Thank you all for your input! Since I'm currently shopping this story around at different literary magazines, I thought it prudent to remove it from this site. I hope you guys will someday get to see it in print!

Hi gyrfalcon! I'm returning the favor, like you asked of me.
I've actually read over this story before. I didn't critique it because I really do not find anything wrong with it, and I have never read the Tempest, though I know enough about it to assume that this is backstory. It's a great story in its own right, though, which I like. I like being able to pick up something and appreciate it, then go to what it connects to, see the connections, and be able to appreciate it even more.
But, like I said, this is a great story. Everything is woven together very well. I'm sorry I can't find anything to pick at, it makes me feel bad that you were able to help me so much and I can't give you that same aid.
Great job, and good luck.

Hi, Gyr!
There’s a bit too much information here: her midsection, her noise, her dress, her face, her pain. It’s too much too soon.
While I do get this, and it’s kind of funny, I think it could be more coherent.
*blench* Um, ew.
“Thrust” makes it sound very sudden and all-at-once, and I’m not sure if it’s like that? I don’t know, it may be.
Boneless is rather a weird word to use. Why not “exhausted” or “she collapsed back”?
LOL.
Coo, wasn’t expecting that. And OMIE Doctor Who moment!!!!
Love the use of “dribbled”. : )
“Potent wrath” is a bit too flowery. “In sudden anger” would work, imho.
O_O
I don’t know whether it’s Yank spelling, but my spellchecker says that should be “equalled”.

I did really, really enjoy this. Like Puck, Ariel is awesome. Do I detect a few Tannar influences?
I really like the characterisation of Caliban and Sycorax (omie, Doctor Who), especially young Caliban. 'scute. ^_^ Ariel's growing awareness, his relationship with the two and the conflict all makes it really enjoyable. *stars*
