Getting in Shape… Poems
Summary: With the long-awaited 2016 YWS Writing Olympics finally at your doorstep, it’s about time your creative muscles got into shape. What better way to warm up than with a shape poem?
How to enter: In order to submit your poem, you must create it on some sort of writing platform that grants freedom to the crazy formatting you’re likely to require. Microsoft Word, Google Docs, and most any other program will do, but trying to post the direct text on this thread would be a nightmare. Therefore, it’s best to take a screenshot of your finished work and then post it here.
Description: Typically, a shape poem focuses on one item, molding the lines and verses into the shape of the object it is describing. An example of such a poem is @Moo’s Magpie, which, while describing the ninth life of a black cat, also embraces a feline form.
Your shape poem can be about absolutely anything. Judging will be based mainly upon shape difficulty, creativeness, and clarity, among other obvious things like voice and language.
Best of luck to you, brave Olympians, and I look forward to seeing your creative entries! If you have any questions, send me a PM or use the DT. You have exactly one day to get your entries in!
