The book is a true friend,
Because the book doesn’t judge you,
Doesn’t make fun of you.
The book doesn’t see you as fat or ugly,
And every time you open it it welcomes you with ready pages.
The book doesn’t care if you’re blind or deaf,
Just so long as you don’t mistreat it.
The book doesn’t mind when you listen to loud music,
Or if you’re home schooled.
And all the book asks for is a cool, dry shelf on which to rest
When you’re not reading it.
The book doesn’t ask for money, or companionship, just for time.
Time in which you turn the pages and
With a careful eye read the words
So as not to miss anything.
The book doesn’t ask questions,
Doesn’t care if you’re rich or poor,
Well fed or starving.
The book can be hurt,
Ripped, torn,
Just like we can.
I see the book as a friend,
And I do everything in my power
To not damage that friendship.
The book doesn’t want to know about your problems,
Things that are private.
The book doesn’t pry,
Or stare,
Or giggle behind your back.
The book doesn’t betray you,
Doesn’t lie to you,
Never changes.
The book is always there when you need it,
And never stabs you in the back.
You can laugh with a book,
You can cry,
Or be angry, scared, happy, sad,
Or on the edge of your seat.
The best thing about the book,
It that it can take you anywhere,
Make you be anybody,
Put you in any period of time
And it doesn’t cost a cent.
So when you ask me who my true friend are,
I’ll give you a list of the people closest to me,
And at the top of the list
Will be my friend,
The book.

I really liked this poem, because I could totally understand it. Sometimes books are just so much less complicated than people, and sometimes they are some of my best friends. I really loved this, and I think the rhythm fit it perfectly. It flowed, and paused, in the right places. I could just really connect with it!

I'd take out the first comma.
I think that comma would be better placed here.
You go from a repetitive "doesn't, doesn't" to "never". You already have a repetition with doesn't going, so I'd change "never changes" to "doesn't change" (though I'm not entirely sure.)

The "I'll give you a list" seems just a bit awkward, but I can't think of anything better.

I could totally relate to this poem. I've always loved books myself. This is good. But something doesn't flow quite right. I can't really figure it out myself but hopefully you can. Other than that, it was good. Keep Writing!!
