Thane frowned slightly, then glanced at the professor. She was here to get a God crystal and get out, and getting on their bad side was not a smart move. "How do you propose getting out?"

Safi who'd been silently watching the whole thing unfold like a particularly intense verbal tennis match finally spoke up. She'd been pretending to have a nap the whole time, but this was probably not something she wanted to be left behind in here for.

"What's happening now?" she asked, pretending like she hadn't been listening in the last fifteen minutes.

Kynina closed the notebook. “It doesn’t sound to be within the rules, but I’m still listening.”

"Right,"said Safi,"this is detention, just us talking is definitely against the rules, not that I memorized them or anything."

Thane looked at Safi with a blank face that somehow felt like all the judgement in the world was packed behind it. "You memorized the rules?"

Kynina’s face was amused and curious instead of judgmental, but it asked the same question as Thane.

Safi shrunk a little at the look. "I was bored one day and I didn't want to mess up in school. Clearly that plan didn't work." She gestured around her. 'But oh well."

"Why are you here?" Thane asked, not in a 'why are you in detention?' way but in a 'why are you present in this moment?' kind of way. She knew it was probably a little harsh but she didn't stop herself anyway.

Safi shrank back a bit at the tone, but went ahead anyway. If anyone tried to use the reason she was in detention against her, she had all of theirs ready for use. She hoped she wouldn't have to though. She did not like that particular tactic.

"I was speaking out of turn apparently," said Safi. "I was making a fair point and the teacher..." She trailed off. As much as she disliked that teacher in this moment, she couldn't bring herself to just criticize someone like that.

Kynina clicked her tongue sadly. “Wow, they are really unfair here.”

"More like trigger-happy," Thane said.

"Yeah," said Safi, as quietly as possible. As much as she didn't want to say it, it was true and the truth couldn't be shied away from.

“Well.” Kynina cracked her knuckles. “I am getting kind of fed up with them, more and more, the longer we’re here.”

Thane didn't mention that she'd been fed up with the upper-class long before she even got here, and instead nodded quietly, her eyes narrowed as she thought everything over.

"A change or two would be nice," Safi said," although." She laughed self depreciatively. "I don't think I can do much about it."
