Chapter 3

I glance over at the boy who had just about knocked me over in slight interest. He looks, honestly, bad. Red, puffy eyes told of something hurtful and with sudden realization I felt angry over whoever had done this to him. Frightened at this sudden emotion I glance down at my hands, remembering Father's harsh words with just bare control over the tears threatening to fall. Just as I start to close my eyes, a loud crash jerks me out and to my feet, face full of terror.

There, at the door was a small Faerie girl who blushes in guilt upon  Ragnork's intense glare. I glance down at the floor to spot the broken bowl at the child's feet and the expensive looking mirror she held reverently in her hands. Amber eyes flicker to the elder's own in terror and I watch with faint sympathy as Ragnork growls furiously.

"Be glad it wasn't the mirror, girl. Your parents will be made aware of this...incident."

The poor girl almost burst into tears at this but she remains in control as she points a trembling hand at the broken bowl, successfully mending it before setting it and the mirror down on his desk. She looks back once more at him in respect before fleeing as fast as her tiny legs could take her.

Somewhat uneasy, I eye the two items with distinct distrust and to my relief the other four were doing so as well. The only other girl nearly jumps when I move to inspect them, eyes watching my every movement with terror filled orbs.

"What do you mean adopted?" One of the boys growl, glaring heatedly at the Faerie who merely glances up before going back to whatever he was doing to the mirror.

"Does it have to do with why there's a mirror and blood heritage test you're holding?" The other girl whispers, eying the mirror with distrust and I agreed with her...why was that mirror there?

"The mirror is used to show you what the strong glamor is hiding. If you don't wish to see then take the blood test, you'll be surprised what you've been denied." Ragnork smirks as I tilt my head before deciding almost offhandedly that I wanted to know what I was.

"Very well." I bravely step forward, ignoring the shocked faces behind me as I take the dagger from the Faerie.

A swift swipe of the blade and I allow the required ten drops for both the heritage and inheritance to be drawn up. The others just watch with nervous glances between me and Ragnork, who raises a delicate eyebrow upon the noting the words forming.

My fingers tremble violently. Here was the proof that my parents weren't who I had believed for the past thirteen years of my life. Face darkening with rage I glance at the mirror, snarling at the Faerie without remorse, "How does the mirror work, Ragnork?"

He taps the mirror and as it grows taller I take a close look at the rubies embedded in its outer frame with amazement. Whoever this belonged to it was very wealthy.

I eye the mirror in front of me in disbelief. How could this thing, this mere mirror be able to show me what thirteen years of lies could not? I scoff at the idea but I have to concede to even myself I was curious. I want  what I had been and possibly what I wanted to be again. But could I? Could I really toss away what I believed was me? Even if it's a lie?

I ignore the others there to take in the mirror with an air of distrust. Its ruby encrusted frame twinkles deceivingly at all of us. The glass looks unspectacular and with a deep sigh I face it.

The mirror really did show the truth. My once vibrant blue eyes had become a deep violet hue. Instead of untamable blond hair that had been to my shoulders the reflection had beautiful long ebony hair and it was as straight as a board, much to my relief. The pale skin hadn't changed, if anything it got paler. The other me smiles brightfully while waving a hand. Stepping closer I nearly faint at the sight of dark red wings that steal my breath.

Before I could focus much more the reflection shifts into an almost exact copy only this time the eyes were a flashing amber that strikes fear and confusion in me. On it's back were a black and white pair of wings, striking even more terror but also joy. Why did I have two reflections?! Ironic, honestly, I could never be normal it seems and with a chuckle I smile thinly back at it while it howls to the moon while the other stands to the side murmuring, "Vates Ostende, me."

My vision blurs as I step back, blearily. I crumble to the floor as my weak legs collapse underneath my body. Dimly I hear Ragnork trying to pry me out of the daze but I could only stare into the wall, not there as I watch with faint horror at the images playing out before me.

"Do you want to find out the secret?" A little boy whispers, brown eyes spitting fire at me as I blink, confused.

"What secret?" I murmur, trying to sit while the boy merely pulls out a knife with a sadistic smile.

"You are Vates, yet you are Yami. The wheels have start to turn and soon the enemies will find you and forever shall you lose, girl." He smirks with glowing silver eyes before pouncing.

I jerk back, heart pounding as the reflections smile and wave exuberantly in goodbye. Faintly I find myself sitting down, head throbbing and ever more certain I wanted these...disguises off!

I watch with vivid scrutiny as the boy. Damon, steps up. He keeps one eye on me almost as if I would fall apart just breathing and oddly I felt touched by his worry. A deep flush paints my cheeks when I smile shyly back and nod towards the mirror. I wanted to see, to be certain that he was the boy from my dreams.

But before he could move Ragnork places a vial before me, interrupting my concentration on Damon's reflection. The murky blue potion instantly told me it was a sleep potion mixed with a calming syrup. Not willing to go against the Faerie who had so graciously allowed all of us to find ourselves I down the vial in one gulp and within seconds found myself slipping into a peaceful slumber.

Wow! So far I've read all of the chapters in this book and I must say, they're better then plenty of books I have read. Can you PM me whe you update again? I would highly appreciate it.

You have to write the book that wants to be written. And if the book will be too difficult for grown-ups, then you write it for children.
