were conceived where the first light bled into the sky or
within the first strikes of lightning cutting through a storm—
that flash of cobalt so intense it steals the oxygen from your lungs.
there’s always movement in them, like the ocean when it refuses to be still,
waves folding into waves.
they shift with the light, turning from the hues of the ocean,
to the vivid azure of summer—when the sky feels too open.
dangerous, captivating, unrelentless,
until the sun sets, and the world sleeps.
Hello Hello I hope you dont mind me popping in with a quick review. I wanted to free this from the greenroom and check out this series. So I hope I can share my thoughts on this chilly mid-holiday night. With that being said let's get into it shall we?
Overall, I love this poem. It's very short but rich. You never seem to disappoint when it comes to imagery. There's quite a bit packed in these two short stanzas, and I must say I'm proud to have blue eyes right now. They sound so magical, almost divine, and ancient.
I don't know where even to start to be honest there's so much I enjoy. your prose is hardly purple but you create such striking pictures for the readers. The nature comparisons have to be some of my favourites there's a power to those waves yet they left me breathless due to their beauty.
Now normally I would jump into feedback however I couldn't find anything so I want to highlight a few lines instead.
These two lines are a great use of colour paired with the wild side of nature. It's brilliant I must say I think it's my favourite part of this poem. Although it's super hard to pick all of them are amazing. Truly this a feast for those who enjoy pouring over poetry.
What an ending! I have to say I am a sucker for poetry that comes full circle and you do this masterfully. You showcase such a wide range of blues here and you give such care to each one. It's amazing and I cant understate much I love this. '
Regardless I hope you and your family have a great day or night. Are they excited for the holidays? Just remember to take care of yourself during that time. As always keep writing and stay hydrated!
thank you so much for the awesome review! Happy holidays!
Hey, coming in with a review for this amazing poem!
I really really love this. I don’t have blue eyes but I know so many people who do and I’ve never seen them described this way! I think so many poets and authors fall into a habit of using the same metaphors over and over for blue eyes but this is fresh and new. I especially love the way you use imagery. The way you describe “waves folding into waves” has got me in a chokehold--it provides such a vivid picture in my mind and just seems so pretty, if you know what I mean! The metaphors in this are also just magnificent.
The last lines are some of my favorites--it seems like you’ve gone down a different path when you’re describing the sky, but in the end it all just ties up in a perfect bow. And the picture was the perfect one to have chosen for this poem.
Overall, I just loved this! This series of poems is just perfection on paper, and the way you describe each is so unique. Bravo!
