The simple reflection of my appearance is visible in the water. Anxiously aware of the near silence of the night, I slowly look around. The weeping willows call my name, dancing in the wind. The wildflowers below tickle my ankles, moving in rhythm with the willows. It's quite a peaceful scene, but something about the emptiness, being left alone with nothing but my thoughts and the tauntingly beautiful water leaves me with a feeling of dread.

At some point within the hour, a woman walks up behind me. I choose to keep my head low, looking once more into the water. She puts her hand on my shoulder, and says nothing. Her presence is light, almost inhuman. Her energy surrounds me, filling the night with a form of light I hadn't seen in years. I felt my stomach drop, realizing the purpose of her being here with me, at this moment.

The woman brought the comfort of home with her, guiding me through dawn. When I finally look up, the woman is gone. The feeling of her hand still lingers on my shoulder. Rubbing my cheeks, I realize now that tears had formed in my eyes, but had been wiped away at some point. The woman's light guided me through the night, and will continue to do so for the rest of my days. Her energy surrounds me, even in death.

Maybe one night, I'll become the light of another.

Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening/Night(whichever one it is in your part of the world),

Hi! I'm Kate and I'm here to leave a quick review!!

Anyway let's get right to: Kate's Line by Line Reactions;

Well this is quite an intriguing little piece to digest here, we've really got ourselves quite a moving little piece here for something that's so short. I keep on finding more and more evidence that sometimes the shortest works are the ones that end up packing the most powerful punches.

This one's no exception I think in the way you describe this rather ambiguous figure of the woman that guided this person through this dark night. I love how it absolutely works on face value, guiding through a night, being a shining light and then maybe this person can help another. In the literal sense its already a lovely message but then you realize this could be a spouse, a best friend or honestly I think my main interpretation here just from the heavy symbolism that we're working with at the moment in terms of the whole dark versus showing light thing I think its a mother here. Then of course in future being a parent would satisfy the conditions of providing light to another best I think.

Overall a really powerful little piece that really leaves you with some things to think over there and quite a powerful message too at that.

Aaand that's it for this oneee!!!

As always remember to: Take what you think was helpful and forget the rest!

Stay Safe and Have a Nice Day!

This is beautiful- I really wish it was a chapter to an entire book. I feel like I can already sense the personality of this character. Somber and serious. I have a feeling that they're old- and though you never mentioned what exactly the character was doing by the water- I could guess they were reminiscing over the past. And again, this feels like SUCH a good epilogue for a story. Who was the woman? The character's mother? The only thing I can critique is the point of view- though your writing itself is excellent, a 1st person point of view shows a lack of experience in writing, since it's the easiest to perform. I would recommend it being changed to first person- an omniscient narrator telling the story simply sounds more professional.

Hello!
I'm here to leave you a review. :)
I had to read this twice to try to get the full meaning of this, because this was short, but quite deep. My interpretation is that the main character is alone, emphasized wonderfully by the way the willows seem to speak to him or her. The willows were also a great choice because they are sort of symbol of melancholy and wistfulness that ties in nicely with the theme here.

At first, I thought the woman was an imaginary figure, but when the main character looks up and notices that his/her tears have been wiped away, I thought the woman might be real. After another another read, the part about this woman's death stuck me. Is she the mother of the main character? I think that is the case because you mentioned that she brought the warmth of home with her to the main character. Strangers cannot do that.

Now, the main character is alone, weeping for his/her lost one. But, he/she is still strengthened by the memories of this woman and obviously is quite grateful for this woman's influence. Now, the main character wants to be the light for another. How beautiful! I love how the character goes from weeping to the sweet memories and finally to the conclusion that he/she wants to be that person that the woman was for him/her. What a beautiful message!

Over all, this was a great read! I love the mystery you put into this. It's the process of thinking and analyzing that really brought home the points you made here. I honestly can't really think of a place for improvement. Well done!

Hiya! This is Orabella here with a short review.

I absolutely love this! I'm not joking! Though it's short, it's powerful. (As is the way of most things)

Although the beginning started out with a simple description, I think it adds to the wonder. It seems like the normal beginning to a story. But right away the reader is starting to think something is wrong or off. It's such a short story, what can happen in a short amount of time? The third paragraph builds on the three words at the end: "even in death".

I wonder who the woman was? Maybe a mother? A partner? Or simply a friend? And how did she die? How is she able to come back? Or is she the imagination of the main character?

I love the ending line.

Maybe one night, I'll become the light of another.

I find this so sweet. I bet they will.

I'm so sorry this couldn't be longer, and I'm also sorry if some of my sentences don't make sense. I had to write this quick because I won't have an opportunity later today. But I truly and honestly love this. It's my favorite short story I've read in a while.

Keep writing!

Hey there GothKiddo, Icy here for a quick evening review!

This is quite a short piece, so I'm just going to jump straight in:

The simple reflection of my appearance is visible in the water. Anxiously aware of the near silence of the night, I slowly look around. The weeping willows call my name, dancing in the wind. The wildflowers below tickle my ankles, moving in rhythm with the willows. It's quite a peaceful scene, but something about the emptiness, being left alone with nothing but my thoughts and the tauntingly beautiful water leaves me with a feeling of dread.

I like that you start with description. It both helps to ground the reader in the setting but also maintain an air of mystery. It's a very fairytale like setting and I really found myself caught up in it all.

This part felt almost a little too vague. I like some of the things we're hinting at here but because none of them get developed any further I find it hard to become very invested in it.

I think that's my overarching thought for the whole piece. It's very beautifully written and it has some lovely language but because it's so short I can't connect with the characters or really appreciate the beauty of it. I'd love to see this extended a little more so you can really get a chance to explore more of this setting and characters.

Happy Wednesday!

Icy
