YWS Pay per Page Model?

I can buy a book for less than a dollar. Why would I bother reviewing a story, which is almost guaranteed to be of lesser quality, when I can buy a lovely old book that has few, if any, grammar mistakes? If I have to pay per click, I am only going to be clicking on the stories that I know are going to be good, and that would be the older member's stories. And! Because I know of these older members and we're friends and such, then if I ask nicely, they can give me their stories to review for free, by email or such, or by the forum that I set up on my own website. Besides, if those members aren't actually getting paid for posting these stories, then they'll probably have no problems with giving me their stories and having me review it, free of charge.

Also, the premiums idea would suck royally for the moderators. I probably would have to resign if you implemented that, just because I check the stories and poems fairly often, just to make sure everything is in order, so I would be spending hundreds of dollars per month on YWS.

Also, if this is some sort of joke and thusly it's posted in Randomness, then it's in bad taste. Seriously.

I agree with Snoink completely, and I have the same worries. It would be extremely unfortunate for YWS if we have to do this.

You know, a site access fee in addition to per page would help if the crunch became truly terrible.

You put it in randomness, I don't know why I just didn't assume it in the first place! :)

Heh, whenever I put anything in Randomness, it's going to be a joke. But, I must be getting better at this because almost everyone fell for it!

To be absolutely serious, I would never, ever, ever do anything even remotely resembling this. It goes against so much of what I try to do with this site, and making people pay to access the site is just stupid to begin with. My aim here is to promote creative writing as a past time, and making people pay would defeat that purpose.

That said, I do know financial experts who are saying the current crisis is "Fall of Rome" type stuff, but I liken them to the people who thought the world was going to end in 500 A.D. Also, YWS revenue has been hit, but it hasn't been hit hard. The bank account I established in September has enough to tide YWS over for four months with no incoming revenue stream, and I have enough income to bolster that.

So financially, YWS is very sound right now, but still not enough to make it my day-job :(

By the way, for comparison purposes, YWS currently earns four one-hundredths of a US penny per page. That is, every 40 pages brings in one cent. If every page brought in one cent, that'd be $6000 per month.

Took me a second, because I was like, coming from a buisness standpoint, that's a really bad idea. It encourages people to *not* surf the site as often as possible... that doesn't make any sense at all. Generally you would want people *to* surf the site. Random clicking welcome.

And then I was like *head/desk* Joke, right, got it, funny funny.

I think the best idea for a joke on April Fools Day that anyone has ever given me (I forget who it was) would be to do absolutely nothing. Everyone would already be so convinced that I must have done something that I'm sure it would totally psyche everyone out :P
