The Truth Behind Cartoons

A/N I apologize in advance for the destruction of your childhood. Also apologize with the lower case I's like always. 

Now have you every known how in all cartoons that I've seen so far have had parents that were just terrible. Now why is this? Why do they paint parents in bad lights in cartoons and how do the studios do this allow me to shed some light onto this subject if you are not yet aware.

Example One:

Scooby Doo is by far my all time favorite cartoon that follows a group of friends and a great Dane that solves mystery's together. Now, a normal parent would ask why your always hang out with rich kids, talk to your talking dog, see monsters wherever you go, and lastly is always Hungary. The fact of the manner is that the gang are on drugs from having an increase appetite, and seeing hallucinogens there probably  on weed.  Not only that, but the only moments you see the parents are when daffny's parents were forced to meet up with her at a gathering to tie in the loving family angle that is usually associated. What can be inferred that the parents are either always away on work and repay their children love and the feelings left with materialistic items for them with little rules to go off of.  The reason we can infer this is their lack of audience in these cartoons, and the few times you see them they are bustling to their jobs or else where leaving the gang to their own devices. ( After consideration I decided that the reasons for the rich kids is not a valid point and will be strike from the mention later on)

Example Two:

Victorious. This in my opinion is the one of the best to show the parents inactive behavior. For those who have not seen this cartoon, It is about a teen named Tory Vega and other friends on their goal on becoming pop stars, singers, artist, dancers, etc. And their life in Hollywood arts. Now in one episode in particular we see the diameter between mother and daughter. Now, keep in mind the trouble Tory comes for advice for is that a girl is stalking her, causing her to never feel safe, and needs someone that will just understand. Now as she tells her about her plights, her mother is too entrance with texting her what must be inferred to be her love affair with her husbands partner Gary. Now, when tory sees this she gets upset and ask for help. which then reluctantly her mother accepts to help in someway and calls Gary to watch over tory. ( on a side note to support the claim of the affair in the show it hints by having the mother say he is handsome and then later on having Gary say she is a very special women, and he sent her his best.) This is the reaction toward the favorite child of the two sisters. As an earlier episodes shows the relationship between Trina and her father. One thing he tells tory is, " if Trina ask i'm not here okay" and then departs into the garage. Or on another occasion when she looses her Wisdom teeth and is in pain both parents up and leave rather than be there to help there oldest daughter. It seems that Trina is written off in the family by her parents. 

Example Three:

I could go through every single cartoon in the world with these examples but I believe I will stop at a classic. Charlie brown. Now in this classic cartoon that in itself is timeless all adults are always out of shot and whenever they talk its always as " Wah, Wah, Wah". Now this particular cartoon could be taken both ways so I will give the benefit of the doubt and give the two sides.  

One way could be that the children have no respect for authorities and the show sticks to the thoughts of the children tuning out their parents advice. Now this would take on the effects that charlie brown dose deflect parents in good light, and then the bad light on the children for not listening to their elders. The biggest example to go with this proof would be the Wah, Wah, Wah that comes from the adults. Usually in their head this is what is associated when an adult talks, but again not always. 

The other way, is their un-involvement in the lives of their children, beside charlie brown's parents the others are never around. They allow the children to run a muck on their everyday lives. An example, Linus is the little boy that always carries around his blue baby blanket. On the Halloween special he stays in the pumpkin patch way past midnight. Inferring that he is around 10 or even 9 a typical parent would say no or even yes you may but we or a sibling must accompany you, you may not be alone. 

Now why do cartoons do this? 

Well there's two reasons I believe on why this happens.

One reason: Each cartoon in a way shows the main charterers growing up, discovering more about themselves and gaining responsibility. And it's much quicker to see this progression as a character and a person or animal as a whole if the parents are not around forcing the character to grow up in a way. This reason can be fitted in almost all cartoons and I believe is the bets bet for this answer.

Reason Two:

We don't live in a perfect world with perfect families the fact is almost half of all families will split, be divorce, or have something traumatic happen that people need to deal with. I believe another way is to connect better with their audiences. Those who this is happening and they can reach out if they can not anywhere else and know that everything will be okay. We as humans Must need to feel safe in order to excel and if that is connecting with a favorite cartoon character then so be it.
