In Trembling Power

Lalia sat there looking down at the lifeless body of her brother. What had she just done? It all happened so fast and Lilia couldn't breathe. She stood up and stared at him, imagining him sleeping. There was no guilt prickling her heart, and Lilia didn't understand why. She slowly made her way to the trash can in the kitchen, remembering the cracker box. Opening the lid, she found it was there, ready and accessible. Taking it out, she turned back to Mace.

Lalia stooped down low, and turned his head over. She could see his emtpy blue eyes staring back at her. She shivered. Using her free hand to open his mouth, she quickly stuffed some crackers down his slimy throat. Then, she took his floppy arm and made the hand grasp around his neck, like he was choking.

Rising to her feet, she placed her still shaking hands on her hips and view the work that had been done. Perfect. Absolutely perfect. Lalia decided to go outside, so that when her parents came home from their errands and such, she would look absolutely innocent. But something felt edgy about this, and she feared that they would catch her soon enough. Still, she went to the sliding glass door and placed a hand on the handle. Staring at her own nervous expression in the glass, she turned it.

The breeze from the outdoors hit her instantly, the smell of blossoms filled the air. Her father had planted a blossom when he first moved into the house. That was over twenty years ago.

There was a swingset down in the corner of the yard, one her mother built when Lalia was two. Her legs shaking, she walked over to the yellow set.

It moved slightly in the wind, as if a ghost child were happily swinging. Lalia sat down in it, her feet now touching the green grass that lie underneath the swing. She rocked gently back in forth, gripping the metal chains. They were cold and sent a shock through her fingers. The house was looking at her, probably accusingly. She couldn't look at it much longer, it was haunting her now.

She felt hot tears fall down her face, onto her lap. "I just got rid of him, that's all. I didn't do anything bad..." Trying to convince herself wasn't working. She started to go higher on the swings, so her body straightened out to face a blinding sky.

The wind was roaring in her ear as she pushed harder and harder, trying to forget everything that had just happening. Now she was denying it even more. "This isn't real," she thought, coming back down again. Her feet pushed off the ground as she squeezed her eyes shut. "I didn't do it; this is only a dream. It's all just some crazy dream. I probably fell asleep thinking of how much I hate Mace. I would never kill him, I wouldn't!" Lalia didn't know what she was doing as she thought this, but when she stopped talking she found herself off the swing set. The front door slammed shut inside the house, and she could hear footsteps.

It sounded like her mother's black high heels were clicking against the floor. Lalia closed her eyes and tried to imagine her mother walking into the house.

The forty-five year old would be wearing a blue dress, her black hair would be up in a bun. A sleek black purse would be dangling from her arms. The makeup on Allisia Bandie's face would be nothing but perfect, the eyeliner would not be smudged.

Then, there was a scream.

This is what sent chills marching up and down young Lalia's spine. The scream repeated itself twice, and she heard something fall to the floor. Probably that sleek black purse of hers. Lilia calmed her shaking hands and put on her acting face. It was time to be her mommy's baby; an innocent creature with no intentions to harm anyone. Lilia stopped for a second. Did Lilia really intend to wipe Mace off of the earth? Or was it all a mistake? She had no idea and chose not to think about it. Rushing to the screen door, she yet again placed a hand on the brass handle.

Lalia ran inside, scurrying to the kitchen. Her mother was there, clutching Mace's hand.

"My baby, my precious baby. Wake up for Mommy, please?" Lalia couldn't see her mom's face, but her mother's mascara was probably running down her blushed cheeks.

"Mommy?" Lalia asked, mustering up some fake tears. "What's going on...?" Then she let out a fake gasp of surprise.

Lalia hadn't really taken a chance to analyze Mace's face after she had ran outside. It was strictly white, the color of a cloud. Though his face appeared soft, she could see he had been caught in mid cough. Lalia noted the lump in his throat from where she had stuffed those crackers. Lalia then looked at her mother's quivering figure and could bear no more. It was then that she heard the pounding of her father walking into the foyer.

"Honey, honey, come in the kitchen quick!" her mother screamed.

Feet pounded against the floor, her father running to the kitchen. His facial expression read worried and alarm. Mr. Bandie began to rest a hand on Lilia's shoulder, but she drew away.

"What, happened?" He peered around the ten year old girl, then he too gasped. "No!"

Lalia wasn't sure what really happened after that...

Hey! IamTraunt here to review this piece that I've been promising to do for quite a while now. So here I am, happy Writer? :D

So, last time I didn't pick out any Nitpicks because someone had taken up everything to nitpick. (You know who I'm talking about Writer) But that's because that person is amazing. Yes you are, o'Great Cricket, if you're reading this

Nitpicking Time!

Using her free hand to open his mouth, she quickly stuffed some crackers down his slimy throat.

You need a space in between 'mouth' and 'she'. Any by the way... Ew. When I read this I could just imagine Lilia (as me) pushing these dry crackers down this horrible canal of saliva and mushed up food... Sorry. I'm getting too complicated :D

Lalia sat down in it, her feet now touching the green grass that lie underneath the swing.

This should be 'sat down on it'.

She rocked gently back in forth, gripping the metal chains.

Back in forth? That can't be right! Hee hee. You know what it should be ;)

She felt hot tears fall down her face, onto her lap. "I just got rid of him, that's all. I didn't do anything bad..." Trying to convince herself wasn't working. She started to go higher on the swings, so her body straightened out to face a blinding sky.

I think what stumbled me was that you put dialogue and then said 'trying' to convince herself. It didn't seem right. If your not going to use tags and put 'she said' then you need to split it up into separate paragraphs, like so:
She felt hot tears fall down her face, onto her lap. "I just got rid of him, that's all. I didn't do anything bad..."
Trying to convince herself wasn't working. She started to go higher on the swings, so her body straightened out to face a blinding sky.

The wind was roaring in her ear as she pushed harder and harder, trying to forget everything that had just happening.

That should be 'ears' as its most likely that the wind is roaring in both her ears, not just one.

Spoiler

I agree with Therese on this one. I think you should put it in italics, but also, I think you should split it up into different paragraphs as this all together is very large. Maybe you should split it from the moment were she is thinking :)

A sleek black purse would be dangling from her arms.

A purse can't really dangle from both your arms, so it shouldn't be plural. Just put 'arm'.

I can't imagine what Mace's mom and dad must be going through as obviously we aren't old enough to have had children so we wouldn't have experienced such a thing. But I imagine that how you described it is how it really would be.
Many people say a good writer (or writers) have to not tell the story, but to make the reader live it, which I would say say the case for your story. You made it believable and realistic (though I'm still shocked about deranged 10 year old girl murdering her brother). I have also noticed that Therese has pointed this out (does that girl always know what I want to say? XD), but you do go through it step by step, as if your analyzing each step, taking it and then writing it down. I seriously feel as if I've lived this.
The emotions that Lilia are going through are also understandable. I mean, who wouldn't be questioning their motives? I'd be going crazy, I'd be asking myself over and over why? as that would be true to life.
Why did you do it Lilia?! G'agh! It's killing me.

Great job, you two. Keep it up!

Hi gurrrls!! Cricket here to review another chapter written by two of my favorites! :P

Gah, I should have started at the beginning of this, instead of reviewing the fourth, and now second, I know! But I'm typing this review while not connected to the internet, so I can't switch right now. Figured I'd get it done while I have it up, or I'd forget my PROMISE to myself you about not being able to beat me! :D

On towards the review!

So Lalia kills her brother and then is not sure if she is regretting it or not...Hmm, I almost thought she was in some sort of shock, for a sec. But I remembered from your fourth chapter, that it was as if something was controlling her, so that might be it. :D

I absolutely love how you and Raven do descriptions. It seems you guys imagine the scene, and then go through it step by step, and analyze what exactly happened one minute at a time. Very well done. I am going to point out a couple of spots later on in my review that I think needs a little touching up on (nothing big AT ALL), but for now I can only give you guys a big round of applause for this magnificent job. *claps* :D (I remember gushing in an earlier review about your descriptions. XD I hope I don't sound like I'm repeating myself, but you guys truly have a knack for it!)

If you both are writing this chapter, with styles inter-mixed then you guys are fabulous at making it flow together!

It all happened so fast and Lilia couldn't breathe.

This line I just had a slight problem with, as one section seems to be in present tense, when the intent I believe was to be past tense, and the other section (after the comma) I didn't think went with the first section.

It all had happened so fast is how I think it should be done. Had makes it past tense I believe. :D

The last section I'd either get rid of, or try and make it connect with what you're trying to say. :P

I only have a suggestion to make with this! :D Thought usually is put into italics, instead of dialogue form. So there wouldn't be quotation marks, following the thought.

So kinda like this...

This isn't real, she thought, coming back down again. Her feet pushed off the ground as she squeezed her eyes shut. I didn't do it; this is only a dream. It's all just some crazy dream. I probably fell asleep thinking of how much I hate Mace. I would never kill him, I wouldn't!

The parts that are thought are always put into italics. :D Hope this was helpful, somewhat!

"What, happened?"

Silly nitpick, but unnecessary comma.

The forty-five year old would be wearing a blue dress, withher black hair pulled up in a bun.

I put in red where I think you could put it differently, so as to make it flow better.

The house was looking at her, probably accusingly. She couldn't look at it much longer, it was haunting her now.

These two lines I don't think have very good sentence connectors. Maybe tweak with them a little? :D Try out and, but, now, and just any good solid connectors that you can find!

Those sentence connectors aren't exactly meant for that instance right there, as there are several other ones you can use. :D

The makeup on Allisia Bandie's face would be nothing but perfect, the eyeliner would not be smudged.

Line seems a little redundant to me, as you use two would's.

Then she let out a fake gasp of surprise.

OK, just one more suggestion! When you say an action, sometimes they will fall flat, and the reader won't feel what is happening. They might understand what's going on, but they won't be sad for the character, or whatever emotion they are experiencing. So my suggestion would be to run through, and try and describe the action instead of just telling us.

And don't be afraid to over-exaggerate when doing it! If you fall short with it, then the reader won't feel emotion, and if you go over then, a trim on a couple of spots later on, will fix the exaggeration and it will be perrrrfffeeeetttt!!

This is actually just a common trial that all us writers go through. Telling instead of showing. We all do it, at one point or the other. Don't laugh, but I STILL do it, and its quite embarrassing sometimes! Always just read aloud to yourself and try and see at what point you are telling and now showing! :D

OK, and that's it from me now! Hope this little bit helped ya!

~Cricket

.....
WHY ARE YOU SO AMAZING.
Thanks for the review Therese I'm still going to beat you
Very helpful! :D

HA, you girls think you can beat me behind my back! I stalk everybody's walls so you can't plot without me at least hearing about it

You're welcome! *moves BACK to Chapter 1*

stahp! I forbid you from stalking meh wall XD

HeHeHe, I'll make sure I leave my Therese stamp on it, just for you. lol :D

Hello, thewriters13 and Raven.
Kanome here with a review for you.

I read the first chapter of this (You saw my review for that, obviously.)
So I feel like I had to read this chapter.
I really like this story so far.
It's intriguing to me.

Okay! On to nitpicks...
Okay, in this line... I feel like there should be a pause there. Like this:

The makeup on Allisia Bandie's face would be nothing but perfect; the eyeliner would not be smudged.

She shivered. Using her free hand to open his mouth, she quickly stuffed some crackers down his slimy throat.

In this line, it feels like it needs to be revised. It seems .. wrong to me. I don't know how or why, but it just does. I think you should rewrite this sentence. It's a suggestion. If you want it to be this way, it's fine ^^ I understand perfectly.

You should also consider rewriting these two sentences right here.
Opening the lid she found it was there without much food covering it. Taking it out, she turned back to Mace.

Again, only a suggestion. I understand if you made it this way.

Other than that, I think you should continue this. I want to know what happens.
Keep up the great work c: I can't wait for the next chapter update.

This is only a rough draft Kanome. XD I didn't even publish it yet and I'm confused as to why it showed up in the sidebar

But thank you for the suggestions :D

Yeah this continues to be confusing.

Sorry also I'm not thewritersdream XD I'm Thewriter13

Hey again, guys!

I don't know why I was expecting there to be some sort of time lapse between this post and the one before it. I almost wish there was, but I understand that y'all are writing some essential information in this whole death scene. Plus, her first kill is definitely an important occurrence so it should not be glossed over. I worry a little that y'all might spend too much time here, if you know what I mean. Right now, it's good. However, it can easily turn bad if you're not careful.

I saw some of the same problems with this post as I did with the first one. Again I'm going to mention the tendency y'all have of over-feeding the reader.

There was no guilt prickiling her heart, and Lilia didn't understand as to why that was.

All that extra was unnecessary.

her father not stopping 'till he reached where Lalia was.

You don't need to tell your reader that the father didn't stop. We understand that if his wife was yelling out, he wouldn't take a break to take off his shoes at the door or hang his coat. Some things are common sense to your readers, so when you write out those common sense things it's weird to read - and I keep using the word "weird" because it's the best description of the sensation.

Trying to breathe again.

I don't understand what that fragment is doing here. It doesn't really fit with the sentence before it, and alone makes no sense at all. I suggest removing it.

"The wind blowing away the evidence of the dampness."
"...so her body was almost flat when she reached the top."

I've picked out two example here where the imagery you're trying to present becomes weird to the reader. That wind would have to be extremely strong to blow tears off of someone's face and it's strange to try to envision something like that. Also, the image of a flat body makes me think of those Capri Sun commercials where the kids turned to paper. I can only assume that you mean flat as in horizontal, but if so then you should just use the word horizontal.

Different words have different connotations when used in a specific way. If one word isn't getting the image that you want across, then it's fine to use another. Try reading your piece out loud because this helps to catch some errors in diction and syntax.

--

Oh my goodness this girl is crazy. And I love it! I like the way she just composes herself and plays the part she needs to. Totally insane.

I have to question where y'all mean to take this though. Does she just go on killing people or is there some greater conflict to be revealed? I guess I'll just have to keep reading to find out. The mystery behind the girl's power is enough to keep me interested for now.

Stay writing, guys! I'll be here for part three.

-RP

This was saved as a draft! XD

I was gonna publish this tomorrow! How did you find this??? O_o

I don't know! D: It was just there.

I know I didn't publish this...where did u look?
