Beauty in the Rain

by Icon

There’s always beauty in the rain,

Abysmal, yes, but never plain.

Thick gray cotton, silver lining,

Sunlight peeking, never shining.

Chorus of distinct white noise,

All of nature’s solemn joys.

There’s always beauty in the way

It drifts along and never stays.

Consistent, distant, appears when

It’s waving goodbye yet again.

Sunshine’s back, happier times,

Reveling in the deep blue skies.

There’s always beauty in the day

The storm returns, flowering May.

Blooming beauty, born of flooding,

Rapid colors all so sudden.

Wounded seedlings, grew not in vain,

There’s always beauty in the rain.

Hello IconspicuoslyAlpacaing! I'm here to review this lovely poem!

I really love this poem, it has a lovely sing-song feel that makes it enjoyable to read, and the imagery is beautiful.

My main critique is the flow.

There’s ALways beauty IN the rain,

ABYSmal, yes, but NEver plain.

THICK gray cotton, SILver lining,

SUNlight peeking, NEVer shining.

The flow in these first four lines is beautiful. Absolutely phenomenal, quite honestly. See how the pattern of emphasized beats is similar among the lines? The first two lines match each other, and the third and fourth lines match each other. That gives it an amazing feel and makes it very pretty to say aloud.

ConSIStent, DIStant, appears WHEN

It’s WAVing goodbye YET again.

These two lines, however, don't really match at all and as a result are much more awkward to say aloud.

In some poems, the meter doesn't matter nearly as much, but in a strongly rhyming poem, the meter is what ties it together. That's just something to think about when writing rhyming poetry. Try saying it aloud, to see if it flows comfortably, or if it feels a bit disjointed.

Just one smaller critique, as well -
Sunshine’s back, happier times,

Reveling in the deep blue skies.

"Times" and "skies" doesn't really rhyme the best.

Other than that, this poem is wonderfully written! I love how you describe how different rain can be, but how regardless, it's always special. I really look forward to reading more of your poetry!!!

That's it for my review, I hope it was helpful. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Keep writing!

Hi IconspicuouslyAlpacaing!
I really loved this poem because it brings attention and elaborates on the wonders of such a simple part of life. I personally, like the rain sometimes because it can be calming to listen to and I love how it revives nature and makes the flowers bloom. This poem is beautifully optimistic and highlights some of the less commonly thought sides of rain and it makes the reader think about simple things, such as rain, in a different light after reading this piece. I really liked how you had a rhyme scheme for this poem because it made it flow really well and I think you rhymed everything well except for the words "flooding" and "sudden" because those are the only words that are supposed to rhyme but don't quite. In my opinion, you should replace one of the words so that they do rhyme so that it doesn't mess up the flow of the poem. Nevertheless, this is a wonderful poem and it is very well written so great job! As always, keep writing and I look forward to reading your future works!

I know, I know. It's another rain poem. What can I say? I'm a creature not of land, but water. Also I wrote this for class and I'm waiting to get my grade back

As my artist’s statement explains, my work is utterly incomprehensible and is therefore full of deep significance.
