What is a kenning?

Kennings are a compound expression in Old English and Old Norse poetry with metaphorical meaning.

So basically it's two words to create an adjective in place of a noun.

Some examples?

Police= Law Enforcer
Books= Parallel worlds
Poptarts= frosted cardboard
Rainbows: rain paint

How do you create a kenning?

Take the word "police" for example.

Think of all the words that are related to "police"

So: law, Justice, donuts, and protectors

Then think of words associated with the list you made and the word given and you've created a kenning!

So: law enforcer, Justice defender, donut muncher, and people protector.

What are the rules of the game?

1) Make a kenning out of the word the person before you posts.
2) You must create a kenning in order to give a kenning.
3) One person must post after you in order to post again

Let's start things off with: School.

@Dreamy shadow-giver works fine. Hyphenated words are allowed ish I think. But it's still kind of counts a 1 word rather than 2.

Just going to make a note: kenning refers to things like "fabric fashion" and "shadow-giver" not the base word you are describing. My inner English teacher says hello btw :P

Kenning: Salty Crisps

Word: Sweater
