What can I do?

PreviousNext

I'm 17 and I was put on a medication a year or so ago, I quit taking it 6-7 weeks ago. Once my parents found out they flipped out on me and made me start taking it again about 2 weeks ago. I quit taking it because I didn't like how it made me feel. After being off it for a little over a month I started feeling like a real person, being able to understand things without being told multiple times, and actually having normal feelings.

My Dr. put me back on it on the starting dose about 2 weeks ago and on Nov. 27th I got a rash on my neck and face. I called my mom and told her about my rash on my face and what I think it's from, she said "You will be fine because you would of had the rash when you first started taking it the time." I told her that the rash could kill me which it can, she just repeated what she said the first time.

It seems like the only time my parents want to deal with me is when I'm on medication that makes me where i don't have any feelings. I don't know what to do anymore.

Perhaps you can talk this out with someone else like a therapist, but make it's one you really trust and feel comfortable with. Also, if you try talking to you're parents as calmly and as rationally as you can then perhaps they'd be willing to listen. You can ask them why they want you to take this nedication so badly if they see that it's harming you. You can also try getting a new doctor or reporting your current doctor. Your doctor needs to be listening to youm and uf sonething like this has been going on for a year, thenyou should really try getting a new doctor. And hun, your parents do care. Theyre looking out for you. They're just listening to the doctor because they believe it's what's best, they really don't know how else to make you feel better. But like I said before, you should try talking calmly to them, and don't give up when doing so. They do care.

Good luck, you'll be okay.

i would feel good with out this lamotrigine (lamictal). i've tried talking calmly and i just get yelled at. my second mom even said something to my parents

Ouch. Kind of hard to talk rationally with someone they aren't rational themselves.

I think you need to continue taking this medication but also tell your parents how you feel, force them if you have to!
Pm me or look for me in the chatbar if you want to talk.
P.S this is better in the blog section or your own wall.

I'm not gonna continue taking it if i have a rash from it and the rash can kill me. They don't listen to anything i say either they like to keep me medicated so they don't have to deal with my depression. If they really cared they would listen and take me off it

I know what you're going through, but not personally. I wouldn't want to take any medications that made you feel different, and where you acted differently. It is kind of difficult to stop when both your parents and your doctor are pushing for it. Perhaps you can talk to you parents and tell them that you want to stop... I don't know. Maybe tell that that you want to look at doing it the natural way. What your sickness is, I have no idea. But everything has a natural medicine. Hopefully this helps. Feel free to pm me if you want to talk or blow off some steam. I'm always happy to just talk about stuff.
And just talk to your mom and dad. Tell that that you don't feel right when you have the medication. Who knows? Maybe it's even affecting your grades! ;)
