Einstein

by Kabloozleman

Thirteen point two billion light-years away.
The farthest galaxy.
The smudge on a photograph.

Thirteen point two billion light-years away.

Thirteen point two billion years
For a speck of light to imprint itself
On hubble's hundred-hour gaze into nothingness.

Thirteen point two billion light-years away.

Thirteen point seven billion years ago
The big bang
Started it all.

Thirteen point two billion light-years away.

One could say looking at that galaxy
Is like looking into the eye of God himself.
Or, at least, a really old galaxy.

Thirteen point two billion light-years away.

Einstein once said it was impossible
To travel faster than light,
For light always travels the same speed.

Thirteen point two billion light-years away.

Einstein once said space stretches
To accomodate light's speed
Or sloth, to be fair.

Thirteen point two billion light-years away.

I disagree.
Einstein was wrong.
At least, partially.

Thirteen point two billion light-years away.

He says light controlls time.
He says the closer you get to the speed of light
The slower you age.

Thirteen point two billion light-years away.

For you are space, and light always travels faster than space.
So you stretch, and space stretches
And light stays the same.

Thirteen point two billion light-years away.

I disagree.
Time governs light.
Light does not govern time.

Thirteen point two billion light-years away.

Light is a piece of matter
With a split-personality disorder.
It acts as a particle and a wave.

Thirteen point two billion light-years away.

Time is non-existant.
It is eternal, everlasting.
Never changing, never wavering.

Thirteen point two billion light-years away.

Time does not bend to the will of light.
Light is a disobediant teenager
Who believes everything belongs to her.

Thirteen point two billion light-years away.

Light is a pawn
Used by Father Time to illuminate
Nothing more.

Thirteen point two billion light-years away.

Space could care less about light.
It remains neutral,
Light may stay or go.

Thirteen point two billion light-years away.

Space does not bend.
It is space. There is nothing to bend.
So light sulks away and makes fun of sound.

Thirteen point two billion light-years away.

Thirteen point seven billion years ago
Our universe was born.
And with it came light.

Thirteen point two billion light-years away.

Father Time was here before then.
Light is just an infant.
Father Time will be here long after.

Thirteen point two billion light-years away.

As we gaze at that five million year old galaxy
(Which is actually thirteen point two billion years old)
We see the universe as it was in its infancy,

Thirteen point two billion light-years away.
