Dear Momma.

In Lyric Poems

Its a bit like a hallmark card, and has a bit of a crazy rhyming scheme.

Dear Momma,

You taught me how to talk,
showed me how to walk;
helped me learn how to read,
All the basics I would need.

You showed me what was wrong
and what was right.
How to love
and how to fight

There is really no way to thank you
For all my messes you have cleaned,
But at least I can thank you
For making me, me.

Now that I have grown
I have realized that you are strong
Tears you’ve never shown,
and how you’ve put up with us for so long.

You’ve always been dependable
Even though keeping me was a gamble.
At times I was unthankful
You always remained faithful.

So, thank you Momma
For holding my hand
and trying to understand.
I will always love you
To the moon and back.

Okay, let me try to correct some things. Well, you cannot depend on my corrections though, these are just my opinion or what I think?? Hope it will help.

There is really no way to thank you
For all my messes you have cleaned, ----> maybe you can turn "messes" into a simple "mess", or turn it to "For all the mess.."
But at least I can thank you
For making me, me. ---> doesn't really sounded good for me at first I thought that this is just a simple repetition but okay, I already get it. I'm just a little slow haha!

:D when it comes to the message of the poem, I really like it-- 100% .. I love my mom like you do, although I'm just a little stubborn, rebellious and we don't really get along pretty well, haha!

helloo there! :)
I will be your reviewer for today *nods* :D before I give you my criticism I want to say that I really like your poem! It is really sweet! And it's sweet of you to honor your mom this way :)
We often don't realize how much our parents did for us and this poem awakens us again!
A few little things:

You showed me what wrong
and right.
How to love
and how to fight

The first stanza in this part didn't really work for me. It feels like you have forgotten a word there or something...but maybe that's just me..I think it would sound better if you changed it a little.

My favorite part in this poem:
There is really no way to thank you
For all my messes you have cleaned,
But at least I can thank you
For making me, me.

Love it! :)

The end is really sweet!
nice work! I enjoyed reading this :)

Very sweet poem that sounds very personal towards the end. However, as you said, it flits between that and a Hallmark card. And, like you said, there's no solid rhyme scheme. But overall, it was a nice, little poem.

However, your second stanza is the weakest by far. First, you forgot the word "was" in the first line. I'd also change the first 2 lines with "You showed me what wrong/and what was right.", just to keep the meter relatively close. It also helps to show that your mom spent equal time on what was wrong and what was right.

I really like that last stanza. You break from the quatrains and only have a single couplet as your only rhyme. It makes the entire stanza heartfelt and personal, like you are the only 2 people that would understand it. Especially that last line, "To the moon and back." Not many people use that phrase anymore, so it makes it feel like it's just something that you and your mom (and maybe the rest of your family) share.

Overall, it's a nice poem. It's nothing outstanding, and I'm not really sure how to get it to that point. But if I was your mother and you gave this to me, I would love it.

He began to wonder why he had felt uneasy at all. It was like a man wondering in broad daylight why a dream had appeared so terrible to him at night.
