I am done writing!

*Sigh* You scared me for a moment there.

No one is being harsh.... I hope. Just try your best. We're all here to help.

People, I am not really going to quit writing. I am just acting like a know-it-all writer, Pinkie Jackson, my character. I know people tried to help me. Plus, I am a kid who is a good writer, but wants to do better.

Hey, stop being so hard on yourself! I noticed you just joined two days ago. It's okay. Maybe you were just nervous about your character description and the first chapter, and the reviews didnt help. But you have to look at them on a more optimistic side. Everyone here is trying to help one another, we all love being writers, and if not writers, than expressers. Sometimes you have to swim through the criticism. They only want to make your stories better. We all want you to keep writing so you can look back and see how much you've improved. Don't fret, we are all still learning things, even if we've been on here for months. If we didn't respect your work, people would be commenting on how it 'sucks' and is so 'unimaginative'. And that's not true, which is why no body says that.

Don't quit writing. You're only just beginning.

I actually liked this better than your other story! Your other story was just about a seemingly perfect girl who supposedly had trouble in her life... but what sort of trouble, you didn't really let on. So, it was not really gripping to me because I couldn't really relate to someone who was so perfect and whose only problem was having an Englishman for a father.

In this story, you start off with an impassioned cry of frustration, which is immediately much more grabbing. "Oh no!" we readers think, "what is wrong here?" We want to know what is making the narrator so upset! We feel immediately connected to the narrator here... after all, s/he is upset! Everybody can relate to that, and we can also feel sympathy for someone who feels upset. What's more, the narrator tells us little by little what is wrong and shows that she wants to give up. Everybody can relate to that!

So, your hero/ine starts off with very human qualities which makes us pity him/her and hooks us into reading the next bit... will s/he succeed, despite feeling as if s/he is failing?! Will s/he brave his/her way against the hurt feelings and criticisms and get even better than she started off?! I certainly hope so... I've always been a fan of happy endings! As the quote from The Two Towers (Lord of the Rings) goes:

Frodo: I can’t do this, Sam.

Sam: I know. It’s all wrong. By rights we shouldn’t even be here. But we are. It’s like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger, they were.

And sometimes you didn’t want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened?

But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something, even if you were too small to understand why.

But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn’t. They kept going. Because they were holding on to something.

Frodo: What are we holding onto, Sam?

Sam: That there’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo… and it’s worth fighting for.

Hey, I'm a writer, too. I've never posted it on YWS, but I have my own friends who review my work. Sure, some comments get me down but I'm not going to let anyone stop me. Never. It's the willingness to do what YOU want.

I'm not giving you my sympathy or my pity...I'm merely giving you encouragement. See it in this light: YWS was made to have other not only enjoy your work but to help you improve. If somebody says something, then they only want you to improve and see you develop into an even better writer, they're not out to get you. If you love writing stories, then stick with it. It doesn't matter if you feel others aren't in favor of what you write, it all depends on you and how you can become better.

No one can have a person can have a perfect story, and no, I am not trying to be mean, but it's true. That corny saying: There's always room for improvement. It was great to see you contributed to the YWS community and we only want to see more from you and become even better and better by each and every one of us here.

You can't just give up on writing. I understand that you don't want to post, and that's your decision to make, but also understand that your dreams are not worth throwing away. What YOU want isn't up to other, and besides, for the most part, they're only trying to help you. Instead of getting worked up over something so small, think of the bigger picture and learn to not fix your mistakes but make them cooler than before. Dreams require hard work and in order to get there you have to make the right choices and becoming determined. You have potential, you really do. However, you need to elicit that potential and that would need the help from others.

Yes. There are people who are mean, who put their comments impolitely, but sometimes we've all got to look past that and see what they're actually trying to say. Be optimistic.

You don't have to post. You don't have to show. You don't have to tell us the details, but quit writing? That's not worth giving up easily.

Hi Pinkiegirl13, Its Catcha01. I think it horrible that after receiving some reviews that you are quitting writing. The point of a review is to help you improve your writing not to make you quit writing. Things that you may have taken offensive were not intended that way, I promise you. I believe that you should not give up writing because everyone can be a writer. I think that you should take in the constructive criticism from your peers and use it as a motive rather than a deterrent. Just because things may be said cut and dry with no fluff does not mean that the person is telling you that you are a bad writer they are simply pointing out things that should be improved thats all. So please don't quit writing, you'll be the only one being badly affected by such a decision.
