Fake Smiles

Fake Smiles

You all know who I am.

I am the person that always wants to talk.

I am the person that always wants to joke around.

You see me as a happy child.

You think that I have a perfect life.

But I don’t.

No one does.

The truth is that everything is a lie.

Always putting up a fake smile.

No one suspects,

no one notices it.

Always with a joke here and there,

but the reasons behind them, are for the same reasons

I don’t talk about them.

You see me as a clown,

As the person that is never down.

Always happy with a smile.

A fake smile.

You see.

You might think that the reason I do those thing is to make people laugh, but no.

The real reason I do those things is for a cover up.

I feel scared, insecure, alone.

For what has happened in my past should not be talked about.

Everyone has a reason for the way they act.

Mine?

To feel happy,

Even though I am not.

Every morning.

Every night.

A fake smile is my act.

You judge me by saying I only want attention.

But that’s not my intention.

I just want to feel that I can do something good

By making people laugh and goof.

Even though mine is a fake smile,

I know I can make others truly smile.

And in the end that’s what matters.

Hello! Tigerlilly here to review on this excellent review day!

WOW! This reminds me quite a lot of a really close friend of mine. Often times he'll crack terrible jokes and mess around, but deep down he actually has bad depression. Seeing this poem gives me a good look into what he might be feeling at times, so I'll definitely take this to heart. It also shows something that many people can relate to: we all have our masks. In this case, the narrators mask is a smile, to cover up their past and their sadness. But we all have our own masks, and so this is very relatable in a universal sense.

It's incredibly well written as well. I love the way its structured and the wording and the poem overall. It's hard for me to nitpick something so well done. Great job!! Anyways, keep writing. I really hope to see more of your writing in the future!

Hey, great job you've done here. It's very relatable for many of us, I'm sure. I love how you express the loneliness you feel inside, they it way others see you, and how you just wish to make others happy, even when you're not. I think that it's a pretty noble and cool of you to write like that. ;)

Okay, so the one thing that is a little confusing/awkwardly worded is "Always with a joke here and there,/but the reasons behind them, are for the same reasons/I don’t talk about them." I was a little confused when I read this. I think I may kind of understand what you're trying to say, but maybe it would make more sense if it was worded in a slightly different way.

Well, I enjoyed this work. Keep writing, and good luck! :) :D

This is poem describes my entire social life. All the friends I make these days only seem to think that I'm the clown- the weird, awkward, and funny girl. But that's not true. I have way more qualities (good and bad) than what I prefer to show. And therefore I sometimes feel like nobody knows the real me, the real me that is not funny, bright, or nice. I have a feeling you know very well what I'm talking about.

Your poems stand out due their simplicity and reliability. The perfect combination for poems, if you ask me.

Can't wait for your next work, Passionwriter.

Thank you vinnylinny and I understand what you are saying.
I am feeling that way theses past days.

Oh hello mirror.. What? That's not a mirror, it's a poem? Could have fooled me.
