Write! Something!
By Ekari Mbvundula

Forget the excuses
You know they're all useless
Stop over thinking
Stop over researching
Stop analysing in your mind's eye the story that does not yet exist.
Write!
Stop thinking about not having the time
Just write.
Don’t ask "will it be good" or "will they like it"
 Just write.
Don’t compare your work to the past great weavers of the written word
Just write.
Trust that the words you put down will stand in their own right
Accept that draft #1 will not be even close to perfect
Great works are merely great edits.
How can you edit what you have not written?
So.
Write, right now.
Write now.
Write.

First of all i don't really know much about poetry, but I'll try to make myself understood. :D

I really liked your poem, and just as so many other people on this website this is highly relatable to me and easy to understand. As i said i don't know much about poetry, so in truth i do not know what else to say. I can give you no sound advice to improve your poetry. No guidelines or intellectual ways to improve your writing. All i can say is:

I will take your advice, and WRITE!

Hey! IamTraunt here to review this work... that was written in 2012!

Okay... This will seem really weird reviewing this, but don't worry - I reviewed something that was posted in 2008. Yes, 2008.

I really enjoyed reading this. I think a lot of writers can relate to this. I mean, I know John Green and Veronica Ross didn't have there first drafts published - in fact, Veronica's fourth attempt was the one to be accepted. Isn't that enough evidence? You really did put across that writing isn't all about research, I mean, Stephen King is a Panster (which means writes as he goes along as you know), so instead of taking forever trying to piece every single bit together, your poem is telling us to dive in head first. You tell us to not think to much about it as well, which is good advice, because over thinking things can be extremely stressful and we usually muck things up when we do so. You give great advice in this lovely piece, not only is every word powerful and important, but it is great guidance and very helpful. Should we take your advice, we shall succeed.
Like emilybrodo said, your poem flowed well, it wasn't choppy, it kept a constant theme. I liked the use of enjambment in this poem to show the ongoing of precious, wasted time. I like how you put an extra full stop at the end to emphasize how the time wasted has come to a stop and then the writing begins.

Great work! (Wow. 2012.)
See you soon ;)

My first thoughts were that this was me, and it is. We tend to procrastinate with our worries and concerns buzzing around our heads. Yet we have to remember that what we write is never permanent, we can always come back and edit.

Anyway, on to the review. :)
Your flow I thought was pretty good, and you started off rhyming but that kind of died which is always sad because you know the end of a life just is. Although in the death of that rhyming a new sort of writing was born. Ok now it seems I am sounding quite dramatic with this.
Just be careful not to switch around too much. Though, I found that the different poetic devices that you had in this poem made it more interesting and gave it characters.
It appears that you may have a writer's block or you're just brilliant at procrastinating and basically you've come up with a poem that can relate to any writer, which is awesome.
When I read this poem I smiled, because over all, it's just so true.
In conclusion, I go beyond liking this poem and I think many people would enjoy this poem no matter who they were.
Sorry for the possibly highly crappy review. From Em. :)

My loooooong overdue reply (I have reasons, but they smell suspiciously like excuses...)

Thank you for your review! Poetry has always been something that hits me from time to time like a lightening bolt, then it's over. So yes I am an amateur, and tend to creep back towards my security blanket, prose. I'm glad that you can relate though! This poem served as a way to get me back into writing and forget this "writer's block" myth. I can only hope it helps someone else to ignore their writing hurdles (yes, don't overcome them, just ignore them) that are usually mere constructs in their own minds.

(note how the end of the poem is shaped like the tip of a pen...)

Merry Christmas!
