This poem was inspired from a painting I made over the summer. I thought- 'What is the story that it must hold?' while pending it down. It's one of the older works but I'm sharing it as I've never tired something like this before so I'm curious as to how it comes across. I'm not proud of the road in the painting but I believe it plays a pivotal role in the narrative. Let me know what you think about it!
Hiya, RokitaVivi here! I'm reviewing using the YWS S'more Method today!
could have flowed a bit differently. But as I said before, these are just minor criticism.Let's get this review started!!! So let's cook some delicious smores!
Top Graham Cracker - What I Know
This is just my interpretation, so take it with a grain of salt. The poem gives off nostalgic vibes with a hint of melancholy. Not going to lie, reading this got me me a little teary eyed.
Slightly Burnt Marshmallow - Room for Improvements
I did have a few criticism, but its mostly minor. Parts of the poem could have flowed a bit smoother or maybe switch the lines around. Like at the beginning of your poem
Chocolate Bar - Highlights of the Piece
On to the juicy stuff!!! A big fan of the atmosphere you've built, really hammers in that nostalgic vibe. I love your use of words . I especially love this one right here There were times where I cried a little and how you wrapped up the poem was great.
Closing Graham Cracker - Closing Thoughts
Overall, your poem is pretty good. Though there were some minor complaints, it didn't ruin the poem. You nailed the atmosphere and can see you wrote it from the heart.
Hope you have a good morning, good evening, and good afternoon! This is RokitaVivi signing out
Thank you so much for this amazing review, RokitaVivi! I'm glad to hear you liked it. About the part you pointed out, I'd love to hear your suggestions on how I could improve it. I personally don't find anything wrong with it but it if you offered an alternative, maybe I could comprehend if that part missed anything in particular. Thank you for your time and best of luck to your team this Review Day!
Helloo friend! Rae here, Can I just say this is heartbreaking in all the right ways?
First and foremost, the formatting is unique and interesting, it's eye catching and makes the readers more inclined to read which is smart! Even if it wasn't intended?
Second of all, this reminds me of a book. The POV of that one character you don't know enough about, that's just there for the backstory then poof where did they go?? I want to know more?? And this satisfies my curiosity, if that makes sense.
I have an odd affinity for shorter poems, so I really like how, while not being considerably short, this poem conveys the message without dragging it out or doing too much.
Nostalgia is a hard feeling to convey, since most don't fully understand it in the first place, but you did a good job! The visualizations I get from reading this are oddly aching, like I can feel the narrator's longing for their mother myself.
There's an odd ascending direction to this poem, from reminiscing, to hope that their mother is just hiding, to the realisation and acceptance of it all, there's a clear shift between the last two stanzas especially. Like it's starting from the end and back to the beginning, if that makes sense?
Overall, this is a beautiful poem. It tugs at your heart and leaves you almost wistful. I enjoyed this read aswell as writing this review, even if half of it is rambling I hope I got my points across <3 keep up the good work !!
Hey, Rae! Thank you for taking out the time to read and review this poem! It's quite heartwarming to receive so much appreciation that I had been neglecting all this time. It was a side project, inspired by the painting. But unsatisfied of the result, it had been gathering dust in my drawers. Until I found it one day and tried publishing it here. Best descision!
The center alignment was planned but the rest just fell into place. It's very interesting to hear that this reminded you of a book, the human brain is so varied in it's interpretations! The reversed timeline was very much intentional, I'm actually impressed you noticed that! I thought it'd be a forever hidden secret, but wow. Thank you for all the love! I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it.
Of course !! I'm so glad you decided to let light shed on this project despite your doubts, it made for a reminiscent read <3
Hey Alex, Alwaysea here, your poem is simply wonderful, and I honestly have no words strong enough to capture its beauty. Childhood memories with mothers are always the sweetest treasures for children. Having a mother who stands beside us through our ups and downs is truly a blessing. No matter how old we grow—whether we become CEOs or remain simple workers—we will always remain the little, mischievous children in front of our mothers. That bond is beyond measure, and you portrayed it so deeply here.
I must admit, I felt a tinge of jealousy reading this. Seeing such a close mother–child bond makes me wonder what it must feel like, and your poem captured that tenderness perfectly. At the same time, it also portrayed the heartbreaking reality of loss. Losing a mother feels like being forced to grow up overnight—suddenly responsibilities replace childhood warmth. You expressed this pain with striking honesty, especially in the line:
“How about you come out now?”
This plea from the children is so raw—it’s as if they’re begging their mother to return, even if just for a moment, to give them courage to face life.
My favorite part, though, was:
“Oh, I miss you so dearly, Mother
May you live in these trees forever
For us to visit, mourn and cherish.”
The imagery of the mother becoming one with nature is breathtaking—it feels eternal, spiritual, and consoling. It made me pause and reread those lines again and again.
Overall, this is a deeply moving poem, filled with grief, nostalgia, and love. It left me emotional yet grateful that such words exist to remind us of the beauty of that bond. Please do read some of my works when you have time. Thank you for sharing this piece, and please keep writing—you truly rock! 😎✨
Hey, Alwaysea! Thank your giving this a read dropping such a wonderful review. It really made me smile so hard, I really appreciate you. I loved the specific lines you pointed out. Personally though, the second stanza is my favourite! You really caught on a lot I was hinting at, so great job. I can't say for sure but I'll try to check out your latest works. I like your writing style so much but it's just that college just happened. I'm taking this week to catch on some tv shows and hobbies before the studies get important. But I'll definitely try to make time, I can say this much. Thanks again, for all your positive words
Thank you so much for your reply, Alex. I was really wondering if I had understood it correctly, and your reply made the time I put into writing the review feel totally worthwhile. Wishing you all the best with your studies. You have bright future ahead %uD83D%uDE0A
Hello! I know it might be a while before you read this but it’s CATS to drop a review! This review won’t be as long as what you do for me and I apologize
I’ll be using my CATS Opinion method! Wait, I think this is even the first time I ever read your work! That’s just sad. But let’s dive into this one!
FLASH OF GLOWING EYES
At a first glance? I love the format and the way you styled it is so unique. The title makes the whole poem sound like it’s going to be stunningly emotional and beautiful! Reading on.
SOFT FUR
My favourite parts! This is deeply emotional as I said before and really deepens the bond between reader and narrator. I love that the narrator goes back in memories of his mother and his sister playing hide and seek, such a memorable moment. I also really love the last stanza because it wraps up the poem with the narrators grief, the nostalgia really hit hard and was such a bittersweet feeling.
WARM PURR
The parts that were done really well! I would think the first stanza was done really well because it includes the title before starting to the next and it flows so smoothly. The poem itself is very good, my poet friend!
SHARP CLAWS
I wouldn’t know what to say here. You are so much more advanced at writing poems then I am... so I’m sorry I don’t have any suggestions for improvements.
CONCLUDING MEOW
Overall this poem really sparks a feeling of grief sorrow and joy. I really enjoyed reading this and I hope you will have an awesome time at college and hoping you will graduate soon I miss you and...
happy everything
love
