So unless you're some bigshot CEO that makes millions, a lurcher living off daddy's money, or someone who just got lucky, you've probably had a minimum wage job at some point in your life right? I think you could agree with me that they suck.

The place I worked at was a absolute shithole! My Boss was such a scumbag for someone running a pizzeria! (I should've quit from there sooner)

Memory One: Leftovers

Anyplace, be it a high-end restaurant or a fast food joint, if you have food left over you would just toss it out, am I right? Well that was the same where I worked, if we had any leftover pizza (which was mainly boxed pizza) we were supposed to toss it in the dumpster. I didn't have a problem with this since the town I lived in had some homeless people living around, I'm sure that they sometimes went in the dumpster behind the place, so because of this I would make sure to put it besides the dumpster instead for easier access.

My asshole of a Boss had a different opinion on the matter...

It was a weekday, maybe Wednesday, when it happened. I was working the closing shift with my buddy Freddie, we were cleaning the place while we chatted about the High Schools we went to, I went to one in my neighborhood while Freddie went to one across town. As we were putting the cleaning supplies back in the closet, our Boss came from his office in the back.

"You boy's haven't tossed the leftover pizza out yet have you?" He asked us, he had a stern look on his face. (but then again he always had a resting bitch face.)

Freddie had shook his head, "Nah, we're 'bout to" I nodded along to what Freddie had said.

"Good, now before you boy's toss it, grab the bleach from the top shelf in the closet and pour it onto the leftover pizzas." As he spoke he made hand gestures to what we should do.

Me and Freddie were fucking jaw dropped at what he wanted us to do, a light behind us flickered as we both try to process what he just said.

"Pour fucking bleach on the pizzas?!" I had yelled as I stared at him all bug-eyed. From how calm he sounded saying it would've thought he lost all his sanity.

"The hell you want us to do that for!?" Freddie yelled at him as he ran a hand through his hair.

Boss made a sound like he was annoyed by what we had said, "So those damned rats out there don't eat it!" He pointed at the front door as he spoke, "And you boys watch your damn mouth," he poked harshly as Freddie and I's chest,  "Ever speak to me like that again, and I'll have you both screaming apologies at me instead!"

A chill went down my spine at what he said, at his words I became tight-lipped and pale as a ghost on Halloween, I just grabbed Freddie by his arm and went in the supplies closet so we could get the bleach..

After that incident I would toss the leftover pizzas first, but I would pour the bleach on the floor instead of the pizza so it wouldn't look suspicious when I mopped the floor..

Memory Two: [ R_E_D_A_C_T_E_D ]

At this point I've been working at this place for three years. (I'm not proud of that fact.) Everyday was it's own wild adventure, from dealing with annoying customers to bratty kids.. While I could always count on everyday having something new and different for me to deal with, I learned that there was always one day I could count on to be that same.. October 31st, Halloween Night.

I was working the night shift, Freddie had plans so he clocked out early which left me all by my lonesome. The lights in the diner were shut off, only the front counter and kitchen lights were on, I'd say it was about 11pm. We were still open since people liked to order pizza for the party's they have on Halloween, and also if the late night office working wanted a slice of pizza before heading home.

I was seated on top the counter watching the time tick by, waiting for when the clock would strike 12, so I could leave and go home. The sound of the door opening and closing dragged a sigh out of me, I hopped off the counter with a groan. Once I turned around I found myself face to face with the barrel of a gun...

I felt my heart stop for a split second, it was as if time itself froze in that instant..

"Give me all the cash in the register, and you can leave here without having a trip to the ER."

Remember when I said I could count on Halloween Night always being the same? Well it just fucking changed right now! During the time I worked at that place I learned that we always got robbed on Halloween, just never at gunpoint before.

"Did you hear me boy!? Give me the cash or you're getting a bullet between you eyes!"

The thug pressed the gun against the space between my eyes as a warning, I winced. I quickly opened the register with shaking hands, once I had it opened the thug grabbed the cash in it, not leaving behind a single penny.

Just as quickly as they came, the just as quickly as they left, once the thug got what they came for the bolted out the door, running past the guard who stood there and watched.. Once the thug left I fell to my knees, tears rolling down my face, I hold my head as I cry as I couldn't believe what just happened..

After some time of crying on the floor, I look up at the clock, my shift ended 30 minutes ago.. Gathering up my strength, I pulled myself up from the floor. I go through the closing process, which consists of cleaning and turning everything off.

Before I leave I grab a piece of paper and a marker, on the paper I write,

'I Quit. - Signed [REDACTED]'

After I place the paper in a spot that's noticeable I exit the pizzeria.

Sobbing the whole way home.

Hello! It’s CATS here to drop a review! Since I’m on IPhone, I would be using a method not involving quotes. Anyways, let’s dive in!
I’m really interested in teenager stories and action, so this is perfect for me. Oh! It starts off by telling us basically why minimum wage sucks. And then the memories start. I can tell the narrator has been through a lot just by the first few paragraphs! Well done!
FIRST MEMORY
Wow. The boss sure is intimidating. I would wonder how old the teenage boys are. I think it is very nicely done, and it was neat that you pu the boss’s quotes in bold. It makes him sound more stern and scary. Also, the end is either suppose to be one period or three. But that’s all! It’s done really well.
SECOND MEMORY
Oh! Being robbed must have been a terrifying memory. And losing all the cash??? That’s just depressing after how the narrator made so much and worked so hard for it. I like how he quit; don’t work there anymore.
OVERALL I loved how you made it first person and it is based on a true story. That’s so tragic, yet the boy was brave. Moving on to your next work!
Happy Reading, Happy Writing, and Happy RevMo!!
Love,
CATS

Hi Zook13! I'm here for a quick review!

To start off, I really like your general format for the story and it reminds me of some sort of testimony or statement, almost like those in the Magnus Archives Podcast. The redacted name also really helps add to that effect. I was also very surprised (in a good way) to find that this wasn't supernatural in any way. When I see the horror tag I just kind of assume it's gonna be supernatural like most horror, but I really liked your realistic approach. It definitely freaked me out in a different, but still scary way, as robbery and shitty bosses are stuff I could definitely run into in real life.

My main suggestions are grammatical in nature. The main issues I see are mixing up the use of periods and commas, tense confusion and then just general typo stuff.

I'll point out a couple examples of each to show what I mean, but to avoid being nit picky without permission, I'll hold off on pointing out all of them unless you reply and say you're okay with it lol.

I didn't have a problem with this since the town I lived in had some homeless people living around, I'm sure that they sometimes went in the dumpster behind the place, so because of this I would make sure to put it besides the dumpster instead for easier access.

So in this sentence, because the parts before the word "around" and after it are both their own clauses (b/c they stand on their own as sentences), there either needs to be a period after it, or you need to put "and" in between those 2 parts.

I was working the closing shift with my buddy Freddie, we were cleaning the place while we chatted about the High Schools we went to, I went to one in my neighborhood while Freddie went to one across town.

I'm pretty sure this one is 3 independent clauses which depending on how you go about it, could be 2-3 sentences, but not one. You could connect the first 2 clauses by putting an "and" between "buddy Freddie" and "we were cleaning," and putting a period after "we went to." You could also put a period after both "buddy Freddy" and "we went to" to make it into 3 separate sentences.

Another thing I noticed is the tense you use changes at the very end. It's established pretty early on that these events all happened in the past and are being retold, which is consistent with past tense language used through most of the piece, but in the last few paragraphs you fall back into present tense when you use verbs like look, go, write, place and leave. This is a super easy mistake to make, but thankfully it's also really easy to fix!

In the second paragraph of memory 2 I noticed 2 things. One is the use of the work "diner," which I think should be "dining room" or something of that nature. Additionally in the last sentence of that paragraph I think you want to say "worker" not "working."

Lastly for constructive criticism I noticed that you might want to refresh on the rules for punctuation when it comes to quotation marks, but in summary it basically comes down to these few things.
-If a quotation is in the middle of a sentence a comma goes on the inside of the end quotation mark
-If a sentence ends with a quotation mark, the period/other punctuation goes inside the end quotation mark

Overall, very nice story! I'd love to see more of this format and maybe learn what the purpose of this statement is. Is it for an investigation of the owner? A documentary? It would be fun to extend the universe to explain the redaction and also learn more about the world.

Keep Writing and have a great day/night!

Hi emily!! Thank you for the review!! I'm glad you liked the way I formatted it, I like doing some stories this way. The way I see and tried to intend this was someone documenting confusing and traumatic memories, be it the person themself or someone writing it down for them. The redaction of the MCs name was to keep the persons (and possibly others) identity hidden in case someone goes through papers and finds this document, it could also be this way if the person just want their name hidden but fine with other peoples names being there, this could also go for the gender of the MC! (which I kept hidden it my last story!)

Hello, My Friend!

Hi, Z00KI3! Meant to review this sooner, yesterday turned hectic for me ':D Anyway, here to catch up, I'll be reviewing this story now!

To start, OH MAN, this was a neat brand of memory to explore. Those low-paying service jobs are more stressful than a lot of people realize, especially nowadays, and reading these recollections was equal parts relatable, sympathetic, and just overall gave that feeling of "ugh" as I read—in a good way, as something tells me the goal was to capture that feeling of exasperation lol.

*ahem* As far as a technical review goes, this looks great! I only noticed two really, really tiny things in relation to apostrophe grammar:

"You boy's haven't tossed the leftover pizza out yet have you?" He asked us, he had a stern look on his face. (but then again he always had a resting bitch face.)

We were still open since people liked to order pizza for the party's they have on Halloween

So for "boy's", since this is plural and not possessive, I think it could do without the apostrophe. Same with "party's" in the second quote. But that is a tiny, tiny thing! Please feel free to ignore that just as well lol.

Onto highlights and reactions now, ooo, let's start with...

"Good, now before you boy's toss it, grab the bleach from the top shelf in the closet and pour it onto the leftover pizzas." As he spoke he made hand gestures to what we should do.

DUDE, WHAT?!?! That was wild, and I don't know if this is based on a true experience or not, but if so...Daaang, I have seen some measures taken by business owners to discourage camping and stuff, but BRO YOU AREN'T SUPPOSED TO POISON PEOPLE, WTH?! ToT

While I could always count on everyday having something new and different for me to deal with, I learned that there was always one day I could count on to be that same.. October 31st, Halloween Night.

Oh boy, as soon as I read "Halloween Night" in this part, I knew something was about to go down. Halloween can indeed get...interesting XD

The thug pressed the gun against the space between my eyes as a warning, I winced. I quickly opened the register with shaking hands, once I had it opened the thug grabbed the cash in it, not leaving behind a single penny.

Okay, I did NOT think it would get that bad. JEEZ (00 ')

Before I leave I grab a piece of paper and a marker, on the paper I write,

'I Quit. - Signed [REDACTED]'

After I place the paper in a spot that's noticeable I exit the pizzeria.

Sobbing the whole way home.

Man, this ending, I really felt for [REDACTED] here...Like, the emotion you capture, and the tone behind that "I quit" note? How traumatic, that is just awful.

Overall, this was another awesome exploration of past memories, and if these too are based on personal experience, I really really hope you have since found better working conditions <3 That said, nicely done here! :D

Thus concludes my review. To leave off, here are some inspiring quotes, courtesy of your resident Poe freak ~

"They who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who dream only by night."
"Words have no power to impress the mind without the exquisite horror of their reality.”
"I would define, in brief, the poetry of words as the rhythmical creation of Beauty."

Hi Raven!! Thank you for the review!! Thankfully this is not based on my own personal experience (i don't have job yet-) but my dad's when he was a teen. (but he now does graphic designing and has he own website!) When i was writing the scene about pouring bleach on the leftover pizza I couldn't believe myself either since it sounds so unbelievable that someone would say that!
