Sorry this chapter was released so late! Just like in the last chapter, feedback is very much welcome and appreciated, even if it's not positive, as long as you tell me why! And this goes for future chapters as well.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ktyra woke up the next morning with her eyelashes weaved together. She squinted from the brightness, before going into the bathroom to get ready for school. While brushing her teeth, she heard a crack of thunder- not from outside, but from in her parents’ room. Other people would have thought this was strange, but this was perfectly normal for Ktyra and her family. She heard the room door opening and her mother coming into the bathroom. She was holding a bucket above her head, and above the bucket was a little storm cloud drizzling water into the bucket. Below it she saw her mother’s annoyed face.
“Woke up late?” Ktyra asked her. Andromeda nodded grumpily. Her curse was that if she woke up late in the morning, a mini storm cloud would appear above her head and rain on her. Until her brain officially woke up, it would keep raining on her. She always had an extra bucket (or two) in her room for emergencies.
“I don’t understand,” Andromeda complained, stepping into the shower and closing the curtain, “You were able to wake yourself up, how does that count as me waking up late?”
Ktyra shrugged. “Sometimes, Mother, I think your curse is just out to get you.”
Andromeda sighed. “I suppose you’re right.” She was behind the shower curtain, collecting and dumping the rainwater from the cloud with her bucket.
After Ktyra was done in the bathroom, she went to her room to change for school. After grabbing her satchel, she went downstairs. The wooden floors creaked as she went down the stairs.
“Sorry Ktyra, it’s still going, you have to walk yourself out,” Andromeda called from inside the bathroom. “Have a good day at school.”
“Thanks!” Ktyra called back. She went to the front door and walked out while locking the door from behind her.
Her house was a short walk from the school, and even faster by bike, so she always biked to school. Sometimes she was a little jealous that her classmates who were further away from school took carriages, but she didn’t mind that much since she liked being outside when it was warm. During the winter when it was icy, her mom would make her take the carriage, but even then, she was a little sad that she could bike to school, as long as there was snow.
Ktyra walked to the shed behind her house, where a padlock was at the door. She took out her keys and opened it, before taking her bike and helmet and wheeling it outside. Like most people’s bikes, it was plain silver, but some more wealthy people had bikes with colors. She fastened on her helmet, sat down on the bike, and started pedaling towards the road. Ktyra’s neighbor, an old man named Mr. Meyers, was sitting on his porch when Ktyra was biking. “Good morning, Ktyra!” he said to her cheerfully.
“Good morning, Mr. Meyers!” Ktyra replied, waving. He always sat on his porch in the mornings when Ktyra went to school, and always greeted her, so it was nice to start the day off cheerfully. This and the beautiful trees were the best parts of her route to her school
The one thing that she did not like about being outside in public was that people always stared at her. Naturally, everyone knew who she was, since she was the only person in the village who was not cursed, so there were always people looking at her when she biked to school. One time, there were two teenage girls who stared at her as they walked past, whispering to each other about her. Another time when she was walking, an old lady had come up to her and said, “You are a very lucky girl,” before closing her eyes, nodding, and walking off.
She got fewer stares as she got older, but people still continued to look at her and point.
Her school was a three-story building with brown bricks and navy blue and light pink walls. (Those were their school colors) It wasn’t tall, but it was wide and took up a decent amount of space. After all, it was one of the only schools in the village.
When she arrived, there were lots of kids walking in with their parents from coming in a carriage. Some, like her, had biked to school as well. One little boy was crying because he didn’t want to go to school and leave his parents, while another teenager had just realized that she had forgotten her cello at home.
Ktyra locked her bike into the bike rack outside and walked in through the double doors at the entrance that was held open by a wooden door stopper. The head of the elementary school, Ms. Crystal, greeted her at the door.
As soon as she got into school, Ktyra started to look for her best friend, Pqlina. She walked quickly in the hallways without running, being greeted by friendly teachers and students along the way. At school, however, she was stared at even more than in the streets.
As usual, Pqlina was in their first class of the day, arithmetic. Pqlina was standing at the teacher’s desk. She had been talking to their teacher, Mr. Schuller, who was sitting at his desk. When Ktyra came into the room, Pqlina looked at the door.
“There you are,” Pqlina exclaimed, “You’re late, where have you been?”
“I come to school at this time every day,” Ktyra smiled, “Haven’t you gotten used to it already?”
“Well, it’s just lonely in the morning without you,” Pqlina said, “C’mon, let’s go on a lap!”
Walking around the school with Pqlina always made Ktyra happy, because people didn’t stare at her as much when she was walking with her, because she had scolded them a couple of times, and it was also just really nice to walk around the school and talk with a friend.
“So what’s new?” Pqlina asked her as they were walking out of the classroom. “Anything exciting happen?”
Ktyra shrugged. “Not really. Although I do have a doctor's appointment today, and apparently there will be a sorcerer there!”
Pqlina gasped. “A sorcerer? What is a sorcerer doing at your doctor’s clinic!”
“I thought the same thing, but my mother won’t tell me anything,” Ktyra explained. “I hope it’s not anything bad.”
“I’m sure it’s nothing,” Pqlina reassured her. “I bet it’s just a check-up just to be safe.”
Suddenly, someone popped out from inside a classroom in front of them and shouted, “BOO!” at them.
At this, Pqlina screamed loudly, before covering her ears. Her curse was that her voice couldn’t go louder than a certain volume, because if it did, then she would hear a loud noise in her ear. Unfortunately, Pqlina was a very jittery and flinchy person, so the slightest scare would make her scream.
Ktyra looked and saw that it was their classmate, Rohwen, who was laughing hysterically, and behind him was his friend, Apollo, who was also laughing.
Ktyra’s face was red with anger. “Great job, genius, how would you like it if I screamed into your ear every time you were loud, which is…let me see…every other minute?!”
“Okay, Little Miss I-Don’t-Have-A-Curse,” Rohwen scoffed, “I’m sure you know all about curses, given that you don’t even have one.”
Ktyra looked around and saw that people were staring at them. “You know what, Rohwen? Why don’t you try being me for a day, if you think I’m so lucky?” Ktyra shouted. “Just remember to count how many times people stare at you!”
“She has no idea,” Apollo whispered to Rohwen, who laughed.
“What’s going on here?” It was the science teacher, Ms. Prinnings.
“Rohwen was activating Pqlina’s curse,” Ktyra told her. Apollo stuck out his tongue at her, and mouthed the word, “Snitch.”
“Is this true?” Ms. Prinnnings asked Rohwen.
“Yes, but it won’t happen again,” Rohwen replied, scowling at Ktyra.
“Rohwen, may I speak to you for a moment?” Ms. Prinnings asked him. “The rest of you, get to class.”
Ktyra, Pqlina, and Apollo started walking in the other direction towards their class.
Once Apollo was gone, Pqlina whispered, “Well that definitely ruined our walk.” Ktyra sighed.
“I'm sorry you had to go through that.” Ktyra told her. “But he’s right, I don’t know anything about having a curse.”
“Well, maybe you don’t know everything,” Pqlina admitted, “but you know some things, and you were really good at defending me. I couldn’t have done that myself.”
“Well, thanks,” Ktyra said, smiling, and she smiled back. Then she took Pqlina’s hand and they both walked to class.
Foxmaster here!
Yay I finally found time to review this, XD.
Ktyra woke up the next morning with her eyelashes weaved together. She squinted from the brightness, before going into the bathroom to get ready for school. I am a total idiot, so for a moment I thought that the part with her eyelashes weaved together was, she got a curse finally, and then I was like, no you idiot. you don't GET it, do you?
Ktyra locked her bike into the bike rack outside and walked in through the double doors at the entrance that was held open by a wooden door stopper. The head of the elementary school, Ms. Crystal, greeted her at the door.
“Well, it’s just lonely in the morning without you,” Pqlina said, “C’mon, let’s go on a lap!”
Pquilina sounds kinda absent minded, I wonder why she thought Ktyra was late, though.
Walking around the school with Pqlina always made Ktyra happy, because people didn’t stare at her as much when she was walking with her, because she had scolded them a couple of times, and it was also just really nice to walk around the school and talk with a friend.
JERKs. But, to be honest, I would have made Ktyra activate his curse at the spot. (He deserves it, though.)
AAaand that is all! Although I just started a roleplay the curse of YWS tagbook if you're interested, because someone mentioned you, I think.
That is all! Adios!!!
-Foxmaster!!!
Hi, Foxmaster, thanks for the review!
To answer your question, Pqlina thought she was late because she always misses Ktyra when she doesn't come, so the time when Ktyra isn't there, it always feels so long.
ohhh sorry but i feel like you should have added it in, thanks for telling me though!
Cute scene here. Ktyra really seems like a nice person, that she would defend her friend like that. :) I love your imaginative curses. Like, the one about the rain cloud, the headaches when someone does something nice, the annoying loud noises in one's ear etc. Nice.
To be honest, this meeting with the sorcerer didn't seem that odd to me until now. It's just that there are so many oddities about this world, that I was like, why not sorcerers, too? Well, that was until Ktyra's friend thinks it's strange and perhaps even creepy that such a person would be there at a doctors appointment. I think thats odd and suspicious. I have a bad feeling her parents want Ktyra cursed. Perhaps she can't live without a curse...But only reading another chapter will tell me...
Quick Grammer tip:
while another teenager had just realized that they had forgotten their cello at home.
You are talking about one teenager here, so use the singular pronoun (he/she) You choose if this teenager is a guy or a girl and then replace the word they and their with the proper pronoun. ;)
Hi Kaia, I'm glad you're enjoying the book!
Sorcerers usually do not show up in a doctor's appointment, and most like to stay hidden because they don't like stares. (Like Ktyra) So that is why everyone thinks that it's weird.
And by the way, I changed the pronoun thing.
Kaia replied · Jun 26, 2023
I figured that. Hm. Do sorcerers not have curses, I wonder. (you don't need to answer if that's explained later or you don't want to. I was just curious. ;))
Cool! :)
I actually didn't think about that oops. Maybe I will make that come in later. :wink:
Ha ha! Maybe I just sparked an idea. ;)
Hey there,
I am so excited you posted part 2!!!
Im going to start reviewing right away,
Ktyra woke up the next morning with her eyelashes weaved together. She squinted from the brightness, before going into the bathroom to get ready for school. While brushing her teeth, she heard a crack of thunder- not from outside, but from in her parents’ room. Other people would have thought this was strange, but this was perfectly normal for Ktyra and her family. She heard the room door opening and her mother coming into the bathroom. I think its very nice that you kind of just explain what everyone their curse is little by little. I love that, you just do it in small bits and not in one whole time. Just like you did in the first chapter, you explained everything about the father his curse. I think the curse of Andromeda is kind of funny in a great way.
I love your opening, you are starting right off! Great job! And once again I love the name of your protagonist, Ktyra. Is shines and shows off boldness.
Me encanta
Oehhh...THat is kinda sad. Why are people always like that! Just because someone is different does not make them evil or stupid. I am glad they are not bulliying her. You have got a very nice writing style and your story flows diligently, <333.
Her school was a three-story building with brown bricks and navy blue and light pink walls. (Those were their school colors) It wasn’t tall, but it was wide and took up a decent amount of space. After all, it was one of the only schools in the village.
“Well, it’s just lonely in the morning without you,” Pqlina said, “C’mon, let’s go on a lap!”
Awww, she has a friend. That is so sweet. At least someone who accepts her like she is. Nice name for her too! Your paragraphs are not to long and are well understandable if you know what I mean. Which makes reading your story entertaining and more engaging to read. I think you are doing an amazing job!
Walking around the school with Pqlina always made Ktyra happy, because people didn’t stare at her as much when she was walking with her, because she had scolded them a couple of times, and it was also just really nice to walk around the school and talk with a friend.
And here I thought there were no bullies. I am glad Ktyra stands up for herself and is strong. I am glad she does not go being all shy and alone because of what people are saying. That is great! Not to be mean or anything but I think this is nice how you made it up, Little Miss I-Don’t-Have-A-Curse, Very well thought trough over there.
“She has no idea,” Apollo whispered to Rohwen, who laughed.
“What’s going on here?” It was the science teacher, Ms. Prinnings.
“Rohwen was activating Pqlina’s curse,” Ktyra told her. Apollo stuck out his tongue at her, and mouthed the word, “Snitch.”
Thank god, the science teacher came to the rescue. She got justice. Best friends forever, she and pqlina. Or are you going to do a deep dark twist....Spooky. Who knows.
Overall, this was a very nice second chapter. You managed to hold up all of the mystery about the sorcerer and the non magic Ktyra. You wrote very nicely and diligently and your awesome writing style makes reading so much more fun.
I am so sad that this chapter is over!!!!! I want more!!!!
Magically yours,
Rinisha
PS: IF you have time can you please review one of my MaryAnna chapter's (Your favourite one of all 7 episodes) I'd like to hear your thoughts.
Hi Rinisha, thank you so much for your review!
I am also sad that this chapter is over, but I don't like making the chapters longer than a 7-8 minute read, and plus I already made you wait so long.
I had not yet read your MaryAnna series when you wrote this review, but since then I have been trying to finish reading all the episodes that you wrote so far, and I am currently on Episode 4. When I finish reading all of them, I will hopefully be able to review a chapter. So far it is really good!
Hey there
I am soooooo glad that you have decided to continue it. I really love it! I am so excited to see where you take things next with her having no magic and the mysterious sorcerer who is going to be at her checking with the docter. I still feel very bad and sad for her dad that he has such a terrible curse. But you did a great job making it feel realistic that way readers can symathize with your characters and your story. I think you have a very nice writing style and should definitly continue it. I really love everything with magic and fantasy so I think you did an amazing job and you totally have a solomn reader now. <3
That's so nice! Youre already at Episode 4, wow your fast. Do take your time and I am very excited that you like it. <33333 Take your time with reading, I see your review coming by. I am so excited for your review already, oehhh im getting goosebums. Thank you for the comliments!
Magically yours,
Rinisha
Hiya! Koco (or Coko) here for a little informal review!
I read the prologue and first chapter when they came out, and I'm glad to see it continued! I think you've got such a neat concept to explore and develop here. How everyone's lives are affected and the minor inconviences really sell it. Not every curse is life-threatening, per say, but a hassle to deal with.
It's good to know that through all of it, Ktyra is still able to make herself some friends. Pqlina was a nice addition.
I'm really excited for the doctor's appoitment, as that seems like it'll be the event to kick everything into high gear. But for now, I think this small slice-of-life things are great for building up to it.
Over all, I'm super excited to see this story continue! I'll be tuning in for more, if you choose to continue and go forward!
Hi Koco/Coko, thank you for your review!
I'm so glad you're excited to see this story continue! Yeah, the doctor's appointment is kind of like the call to action, or at least the beginning of it.
