Broken Heart's Lament

In Poetry

Sometimes a broken heart
Forgets how to mend
And comes back together.
Wrong.

Hard or cold or made of stone,
Warped, twisted, horrid,
Cruel, detached, misshapen.
Afraid.

Afraid of what? Afraid of life?
Afraid of love, that brought it low,
Afraid to be broken once more?
Hatred.

Some say it is better
To have loved and lost
Than never to have loved at all.
Lies.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

But other times, the heart is stronger
A light shines on it
During its distress.
Hope.

Staunches the bleeding, quiets the crying,
Consoles the inconsolable,
Offers relief that is a blessing.
Compassion.

Life rushes back in, callous,
To eat the heart up again.
But they are ready and braced.
Strong.

No one can break its will
No matter how they may try
Because has a friend:
Love

Though it can be cruel,
Twisting the knife,
Insult to Injury,
Peresevere.

It can be a balm
It can change lives
For better or for worse.
Affection.

And when the darkness closes in
And life has relented,
Be at peace with it.
Sleep.

Ladcat sometimes I hate you. You introduced me to YWS yet never told me you wrote things like this. As your sister I would love to know things like this. I thought it was beautiful and I will never say this to your face.

Good to know.

Thanks so much guys! I didn't expect such great feedback for a poem that I hardly even thought about! I'll be sure to write more.

like everyone said before me, your poem is very and i mean VERY relatable.
Anyway, it was quite well written and the grammar was good. Also you did well in making the whole work rotate around the main topic. So, loved it and hope you continue writing relatable poems . GOODJOB

Many people will be able to relate to what you have written, I personally think you did a great job and it is a poem with so much but tells it quite strightforward as well. I enjoy your style.

This is so good. The way you worded it, making it just vague enough that anybody can relate to what you said. It really makes you think. Well written.

I think this is totally relatable. It was for the most part very well written and inspiring. Other than that grammatical error that rwalgren pointed out it was really good. Great job!

I'm not very good at poetry but I think this is pretty good. It's very relatable the entire first half is my friend and the best poems are the ones that relate to people's everyday lives or inspire them. one critic: "Because has a friend:" I don't know if you meant to do that because it doesn't really make sense shouldn't "it" go in there

whoops i did seem to make a typo there. i type very fast and I whipped that up in a few minutes for lack of anything better to do. I'll fix that.
