This contest is CLOSED. Entries are being judged now and hopefully shouldn't take too long. Please don't ask me when they will be done; I don't know. The judges and I are going to try to get the results back as fast as possible for you. For now, this thread is locked. If anyone has a burning question that is not "when will the results be announced?" please feel free to PM me.
Spoiler! :
Valentine's Day is less than two months away.
Whether you're excited or dreading it, have a special someone to celebrate it with or just want an excuse to eat chocolate, the YWS staff will be hosting a contest that will bring out the inner hopeless romantic in all of us.
Your task is simple: write a short story or poem about love. It can be comedic, dramatic, take us through the joy and innocence of first love, the pain of losing love or take us through the heartbreak of unrequited love or ending relationships, or perhaps you want to write about the strong platonic bonds between friends; you name it. Other than that, what you want to include in your story or poem is your call, but please make sure that short stories are 2,000 words or less, poems are of reasonable length, and the content would be nothing more than PG-13. So no graphic intimacy, please.
The prizes are pretty sweet. Depending on the amount of entries we receive, the judges and I will pick a first, second and third prize for poetry and short stories. Here's what's at stake:
First prize: Choice of YWS coffee mug or YWS mousepad, from the store
Second prize: A YWS bookmark and YWS refrigerator magnet
Third prize: A YWS bookmark
Honorable mentions may or may not be awarded.
You will have until February 3rd to get your submissions in, and hopefully judging won't take too long after that. That's plenty of time, so start planning now.
Either post your entries to this thread or PM to me. Any questions? Shoot me a PM. Good luck, and we hope to see entries from all of you!
All our dreams can come true — if we have the courage to pursue them. -- Walt Disney
I'd rather waltz than just walk through the forest. The trees keep the tempo and they sway in time. Quartet of crickets chime in for the chorus. If I were to pluck on your heart strings would you strum on mine?
I'm in! Going to work on that from today. Probably will get it up by January. Because I don't want all the last minute 2012 bad luck to hit on me. :S A brand new year will do. ^^
I like nonsense, it wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living.
This sounds like fun. For now, I'll submit this, and if I'm able to write something until the deadline, I'll definitely let you know for a replacement if needed.
