*I was bored, so I jotted this down, unedited. Bleh.
"Did it make you feel like a man, killing that little boy?" Solange was trembling, but not in fear or tension. She was trembling in pure fury, her chin raised defiantly, staring hard at Ash. She supposed she should be scared, yelling at a man with no qualms about killing and a loaded gun, but she was beyond fear now. He'd killed that boy, and for what reason?
"It wasn't a little boy. It was an adult, and one that deserved to die at that." Ash protested, though he looked hurt by her anger. That only made Solange angrier. How dare he feel hurt? She had every right to feel angry, and he had no right to feel anything at all. She'd thought she could change him, that maybe he could actually have a heart. She'd obviously been wrong. And that "adult" had been an eighteen-year-old boy with his entire life ahead of him, and how had he deserved to die?
"Enough, Ash." Solange said, doubling her fists. Ash tensed as he sensed something change, and just the look of him becoming wary around her made Solange both delighted and cautious. He could kill her very easily, if she provoked him. "I'm done. You- You're an assassin, and I've tried to help you. But I guess some things just can't change."
"What? Sol, come on. You know I had to do it." Ash stepped towards her. "If I had a choice, don't you think I'd have let him live?"
"No. You're a killer. I'm not. I thought maybe you could be good, but you're still working for them. You will never be good!" Solange's voice was rising, becoming hostile. She glimpsed pain in Ash's stricken blue-gray eyes. She knew what she was saying was mostly true, and if it hurt him, then he should make it not true. But she would still offer him his last chance, after the millions she'd given him. He, even though he was a murderer, had been her friend, and a close friend at that. "Quit working for them, Ash. Prove that you're not completely evil."
Ash took a deep breath. There was a long pause as he tried to think of something to say. "I-I can't."
Solange cut him off before he could ramble off his list of excuses. "Then go. Just go. I don't care where you go, but I never want to see you again!" She could feel tears starting to sting her eyes as she said this. Maybe her father had been right for once. You couldn't change everyone to fit your perfect world. Her world wasn't perfect anymore. Ash had ruined that.
Ash opened his mouth, then shut it again. His eyes were dark with sadness. "Okay Solange." his shoulders slumped. "It's okay, don't cry." This only made the tears pour faster. He still cared about her, even when he hated everyone else in the world. But she couldn't change him. That fact kept coming back to Solange. He stepped forward and brushed her tears away with his thumb. She flinched. Why couldn't he make it simple and just leave? She backed away from him, shaking her head.
"Go where you belong." She choked out. They both knew he had nowhere to belong.
"Okay." Ash turned and walked away, down the moonlit and empty street, without another look back. Solange watched him a moment, then turned as well and headed in the opposite direction. And so each of them went back to their respective places, the assassin and the angel.
