"So do you reckon Sweep and I could get a room hereabouts?" I asked. "Or will our bad luck prevent us from doing so?" I looked at Zephyrus and River as much as I looked at Jade and Wes.

"Should do," said Wes. "It's not particularly busy."

"You don't think we will get attacked will we?" Jade said anxiously. "Perhaps we should move on."

I cocked my head at her, she seemed my exact opposite. Mum always used to give out to me for judging too quickly, but then again, she gave out to me for doing everything too quickly.

"We'll be fine." I assured her anyway, not wanting to scare away the first elf I had met in a month. "Besides, I bet River and you are awesome. He's an Earth dragon right? That is so cool!"

She gave me a slight smile and asked "What brings you here?"

"Somebody overshot." I said, looking affectionately at Sweep. "It wouldn't be the first time either. When you're travelling at the speed we go at, it's too easy."

"How fast can you go?"

"Nah-ah," Wes said, smiling slightly. "I'm not going to let you let her do all the talking. I'll hazard a guess that she talks far too much." At this, Sweep began to laugh uncontrollably. "So tell me, what's it like with an Earth dragon?"

Jade smiled as if she were feeling more comfortable around them. "River's amazing. He knows the land like the back of his paw. And he protects me from demons or other trouble with his abilities, making it look like a natural disaster. It's quite amusing."

Trissa laughed. "How fun! Most appropriate friend for you, I think."

"Well, it's either natural disasters or bad luck," Wes put in. Jade giggled. Trissa laughed, seeing the young elf was starting to open up.

"You better run, Wes," Trissa remarked. "You might just be jinxed yourself." She winked in Jade's direction as she said this.

"Nah, I'm invulnerable to jinxes and luck," Wes said, reclining against the bar edge and putting his hands behind his head.

Jade cocked her head. "Invulnerable?"

Wes laughed. "I'm teasing.. again."

Jade flushed. Wes rolled his eyes and was about to speak when Trissa nudged him. "Just stop talking," she hissed. "You're not helping any."

"You act like my mother and we just met," Wes grunted, but didn't go on further.

(In my first post I made it clear that Zephyrus wasn't coming into the town. 1: he's too big to fit in the bar, 2: people might get nervous around such a huge dragon. I guess I have to let it slide, seeing as how the story has moved so fast in just a few hours, but please pay more attention to what people post, or at least ask if you're not sure.)

(I'll post something later when my cold isn't keeping me from thinking.)

"Mother? I resent that. I'm not nearly old enough to be anyone's mother." I turned back to Jade. "Besides, I'd be a terrible mother. Ah, natural disasters. Do you remember that hurricane we started out in the West Sweep?"

"That was fun." she growled.

The others looked appalled. "It was in a desert, there was no one around." I said in my defence. "Besides, it looked pret-ty awesome."

"Mean." Wes said.

"So tell me," I said turning on him. "What's it like having an, apparently, very old and very famous dragon as a companion."

Wes looked serious. "He's a good companion. He's wise, and fair, and he doesn't start hurricanes for fun."

I saw the silver dragon give me a stern look.

"It wasn't harming anything!" I said. "Seriously! I'm a woodelf, I don't harm things for fun!"

"Woodelf? That would explain Sweep's colour," Wes remarked.

"Well, yeah. Pure silver isn't good in forests, teal is perfect." I winked at Jade. "And my dresses all match."

She giggled.

"Still," I said, stretching. "I'm dying for some excitement."

((Sorry, Dynamo. I guess we got over-excited seeing one of the Great Four Dragons  Feel better!))

The drunken Nina strolled over, a mug in hand, alcohol sloshing out onto the floor or into laps. "Hello, Jade! Met another elf! Woo, tha's three already. Us an' her. An' who's this devil?"

"Wes," he grunted disgustedly. "You elves drink often?" she muttered to Trissa.

Trissa didn't reply and turned to Jade who frowned at Nina.

"Ya know those demons that attacked us?" Nina said to Jade. "I was tellin' you 'bout them earlier."

"Demons?" Trissa repeated. Both her and Wes sat up in alarm.

"They're not far," Nina laughed. "Me and Yuki just managed to escape and traveled pretty far before we got here."

"Well, they'll be gaining ground as we speak," Wes grunted, his brow furrowed.

Jade watched Wes stand up and look at her with a strange look. He turned to Trissa. "Prepare defenses?"

Jade exchanged glances with River.

*whoops, so sorry Dynamo. We'll just pretend he isn't there... btw, Zephyrus' name keeps reminding me I need to do Latin revision (I think it's Ovid, Hypermnestra compares her trembling to slender corn shaken by gentle Zephyr...), anyway, sorry again, I got carried away by a big disapproving presence making me feel small, bit of a weird thing to be carried away with but anyway, moving on...*

"Demons?" I said. "Guess we do bring bad luck."

I looked at Sweep. "Ready for some action?" I asked her.

She snarled in agreement. I laughed.

"We've fought demons before, a million times." I said. "We can deal with them." I put my hand on my hilt and fingered it.

Jade still looked worried.

"You're not a fighter I'm guessing?" I asked her softly.

She shook her head. "No."

"Don't worry, Sweep and I will watch your backs."

She nodded.

"But what about the townspeople?" I asked.

Jade's fingers tapped her dagger beneath her cloak. Her skill with knives and daggers was definitely not as superior as swords or bows. She best stay back and let the others fight.

River nudged Jade, muttering, "Don't be a fool. They'll need your help."

"No, I'm a speck of dust on a mountain. I am not needed."

"Come on, then. We have some demons to kill!" Trissa said excitedly. She took Jade's wrist and led her outside.

"You coming?" Wes grunted in Nina's direction.

"'Course I am!" Nina said with a giggle. "You don't think I'm going to miss out on a little adventure. Yuuukiii!"

Wes frowned as the red dragon approached. "He's injured! Maybe you should stay?"

"Nah, he's a man. He can handle it," Nina said, slapping the dragon's neck.

Wes frowned, but argued no further. They moved outside.

"We need to draw them away from the village," I said. "Where's Zephyrus, we could take them there."

"To the south. But he's not out that far. We need to be out further than that unless you want to destroy the village."

"I could run," Trissa suggested. "I bet they'd follow an elf."

"We'll still need more people," said Nina with a hiccup.

"Which way are they coming from?" Wes asked.

"They're coming from the east." Nina was trying to shake off her drunken state.

"Let's head southeast and draw their attention away from the town."

"What about your dragon?" Jade asked.

"I'll signal him when the battle get started."

(Nina's about to sober up. Real quick and unrealistic-like.)

Nina~

Nina smiled. "Gimme a shec." She stumbled into the cave and grabbed some herbs. She quickly squeezed the juice into a cup and began drinking.

In a few minutes she was sober. She grabbed her sword and bow and ran back outside. She applied more herb juice to Yuki's wound, causing it to go numb. Yuki smiled, showing his dagger-sharp teeth.

"Ready?" She asked him. Yuki roared in reply. Nina smiled and looked at the others, waiting.

(that's all i can think of.)

"Just to tell you, no, not all elves drink that much." I muttered to Wes.

I drew out my sword, something I'm very proud of. It was made especially for me. It's thin, because I'm not strong enough, but it's hard, and sharp.

"So southeast then Sweep," I said, as Nina came out of the cave. "Feeling better?" I asked her.

"Much." she answered. "That stuff is a lifesaver."

"Is this all we have?" I said looking around. "I could have sworn I saw more dragons in town."
