the poem to flow and what your writing style is. I gind I alternate between styles depending on what emotions I want to convey to the reader.
You should capitalize the first line after you hit enter in every stanza eg:
Hi,
I,
Am,
Awesome.

I don't think the rhyme scheme is a big deal really cause this was an awesome poem, I just wanted to bring it to your attention for future refrence and to help better you as a writer. My motto is that tons of praise and no critisisim will not make you a better writer, also to much negativity will hurt your confidence soooooooo balence and....

Oh that was hard to say cause I loved this poem so much! Super sweet you wrote it for your dad awwwwww! I really admire that ;)
You have the qualities of a fine writer going here and if you get the mechanics down pat then you will be good to go! I just over all LOVED your word choice and how you incorperated it into the lines of your poem! Please keep writing and chasing your dreams!

Thank you so much! haha. Yeah, I noticed that my commas were wayyyy off, but I wasn't too worried about that. Thanks a lot again, I will definitely use your advice in the future.
