I Tripped Just To Get Up

The steps taken today are the results for my future...

My tomorrow ended today when I gave in.

A constant reminder of where I was, where I wanted to be and where I am.

It was all poured out into what was the reality.

Yet, I stand with two eyes completely blinded.

To live on is to step forward,

But I tripped on the way.

You see, I live in a complex world;

Where one wrong step can destroy it all.

I have a mind that runs away from me;

If I chase these thoughts I will only fall.

Should I continue to be or

Should I end it all?

My tomorrow ended today when I gave in.

A constant reminder of what I was, what I want to be and what I am.

My heart spills on the floor of what is my reality.

I see it all with these majestic eyes.

To step back is to fall,

But I continued to walk.

My steps taken today will result for my future...

Hi there! I just wanted to say that I love this poem. It is clean, beautifully written and that, coupled with your wonderful use of figurative language really made the poem. I liked the repetition and I also liked the fact that you used dramatic expressions like "my heart spills on the floor". Overall, nicely done.

Thank you :)

Hello! I really like the repitition from the first line and the last line, it draws it to an end, yet also seems to represent the circle of life I think. I love how this is about life and the title, the title is so perfect I can't get over it. This poem is so perfect I can't even describe it. There was no critique's or anything that I could tell you to change, because like I said it's so beautifully written! :)

Thank you! :)

Okay, I am going to take a break from my review laziness hardship and say that your title for this really caught my attention! It just seems like a title for something that I would like to read. :P Also, I thought it would be a good title for a song or movie. I don't fully know why, haha, but on that note, here I am to review!

So I go from stanza to stanza and I'll be starting with your first line, and ending with your last one. Here I go.

The steps taken today are the results for my future...

I think this should be changed to: "The steps I take to day, will decide the results of my tomorrow," or

"The steps taken today, will decide the future,"

Something like that. I say this because I think that is what you implied, and the way you originally wrote it makes it quite a bit confusing.

First Stanza:

For the first line of that I felt as if, if there was just a comma it could have changed the way that sentence turned out completely. So here are some ideas on rearranging the first sentence, to have better flow, and be more understandable.

"Tomorrow ended today, when I gave in." or "My tomorrow had ended, today when I gave in."
And if you want to go for a long one. "My tomorrow had already ended, today, when I gave in." (Or because I gave in would flow better with that last example.)

A constant reminder of where I was, where I wanted to be and where I am.
What do you mean by this? I think that you mean to be specific, something was a constant reminder of where you are and etc... and so, the something must be acknowledged. It cannot be just "A" in that sense. So I would advise:

"It was a constant reminder of where I was, where I wanted to be, and where I now am." (Or you could start with, That was a constant reminder of where I was...)

Also I would advise you edit that line completely to make it much shorter, just because it juts out. Or, a better thing to do, would just be to format it in a different way. Chop it up so that it matches with the rest of the format. When you start with a format a certain way, it's important to keep up with it, for more visual effect, but then it also directs how the poetry is read.

It was all poured out into what was the reality.

I would advise,

"It all poured out into what was reality." this makes the line shorter, and it works with your flow, and also the article "the" in this case was not necessary so watch out for that. Sometimes reading it back to yourself and seeing if it works helps to know if you should take things like that out or keep them in. :)

Yet, I stand with two eyes completely blinded.
Well, in this case, I would suggest you add something that is actually needed in the sentence, in my opinion.

"Yet, I stand with my two eyes completely blind." Remember that blinded is an action and since this is kind of past tense, I would advise you change it to blind. Also, it's important in this case to acknowledge to whom the eyes belongs to, for the sake of the poem.

Your last two lines seemed pretty good to me. I think I like that analogy as well, we all kind of do "trip" when it comes to life. Yeah, I like it a lot. Overall though, the stanza was a bit confusing but like I say with such cases, I am not the best at deciphering some abstract poetry and welcome all kinds of explanations.

Second Stanza

The first three lines of the stanza were great! Well done! They had good flow. That said though, I do have some suggestions for the fourth line .

"If I chase these thoughts I will only fall."

I would suggest a few changes, and they are displayed below:

"And when I chase the thoughts, I only fall" Or you could go with "And when I chase those thoughts, I will only fall." those are my examples/suggestions.

Lastly don't forget the comma after "or" combining the last two lines.

Overall I found the stanza to be great and the basis of your poem, so congrats on putting it in the middle! I found it nice to read.

Third Stanza

So, I'd just like to refer you to your first stanza, and have you look at my advice for that first line. And the second one as well.

I would suggest instead of "My heart spills on the floor"

"My heart overflows, spilling my reality on the floor." try to rearrange words like that to get more visual aesthetics as well as to make the flow better.

"I see it with my two majestic eyes." I could tell you were repeating the first stanza but in a just more positive way, which is great, so I'd suggest changing the fourth line to what I have suggested above.

Finally I would suggest instead of saying "But I continued to walk." saying "So, I continued to walk." Because you are explaining that to step back is to fall. And then I continued to walk is kind of a different statement, am I right? So then that would be my advise on how to arrange that.

And then for the last sentence, here is the correction:

My steps taken today, will result in my future.

Personally I'd advise not adding the "..." (ellipsis) for the ending. It works better when you make it a firm point.

So overall, I thought that this stanza was a good ending, and had some good rhymes. All the stanza's have potential but I'd suggest a few edits here and there. I'd also really suggest you take a look at my suggestions and those of other's. But it's a good poem and I look forward to seeing. (And reviewing) more work of yours, also good title choice again!

:) Great job!

--Keep on dreaming on.

Wow this is exactly what I needed someone to do! Thank you so much for your suggestions! I wrote this poem late at night and just posted it to see what others thought. I guess, in a way, I wanted to confuse individuals when they read my poem because life is confusing; then again I was tired writing this haha. Thank you so much! This really helped me out a lot! :)

I'm so glad! :D

Hi there! Cosmo here for a review.

Lets go from the first line. Which I am struggling to understand, I don't get where your tense is, the wordage is very....weird.

"My steps taken today" That bit is good, it makes sense.
"will result" this bit is okay as well, it still makes sense.
"For my future" this is where I think it goes wrong. i think the word "for" should not be there, maybe it should be "in"? or maybe a rephrase is needed?
'These steps today will result in my future.' That to me makes sense. I underatdnw aht you're trying to do, to make it sound different. But frankly, to me anyway, it doesn't look or sound right.

Carrying onto the rest of the poem, I like it.
The language isn't massively colourful, but it's simplistic, and makes the point that you are after. You tell us about the steps through life, and how they affect our future.

It gets quite gritty when you start talking about suicide, and I can see where you are going with it. Why do we live our lives if we just struggle all the time? I don'y enough time or wordage to explain why we should live so I won't go onto that.

I like the setting of being on the path of life, it gives me something to visualize, which I like doing.

I do like it. But, I only wish it was a little more descriptive, and you had more experimentation with descriptions and language, just to make it more exciting to the eye!

Thanks! I've been waiting for people to review it or comment haha. This really helped thanks :)
