Mind: Why do you sit by the window, and watch the rain drops fall?
Heart: I like to watch the water. It reminds me of my tears.
Mind: Why would you want reminded? That seems like a terrible thought.
Heart: I like to think of their meanings. I like to think of their worth.
Mind: Why do you sit by the window, and reminisce' days gone by?
Heart: I like to relight the kindle of dreams I never reached.
Mind: Why would you ponder the broken? Why would you revive the dark?
Heart: Because it reminds me of who I was. And all that I can be.
Mind: Why do you sit by the window, and slowly touch your scars?
Heart: I like to remember the bad days. Days when I fell apart.
Mind: Why would you hold on to nightmares? Do you not remember the pain?
Heart: I remember perfectly. And that's why I hold on.
Heart: When tears were shed, I, bloody, red, stayed faithful thick and thin. The memories and stormy seas were not enough to win.
The darkest days, when I would break, and slowly fade away, were how I learned to pace myself and take a breath to pray.
The scars remind me of my past, when things were far from finest. But as I bled, and my blood, shed, I put my past behind us.
Behind myself, and others too, it drifted far away. And then at last, I had a chance, to give myself a break.
A gift of life, now given twice, the old self and the new. Acceptance, grace, a lot of faith, gave brand new point of view.
My scars and bruises, ugly, they may or may not be, I see them not as shameful, but mark of victory.
A history of warrior, a mystery of light, each flaw you see before you, each fault, a story lies.
All tears are shed for reasons, all scars are made from cause. Each moment made me stronger. They're beautiful, not flaws!
So now I sit by the window, and watch the rain fall soft-
Mind: Would you mind... if I joined you?
Heart: Why no... not at all.

Your comment was posted, but it wasn’t long enough to count as a review. Reviews need about four complete sentences (at least 250 characters). Try writing another review that explains your thoughts in more detail — the author will appreciate it, and you’ll earn points for it.
I would give anything to review this--unfortunately I can't as I find no faults! Let's just say I understand completely also. Just the way you captured the subject, I've read so many about this sort of thing, but you made what others, in spots, muddled, clear and distinct! I beg you to write more!
I love the conversation between two inanimate (well, maybe not inanimate) things (well, maybe not things haha.) It's cool how you make them speak to each other, and make it sound so real. This piece is totally relatable and not only is it meaningful, but it also has a sense of relaxing solemnity. Finally, I love the ending. It's a fantastic way to commence the dialogue in a satisfying way.
My only recommendation is to edit it a bit more! I noticed one error (if it wasn't on purpose) just in the first read. The third line appears to be missing a word.
Besides that minor detail, LOVE this piece! Great work!
This is amazing. I really like the dynamic between common sense (the mind) and the irrational/emotional parts of a disturbed induvidual's mind.
This poem flowed so naturally. I commend you for the rhythm. The Q & A format gives a kind of rise and fall movement, like the swell and ebb of voices.
"When tears were shed, I, bloody, red, stayed faithful thick and thin. The memories and stormy seas were not enough to win."
The first sentence is passive, so try and make it active. I don't understand the second part of the line, since it doesn't seem relevant to the poem except to rhyme. What I understand is that Heart cried, there was blood, and it seems like it's waiting for someone.
"The darkest days, when I would break, and slowly fade away [Okay, so there's 'slowly fade away'. I understand that many elements could be literal or metaphorical, so I can interpret it how I want.], were how [don't you mean when?] I learned to pace myself and take a breath to pray."
"The scars remind me of my past, when things were far from finest [I think you mean 'fine']. But as I bled, and my blood, shed [this part is redundant], I put my past behind us [is Heart talking about itself and Mind, or the person and someone else?]."
"Behind myself, and others too [why would it include others?], it drifted far away [what drifted away? the past?]. And then at last, I had a chance, to give myself a break."
For the first sentence, I think that if you switched the order of the clauses, it would make more sense. That would, however, disrupt the flow. I find that there are some more passive sentences which you can fix. Once again, that would disrupt the flow.
"A gift of life, now given twice [oh, a second chance, starting over], the old self and the new. Acceptance, grace, a lot of faith, gave brand new point of view [where did the acceptance, grace, and faith come from? self-made or helped by family and friends?]."
"My scars and bruises, ugly, they may or may not be [why is there indecision?], I see them not as shameful, but [as] mark[s] of victory."
"A history of warrior, a mystery of light [is this placed here just to rhyme?], each flaw you see before you, each fault, a story lies."
This is the weakest line, in my opinion.
It's many phrases strung together. Filler, sort of. 'Each flaw you see before you, each fault, a story lies.' Yeah, I understand what you meant, but please make it clearer. If you take out 'each fault', it goes like this: 'each flaw you see before you, a story lies'. Why don't you pair up 'each flaw and fault' or put a preposition in there? 'Behind each flaw, underneath each fault, etc.'
I don't understand what 'a history of warrior' is. Do you mean 'the history of warriors'? The same goes for 'a mystery of light'. I think it means one of the mysteries of light. I understand how the history of warriors can lie in their scars, but what does light have to do with it? I think this line could be clarified somewhat by placing 'the history, the mystery' at the end.
"All tears are shed for reasons, all scars are made from cause. Each moment made me stronger. They're beautiful, not flaws! [This sentence could be taken as a fond declaration or defensive. Take out the exclamation point and 'not flaws', and you can find a different rhyme for this line besides cause and flaws.]"
Perhaps you should clarify why it's good that tears are shed for reasons. Are the reasons good? Can you take the results and make them good?
'All scars are made from cause' is gibberish to me. Could you clarify this?
"So now I sit by the window, and watch the rain fall soft-
Mind: Would you mind... if I joined you?
Heart: Why no... not at all."
I don't have objections to this ending, except that the sound is off. This is probably due to my own preferences, so don't take this to heart.
'So now I sit by the window, and watch the rain fall soft-
Mind: Would you mind if I joined you?
Heart: ...Why no. Not at all.'
It's just how I think. Mind interrupts in a rush, and Heart is either startled or pauses to think it over.
There's a story in the second half of this poem, but it's not clear enough. I have to re-read each line before moving on to try and figure out what it means. In short, it's quite vague.
A lot of lines could be shortened, clarified, or cut out. Maybe you can divide each line into two, because the length and all of the commas slow me down.
The first half is quite nice, and so is the ending. My problems with this piece center around Heart's big part, but other than that, it's quiet and introspective, even with the mentions of blood. Good job.
I like the end.
Keep writing!
Cheers!
Wow, this was amazing! Literally. The way you've formatted and written this is not only something I've never seen, but it flows so well.
The third to last stanza is really, really, really long and sort of stops that flow. It turns into more of a explanation/story. To be honest, I just skipped over most of it so I wasn't derailed from the brilliance of the rest of the poem.
You don't have a lot of "glorious" explanations or descriptions in here, but I think that actually is a good thing, as it would take away from the beauty and simplicity of the poem itself. This whole Q and A thing just keeps blowing my mind, which is hard to do.
I also love this sort of "aaaaaaaahhhhhhhh" feeling that I get, like I'm listening to a brook tinkle on by. It really was worth the read, and all except for the long stanza, I think this is great!
Thank you SheaKay!
......
My mind is blown by the perfection.
*does the little mind-blow thingy from the AT&T commercial*
Let's see if I can write a review that's not all glowing praise, there's got to be some constructive critisicm I can give... Hmm. Heh? No, that's good. Umm..... Er- Aha! No, wait... Yeah no, I got nothin'. If I were you, I would find some way to turn this into poetry format. I'm not sure how I would do that (were I you). If you switch it to poetry format, you can submit it to a poetry contest, and probably win big bucks. It really is ingeneous, putting a twist and an alternate perspective on the old cliché. It's fresh and new, yet at the same time stirring... Makes me wish I had a rainy day to go look out the window at. Unfortunately it's done nothing but snow all gosh darn winter, so I'm kinda screwed there...
I didn't mean to write a review that's all praise, those tend to be kinda useless, but what can I say? There's not even a single typo! Keep writing, my freind, and my mind will continue to be blown.
This is beautiful. Unique, poetic, and beautiful. It deserves to be a featured work, really. Thank you for making this.
Thank you so much! ^_^
