They're silent, oh so silent
They never make a sound
They're deadly, oh so deadly
You'll be left on the ground
.
What is that line on your arm?
.
They're alien, oh so alien
Their wide mouths scream alike
They're shocking, oh so shocking
You'll feel a lightning strike
.
What are those lines on your arm?
.
They're unseen, oh so unseen
They never leave a print
They're soulless, oh so soulless
You won't have time to sprint
.
Why is your arm covered in tally marks?
.
They're near you, right behind you!
Turn 'round and face your fate!
They're charging, your lights are flicking!
For you, it's much too late.

I love repetition in poetry, it's always one of the first things I touch on. I love the repetition in the beginnings of certain lines, and the italicized lines between stanzas adds to the poem. While I don't watch it and have no clue as to most of what happens, I feel like it refers to Doctor Who, or something in the show. Regardless, I love this poem.
Hey there Dracula. Lizzy here to review another one of your fandom related stories/poems. By the way have you written a second chapter for the Fanfic? Well enough chit chat, so without further ado let the reviewing begin.
I think you may have found out in my previous review, that I love Doctor Who. (If no one reads my reviews, look at the profile picture.) I will try and focus on the main content on the poem, try and forget I know exactly which "aliens", you are referring to.
Grammar and Spelling
I always like to start with this topic, so that I do not forget and go off on some wild tangent. I am not the best at applying grammar to poetry. From the knowledge that I have, I could not find anything. I should probably research this more, but I procrastinate, a lot. Alright, on to length.
Length
It seems that my opinion on lengths is always changing. From one week to the next my reviews change but I must say that your length is perfect. Perfectly wrapped up and the ending is a bow on top of the present that this was. Forward and let us conquer the content.
Content
Oh, this is my favorite part of reviewing, especially when it's a poem that I love. Silence were never my favorite but they are a great topic for a poem. At least this is my opinion. I would write some sort of separate, paragraph introduction, just in case you don't know Doctor Who. Also, loved the descriptions. Like I said before the ending was really interesting. Anyways, loved the poem.
I should tell you Dracula, this is my first review of the new year. Thanks for the wonderful present of poetry.
Happy Day After New Year!

Okay, I'm assuming this poem is referring to cutters. Maybe...? I love how you described the silence. Because personally, I can't stand it! I'm one of those "let's talk" people, rather than the introverted people. Anyways, I gotta go. So that means this review must be cut short. It was awesome! I really hope you keep on writing stuff like this. Have a wonderful day! And may you find a four-leaf clover!!!! Sorry if that was random...I'm usually like that. Anyways, I'm rambling now. This was a really good poem. Better than those awful love poems. This was a nice refreshment. I love it, bye, bye!!! Have an awesome day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello there! I love this poem! i love the way you described the silence. This was very eerie and well put together. I love how in some lines you repeated yourself. It's very "Edgar Allen Poe" like. i think you did a great job overall.
Plus, my favorite enemy of the Doctor was the Silence. So Bravo!
Hey,
). I loved how you added the "Why do you have lines on you arm?" part, showing that they were looking away from it...
Personally I thought it was very suspenseful and I didn't know what was going to happen next. So anyway, great job, and keep writing cool fanfic poems!

I loved this, it really described the Silence well (I am a Whovian by the way

Thank you
Hey, yo, Jazzydracula! Strangelove here on PokeReview Day and I have a review for you!
A science fiction poem, heh? I thought this was interesting. The subject of aliens is something you can make fun of or go along with it. Usually results turn up below par or just tries hard to be something great. Does this poem try to be great? Is it one of those poems? Not exactly. They do share some themes I'll elaborate later in the review, but let me get onto the good stuff first.
This has a really nice beat going for it, to be honest. It seems like one of those indie songs about aliens and could possibly mean something else. As stupid as that sounds, it's true. This can be a song with a steady beat. Your stanzas are nice, neat, and packed together for a successful flow.
A problem with this poem is that you rely on that one first line. "Oh, oh my!" That type of thing. When you use it often, it's called being repetitive, which this is. It makes it seem like a kids poem, to be honest. It felt like it belongs along those lines. It's that simple! There needs to be slightly more complexity to help it out. It was a good poem for what it was, but it's that case of being too simple.
Overall, decent job.
Strangelove gives you...
6.9/10
Good job,
Keep writing,
Stay groovy, my friend.

This poem is great. I didn't really know what to expect since your description was "a poem about silence". I guess I expected a poem of awe and philosophy or something, but it turned out to be really creepy and awesome! I love how you describe "them" and they are unseen, deadly, soulless, alien, and silent, and the whole time I was like, "Who are they!"
I enjoy these types of poems with suspense and you did a great job of writing one. It had me going. Well done, jazzydracula.
Thanks! I wrote this poem as a fanfic so that only Whovians could understand it, so it's pretty amazing that you actually enjoyed it.
Hello there, jazzydracula. Great name, by the way.
Obviously this is a Doctor Who fanfic, talking about the Silence.
Let's pretend for a second that I have no idea what Doctor Who is, though.
Looking at the way you describe "they" doesn't really tell us anything about "them". Here's what we get.
-silent
-deadly
-wide mouths
-unseen
I see. However, that doesn't really convey anything about how frightening "they" are. You tell us they're shocking, but that isn't really a characteristic of "them", it's a reaction that the narrator should have to "them". So really, this poem comes down to showing and not telling. Instead of giving general characteristics about them, really get into the details. Don't overdescribe, but show us why people are frightened of them instead of simply saying "they're scary!"
Someone who didn't know what Doctor Who was would have no idea what the purpose of the tally marks is. You don't really mention anywhere in the poem the main characteristic of the Silence: that you forget them every time you look away. That is literally their thing. Basically the only thing that makes them scarier than other creatures. So definitely add that.
Try not to use "they" as much. Perhaps experiment with different ways of conveying the idea that there is a they without using the word they. Perhaps make the poem a little more fragmented, as the memory of the narrator is fragmented.
Finally, fanfiction, in my opinion, should tell a new story about something. This doesn't really tell a story about anything. It just describes an existing character in a series. Try putting something new into it. Otherwise, it's just information that Whovians already know, and anyone else who read it would have no clue what it was about.
Your meter is spot on. I don't usually write poems with meter or rhyme, but you pulled it off pretty naturally. Good job on that.
I hope that this review proves useful to you. Keep writing, and have a great day!
Hello.
Kanome here with a review for you.
Personally and honestly, I have heard of Doctor Who, but I never seen the episodes.
So I am sorry if I screw up on this review ^^
Okay, I personally like the lines in italics because it brings out the true nature of the person.
I love how the rhyme scheme is formatted, plus the use of words.
Nitpicks:
- I am a weirdo when it comes to commas, so I am sorry once again if I screw up >.<
I personally think there should be a comma in the last line. Like this:
Other than that, this is a rather interesting poem.
Keep up the great work.
I can't wait to read more c:
I will consider watching Doctor Who, so I will understand this piece a little better.
- Kanome
Thanks! I'll add in a comma, I think you're right.
Enjoy watching Doctor Who.
DOCTOR WHO! IT HAS TO BE! THE SILENCE!
Yes! Finally! A poem about Doctor who.
Themes!
So your themes are obviously alienism. You obviously know your Doctor who well. I can just see the thick, black tally marks sweeping up and down the bodies and I can just see those awful, monstrous Silence, with there middle finger longer than all the rest. I can see their saggy skin and filled over mouths. I can see that electric sizzling and sparking out of their fingers. Br. The Silence are very scary. I live how you linked everything into your poem, and how their name relates to their qualities.
Devices used!
So, being a huge Doctor Who fan myself, I can easily see why you have used the devices above:
1) The use of repetition could have several meanings to it. I think the most obvious one is that your trying to stress how dangerous they are in Stanza one and how you'll never know they're there if you have your back facing them. But I was also thinking, you repeat it to emphasize how you will forget about them when they are out of sight, so its like a warning message. Cleverly written, my friend.
2) Rhetorical Question. Well, I think this is quite an interesting one. You could interpret that the speaker/protagonist is asking themselves the same question or that someone else is to highlight that the Silence have been seen, but have been forgotten. Oooooh! Just thinking about it gives me the chills.
You could have used enjambment to show us that time is running on and the Silence keep being forgotten - but that doesn't matter because this is an awesome piece!
Keep it up, fellow Doctor Who fan!
Well I WAS going to review this but I suppose you've already stated everything that I had to say
Whovians forever!
Thankyou! I love your description, you should write your own poem

I'm not exactly certain /myself/ about who is asking about the tally marks. You know how in some video games, a sentence might pop up saying 'you see the dog' or something like that? No one is telling you that you that you see the dog, and you're not telling yourself. It's like that.
No problem, @jazzydracula! It loved it.
Whovians forever! ~ @BitterRosemary
