It’d been a long time coming, but she thought that maybe she finally made it. Maybe she could finally just… dive into it—everything—with him. She thought that maybe they could do this. Maybe she could let him in.
She was finally confident and strong enough to stand proudly on her own two feet. Maybe now she could allow someone to stand along side her without running the risk of turning him into a crutch, or toppling the both of them over.
And so here they were, sitting down on a park bench after a long night’s walk through the city. He’d gotten them lost after they left the skating rink. Apparently, the bus they boarded was going west when home was east. She normally would’ve been irritated, especially in his company, but not tonight. Despite the fifty-degree chill and the eerie quiet of the night, she’d enjoyed herself today, oddly enough, and this very moment included.
But now he was going off about giraffes or something like that, and it’d been about twenty minutes since she last paid enough attention to his monologue to make sense of it. Wasn’t he last talking about Gatorade? Where’d this talk about giraffes come from?
She had something to say—or do—and she had to get it out before she chickened out. So, she turned to him squarely, determination buzzing through her.
“Davis,” she said, and he stopped midsentence at the nearly cutting tone of her voice. Trepidation was palpable in his gaze, and she couldn’t help but smile with amusement.
He raised an eyebrow of curiosity.
“Uh, is there something wrong?”
She sighed and glanced over his shoulder before completely dropping her eyes to her gloved hands. Nervousness suddenly washed over her, and she wasn’t sure she wanted to do this. But no—
She did want to do this. She wanted this—everything—with him, for him.
And she had to tell him.
So, with tentative confidence, but a full heart, she looked up again to meet his concern-turned gaze with a soft smile. Wow, he was cute with that gray beanie on. It mussed his hair so that the parts that managed to stick out seemed to be reaching for the sky like a newborn baby reaching for its mother.
Maybe saying everything was going to be a little more difficult than she thought.
“Just… hmmm. I have an idea. Close your eyes.”
He eyed her skeptically, and she giggled. She actually giggled.
“Come on, trust me.” She grinned, and he relented with a sigh. But as determined as she was, she was admittedly a little nervous. If he wasn’t looking at her, she could do this. Hopefully.
“Fine. But I swear, if this is another prank, Ter’, I swear you’re going to regret it.”
She rolled her eyes; his mouth didn’t seem to have an off switch.
Oh. His mouth. She smiled. That was somewhere to start.
Before she could doubt herself, she slowly leaned in until she was about an inch away from his face. She paused as she noticed him lick his lips in that way he usually did before continuing a long thought.
But she didn’t want his words right now.
“Dave, shut up, will you?” she murmured.
With lips quirked up into a faint smile, she touched her mouth to his. His eyes instantly shot open, and he pulled back in shock. But she wasn’t hurt because what she saw on his face was mere disbelief, which she expected. There wasn’t any remorse or awkwardness or distaste. He just simply didn’t expect that from her—not now and not any time soon.
Within moments though, he was shrugging off the shock, and his foreign lips were coming back to flirt with hers. He’d come to her with insistence, his chocolate-tasting tongue gliding over the seam of her lips, asking for entrance, she thought. She opened for him, but he never pushed any further. His hand against her neck was gentle and almost hesitant in a way that let her know that she was so much more adored than lusted after. He kept them light and easy and fun. He always wanted to let her know that he respected her, and right now that was irritating. She wanted him to kiss her.
Although, in spite of that immediate want, she loved that he was giving her a reminder to take it slow, make this last and have their lips become better acquainted before anything else.
Her own hand rose and found purchase at the nape of his neck, her fingers instinctively playing with the short hairs at the back of his head. Her other hand hung onto his shoulder blade, keeping him there. She couldn’t help but smile, and she felt his lips lift into one as well. Their foreheads kissed and they opened their eyes to one another.
They looked like smitten dorks, but she couldn’t bring herself to care.
She was finally here. She was sure of what she wanted, and she was finally here to take it.
She had it, him—them.
Heck, she’d had it since the moment he said he’d “always stay”—despite her adamant objections. All he’d ever wanted to was to be in her life.
“Teresa, are you sure about this?” Davis asked, his brown eyes going from hazy with want to this old look of trepidation.
“Yeah,” she answered. “I’m sure.”
Fin.
A/N: Hello all! I hope you enjoyed that horribly short drabble. It's a rather personal one-shot that just hit me, and I had to get it out before it was gone. It personally fulfills all that I had in mind for it. Feel free to request more. That's kind of how I'd know if it's worth continuing (or similarly, giving a back story to).
Anyway. Please feel free to review and critique it! I have to admit, I didn't beta it at full capacity, so I wouldn't be surprised if someone tears it to shreds in a review. Haha
All kinds of feedback is more than welcome.

Your comment was posted, but it wasn’t long enough to count as a review. Reviews need about four complete sentences (at least 250 characters). Try writing another review that explains your thoughts in more detail — the author will appreciate it, and you’ll earn points for it.
It was really easy to read (now don't take that the wrong way). What I mean is, that your sentence structure and your choice of words, successfully gently guided the reader through your piece. I also found the piece extremely personal, as I have a friend that could really identify with some of Teresa's uncertainty.
You are talented, keep it up!
O, my Jonas, you didn't "beta it at full capacity"?!? I love this! Your writing is beautiful! I'd love to hear a back story! I only saw 2 things.
keep writing it!
1 . Instead of "lift into one as well" I'd say lift into a smile as well...it just sounds better to me.
And
2. Instead of "they opened their eyes to one another" I would just say they opened their eyes.
Anyways I love this.
Aww this is SO cute an i absolutely love it!
Keep up the good work, and I'd really love to read the expanded version of this.
