This is something I just scribbled up for my best friend Alex after probablyt the most important thing in his life was taken away from him: his lab Sable. Sable died of cancer Monday night unexpectedly in the hospital. She was 5. 
IN HONOR OF SABLE:
Muddy colored fur gleaming in the light,
Your eyes like stars, fallen from night.
Tail happily pulsing as I walk through the door
I wish you were here, but you're not anymore
My dear Sable, taken from our lives
That demon called Cancer even more thrives
Gargantuan tongue, assaulting my face
Takes me back to your incredible grace
Sweeter than a peach, sicker than deserved,
She was but a pup, in my heart you're reserved
As long as your in a better place, I swear I'll try
To take my sleeve and wipe my eye
My dear Sable, taken from our lives,
That demon called Cancer even more thrives.

Oh my god Elliot. I'm really sorry.
I have to say that this poem was really beautiful and...it kinda made me cry. And I'm not even lying because I have a really wet face right now.
And I don't think it's because I'm really emotional. But I know exactly what you and him are going through because I just lost a dog like one or two weeks ago. (Can't even remember >< ) And it was to bone cancer and...it can be tough. She was older but it kinda hit me hard. (And of course my rabbit died the day after but we won't get into that...)
It just really sucks when pets (friends) die like that, and you have my sympathies.
