A Letter

A letter to my dearest friend,
I got the news today
That life’s most fierce and crushing blow
Has dared to come your way.

I grieve to think of what you’ve lost,
Of what you never will regain.
I know you think that life is over
Since it will never be the same.

I guess I can't say anything;
I’ve never been through something so hard.
But I want to say more than “Sorry,”
It doesn’t fix what has been marred.

I offer you perspective,
Or, at least what I see.
And when I’m finished writing this,
I hope you won't hate me.

I know from where you’re standing,
The road seems long and hard,
But I know that you’ll make it
Because I know who you are.

I know the things that make you tick,
What makes you laugh or cry,
What buttons I should never push,
What makes you wonder why.

I know about the broken past
You try so hard to hide.
I know the subtle signs you’re brooding,
That you’re deeply hurt inside.

The inside jokes built over time,
The things only we know,
The stories that you like to tell,
The emotions you like to show.

I say all that to get to this,
I know that you are strong,
And even though you’re knocked down now
You won't stay down for long.

And so, my dearest, closest friend,
Remember this thought from me,
When people ask me if you’re okay,
I respond only, “She will be.”

Wow. Wow. I really love this poem; your rhyme scheme is fantastic, and your wording seems to be almost perfect. I love how encouraging this is. I truly hope your friend gets better, and I'm sure this poem helped.
"I grieve to think of what you’ve lost,/Of what you never will regain./I know you think that life is over/Since it will never be the same." I love this line the best. There's such a strong message here, and your rhyme scheme is impeccable.
If anything, I would say there are a couple places where you could reword things to make this poem flow a little bit better. Simply re-read the poem, and I'm sure you'll find them.
Thank you so much for writing this beautiful poem!

i have to say, i don't normally attract to a poem of this genre, but i was pleasantly surprised. the voice of the poem, presumably you, reveals a lot of emotions from themselves as you speak about your friend. I'm glad that you didn't just go through what they had been through in an attempt at making it interesting and instead focused all on them. a friend of mine is in a similar low moment in their life at the moment and for that reason i feel i managed to engage with this poem a lot more. the last stanza for me is very hard-hitting and that can be very hard to do without coming across as cliche, which you do not. the idea of other people questioning you is a very good idea and your short reply is powerful. good poem and best wishes to you and your friend.

Glad you liked it! And thank you

Hey it's Neverland here to review this piece!!
I really liked the way you wrote a piece for your friend when they're going through a tough time. It's such a thoughtful idea, I love it. Even though it's about a serious, emotional, matter.

I love the way you ended it, I loved the whole thing!! It's just so, so, so.... AMAZING!!!!

I'm so sorry that your friend isn't the best at the moment and I hope she gets better with whatever it is that has happened. I can tell from this that she will, that someone will be there for her, to help her with everything.

I cant really find fault with this, so much emotion, lovely language (oh alliteration right there), and just so amazing!!!!

Good luck with everything and hope all goes well!!!
~Neverland.

Thanks!! And lol at the alliteration :)

Didn't even mean it!!

I'm not the best at reviewing poetry, but I enjoyed this so much, that I'll see what I can do. The speaker obviously cares very much for this girl that is hurt for whatever reason and he wants to try to ameliorate the situation. I have a deep appreciation for atmospheric work and I felt that this was very atmospheric. I was able to feel the pain of the girl and the concern of the speaker. There's not much to critique upon in this piece, so all I want to say is, great job. I look forward to your next post.
