The Curse of the Marie Celeste (all spots filled/starting)

Two ships. One treasure. One curse. And plenty of rum.

The Plot:

It is said that the British Royal Navy fears only two ships, the Llorona and the Syren. These two pirate ships are known all over the world for their terrifying stealth and ruthless crews. Both captains are clever and no ship that they have hunted has ever gotten away. The two are deadly rivals. Generally, they try to stay out of each other's way, but when they inevitably cross paths, violence ensues. The last time this happened, villagers on the coast nearby fled their homes for fear of the fight being taken to land.

Now, however, a tale has come up of a fabulous treasure, one that is not only vast in its riches, but which also grants a great power to any who possess it. Rumor has it that this treasure is locked in the hold of a ghost ship which floats in the Sargasso Sea, the Sea of Weeds. No one knows what happened to the crew of this ship, the Marie Celeste, but everyone who tells the tale does seem certain of one thing: The treasure is still there, ripe for the taking.

Of course, most dismiss such stories as rubbish, mindless supersitions. But pirates, being pirates, have their ears perked for any signs of treasure, and this one, something that could grant powers unimaginable to those who possess it, is irresistable. Soon, the crews of both the Llorona and the Syren are raking every port they come to for someone who has seen the Marie Celeste. When they find just such a person, the chase is on. As both ships race towards the Marie Celeste and a treasure beyond anyone's imagination, the pirates fail to connect two most important facts. For the treasure they seek is powerful, yes, but with it comes something terrible beyond belief, something the crew of the Marie Celeste discovered to their peril....

Name: Niccodaemus Burns, but usually called "Cap'n" or, if he's with friends, Nicco

Gender: Male

Age: 20

Ship: The Syren

Position on ship: Captain

Appearace: Nicco has long black hair and pale skin, which has a smattering of freckles. He is tall, around 6 foot and has a lean, strong frame. He has blue eyes. He is missing two fingers on his left hand, which were cut off in punishment for stealing supplies during his Royal Navy days. He has several scars, most notably one that runs from his nose to his right ear and one that runs from his shoulder to about half way down his chest. He wears loose shirts that are easy to move in and often wears the blue leather long coat that he took from one of the first ships he attacked. He wears long breeches and tall leather boots. He has two cutlasses in his belt as well as several firelocks.

Personality: Nicco is a headstrong young man, and he often lets his emotions get the better of him. He may be a pirate, but even when he takes ships, he doesn't usually kill any more than he has to. He tends to be very sarcastic, and it's best to not get on his bad side. He is more lenient than most captains, but if a crew member disobeys an order and puts the rest of the ship in danger, he will not tolerate it. He is fiercely protective of his crew, which he thinks of as his family.

Brief history: Nicco was an orphan on the streets of London before he got press-ganged at age 12 to be a midshipman on a ship of the Royal Navy. The crew of this particular ship was harsh, the captain even more so. Nicco used this to his advantage, and turned the crew against the captain. Thus, by the age of 14, Nicco had taken the ship for his own and entered the world of piracy. He's sailed around the world several times, taking rich cargos from the wealthiest merchants and governments and generally causing havoc.

Strengths/weaknesses: He is somewhat hotheaded, and reacts based on his emotions, which can get him into a lot of trouble. He is very protective though, and is a good person to have on your side.

Name: Tommy Harper (Real name Imogen Marie Harper )

Age: 18 (but pretending to be 15)

Gender: Female, but posing as a boy on the ship.

Ship: Syren

Position on ship: Cabin boy.

Appearance: Imogen is small and slender, both things helping her to pose as a younger boy. Her dark hair is shoulder length and tied back into a messy pony tail, topped with a baggy knit cap. Her nose is small and her cheeks rosy, and she has Large soft brown doe eyes. She tries hard to keep her male persona on, she has to remember to be careless in her appearance and has dirt under her nails. She wears a boys loose hat and her hat pulled low, she rarely meets someones eyes, keeping her face tipped down- most would take it as the habit of a shy boy.

Personality: Imogen is a gentle spitfire. A motherly soft person who's gentle strength makes her a rock to those around her. She puts people at ease with just her presence and they often will tell her things that they wouldn't just tell to anyone. People just naturally trust her. She's an innocent girl next door type but one who's been horrible hurt and is trying to keep living and forgive and forget, to just move on. She's not a born leader, but has found out the hard way that sometimes when you need help it isn't there and you need to save yourself.

Her alter self Tommy is a quiet soft spoken boy who seems older then his “fifteen” years. He strikes the others on board as a innocent boy, but an innocent boy they soon learned to trust. He's a hard worker to certainly earns his keep and is a quick learner. He's a deft hand at mending torn sails or bandaging cuts and his soup is a damn sight better then the cooks. He's got a weak arm at the ropes and but his tenacity and that he never gives up wins him the affection of most of the crew.

Strengths: Imogen still clings to her femininity and that coupled with her compassion and quiet strength keeps Imogen very grounded and firm in her beliefs. She has a quick mind and can grasp new concepts easily and is very good at learning on her feet.

Weaknesses: Imogen is still very innocent in many ways and also her femininity sometimes seeps out of her male persona. She's really a womanly little thing at heart and pretending to be a man is quite the challenge. She is haunted by her past and suffers from night terrors. She is deathly afraid of thunderstorms and the dark.

History: Imogen is/was the daughter of a innkeeper and his wife. She grew up in a small coastal town, helping in the inn and having a normal childhood for the most part. She had more schooling then most girls of her scocial standing but her mother before she married was a governess so Imogene had a greater education then most lower class girls. Imogen had an older brother Thomas or Tommy Everyone called him but he ran away to sea when Imogen was ten and hasn't been heard from since.

Imogens life goals was to find a nice boy, get married and have a family. She wanted to be a homemaker and a mother, but her dream was shattered horribly. She was brutally attacked by a group of local boys after a night of carousing in the inn. When she went to her parents her mother didn't believe her, she said good girls didn't have things like that happen to them. This hurt Imogen deeply, but the last straw was when she heard the boys plotting to do it again. She had to get out and she stole her brothers clothes and his name and fled the cove on a trading ship. She worked her way to the Caribbean and during these few weeks she came up with the persona of Tommy and once there somehow managed to get herself a position on the Syren. She's still not sure how she managed it but she did.


Other: Well, she's pretending to be a man so a relationship would be a little sticky for her but she is a romantic and still after everything carries her heart in her hands, she'd be the type to fall in love in spite of herself and not even realize before it's too late. Imogen has a lovely singing voice, like a real Siren but since she is pretending to be a man she hasn't sung since signing on.

Name: Brent Norwood

Gender: Male

Age: (15-30) 23

Ship: Llorona

Position on ship: Cook/Surgeon

Appearance: About 5'9", average build, with shoulder length light brown hair and blue eyes. He's rather tan from years of sailing. He wears loose clothing that is able to conceal his knives. He sometimes carries a gun but prefers a knife or a cutlass. He is missing the top part of his left ring finger (he claims it was a fight, but it was likely a chopping accident).

Personality: He has a sense of humor, which is somewhat necessary when you're feeding and trying to heal pirates. He's intelligent and makes an effort to nab a book or two when at port (he exchanges them so he never has many at once). He's fiercely loyal to his crew and feels guilty when his surgical skills fail him. He doesn't get angry easily but he can be impatient.

Brief history: Born in London's East End, Brent's mother was a "Lady of the Evening". His father is unknown, but his mother always claimed he was the son of a duke. He has never believed this, but will joke about it. He grew up with two younger sisters and stole to help his mother support them. He also learned to read and write from stolen books and his mother's Bible (he still has it. It makes a convenient knife holder). When he was 9, one of his sisters died of cholera, which made him fascinated with healing. He eventually became convinced that the cure to these illnesses could be found in faraway lands and at 13, he ran away and became a cabin boy on an East India Company ship. He sailed with them for several years, picking up skills in cooking and tending to injuries. However, when he was 19, his ship was overtaken by the Llorona. Sensing a new opportunity, he convinced the captain that a man of his skills would be a welcome addition to their crew. He has sailed with them ever since.

Strengths/weaknesses: Strengths-Intelligent, loyal, skilled thief. Weaknesses-not the best in combat (will probably try to avoid fighting and look for stuff to steal), impatient, has a tendency to daydream

Name: Alexa Scythe goes by Wolfe

Gender: Female

Age: 19
Ship: Syren

Position on ship: Gun Master

Appearance: Long black hair, cold grey eyes, tan skin. Stands 5'3 well muscled and is very graceful. High cheekbones, and light pink lips. A few scars on her chest and back from sword fights.

Personality: Alexa earned her nickname Wolfe she is fiercely loyal, she is also very vicious when it comes to battles, quiet, never leaves anyone behind, very helpful, has a soft spot when it comes to animals, can be sweet, and when it comes to her past she will never fully answer the question.

Brief history:She was a 'proper' young lady according to her parents. In truth she was secretly dressing up as a man and working because she hated the fact that she was forced to be dependent on men and having an arranged marriage the day before her wedding she packed every thing that could fetch a price and traded the pretty dresses and arranged marriage for life on the sea and she has been in love ever since. The reason she doesn't say anything about her past is because her parents are famous for the most pirate hangings in the entire country.

Strengths/weaknesses: Strengths: She is not only skilled with guns she's a fine swordswoman as well, she is very good at making people laugh, she is very good at helping, and is a very good friend. Weaknesses: She is easily distracted, she is quick tempered, sometimes the fact that she never leaves anyone behind will almost get her killed, and if you hit her behind her right knee for some reason she drops and is practically paralyzed

Other: Has an all black dog named Tyrant and is up for love.

Appearance:Long raven black hair well below her waist with silver streaks that matches her piercing moonlight silver eyes with dark violet flecks.She keeps her bangs at eye level as most people are frightened. Beautiful lightly tanned skin. Luna has an intricate crescent moon tattoo on her lower right abdomen, a yin and yang tattoo on the right, another crescent moon tattoo that curves the under part of her belly button and shows off the silver tear drop piercing. She has a long scar under her right eye and a small beauty mark just below the right side of her mouth. She's 6 ft tall with an athletic build. Her curvy body keep guys interested.

Personality: She's sweet, loyal, compassionate, and non judgmental.Very intuitive. She's fiercely loyal and won't take crap from anyone.She's the kind of person people would naturally turn to for leadership and guidance. She won't hesitate to tell you what she thinks, which makes her seem like a bitch to others who don't know her, but don't let that fool you. She is. She always keeps a cool head and doesn't loose her temper often, but when she does, people tend to end up with broken bones. She never jumps to conclusions and she never assumes. She's easy enough to get along with. If you don't have a problem with her, she doesn't have a problem with you. Respect her, and she respects you. It's as simple as that. Prejudice people get on her nerves, and she'd rather watch them drown from their own bodily fluids then deal with them, so watch your mouth around her. She doesn't have a problem with violence, so don't think she won't go there. She will. And never touch her. She absolutely hates it.She also loves to laugh. She does tend to act like a smart ass sometimes. Just so you know. Intimidation is something she's used to people using on her, so it work anymore. She's quiet for the most part. She likes to watch and learn. She's not stupid, and she can always tell when people are lying.Temperance doesn't like it when people won't look her in the eyes. It aggravates her. You'll come to find a lot of things aggravate her. One other thing you should know about her is she loves to laugh.

Brief history:Temperance grew up like most little girls did. Mother, Father, Sister. Temperance was 5 when her mother and father died in a robbery gone wrong, and since she didn't have any other family, Temperance and her sister were bounced around from orphanage to orphanage where abuse wasn't uncommon. She was lucky to go a day without having to do something disgusting for food. She did her best to protect her sister, but it wasn't enough. She found her sister hanging from a rafter one night. She left a note that told her why she'd done it. It doesn't take a genius to figure it out. Temperance snapped and killed the man who took her sister away from her. She was moved around a lot after that. One of the reasons Temperance had to move around so much was because everywhere she went, she left bodies like a trail of bread crumbs. The police had always suspected she had something to do with it, but could never prove anything. One orphanage after another, same disgusting men. After a while, she just ran away from the orphanage and never looked back. One thing she had to learn how to do was fend for herself at an early age.

She kept to the water to avoid the the police, but now she does it because it's the only thing she'd ever known, and because she loves it.

Strengths:She never jumps to conclusions. She's quick on her feet and can adapt to any situation.

Weaknesses:Her willingness to lay down her life for the ones she loves.

Other:She's looking for love, but doesn't think she'll ever find it.

Name: Mercury Horan

Gender: Male

Age: 19

Ship: Llorona

Position on ship: First mate

Appearance: Golden Brown hair that sweeps across his forehead. Stunning green eyes. A height of 5'11 and a athletic build. His face is clear beside the freckles that dot his cheeks and nose. He has tan skin from being outside all the time. He has scars racing up and down his back from when he was 8 from his father whipping him with a belt after he lied to his mother about not taking a piece of bread. He wears lose shirts and lose fitting jeans so he can move quickly if in danger. He usually carries his bow which is slung around his shoulder. He carries a dagger in his belt if ever in hand to hand combat

Personality: Mercury is very laid back but also can get super serious in a matter in seconds if ever in trouble. He isn't afraid of a fight but would never dare to ever kill. He fights for the ones he loves and never gives in. He loves to make jokes and help around the ship. He can be flirty if he ever becomes attracted to anybody he couldn't bare to live without.

Brief history: Mercury grew up in the city where his fathers shop was. His mother was very sick, and his father worked very hard to keep her alive. He hit Mercury and became more violent after his mom died. His mother died when he was 7 and his father started going a little paranoid. He hit mercury on a monthly bases till they became more often. Mercury went to a near-by school and wasn't the best student in the world. He often stole from the teachers and sold them to get money for his father to get food with. His father didn't like that so he beat him for it. Mercury ran away at the age of 12 and found the Llorana leaving. His swam out to the boat and hid in the storage room till he was found 2 days later and welcomed to the crew.

Strengths/weaknesses: Strength: Mercury is a amazing bow master and can row a knife at 100 feet away. Weakness: The hunting image of his father screaming at him that he is nothing.

Other: He is up for love.

Two people, if I'm not mistaking, Alvarin and Janika, are both aiming at the same spot ^^ you should PM Red with the captain's profile, but if you go for the cabin boy, you can just post here.

Gender: Male

Age: 26

Ship: Llorona

Position on ship: Navigator!

Appearance: 6'2", with a lean build. Felix has sandy brown hair that curls around his face, and a light beard on his chin. His eyes are dark brown and fairly round. He has a pierced lobe, in which he wears a gold hoop. Normally, he ties a blue bandana around his head. He owns a black wool coat, but does not put it to use except in winter. He normally wears loose cotton shirts, dark breeches, and tall leather boots. Two daggers sit around his hip. His abdomen is covered with tattoos, souveniers from his travels, but his arms and neck are bare.

Personality: Somber and quiet, Felix is not one to engage in lighthearted conversation. He prefers to keep to the sea and focus on charting the course. When engaged, he is witty and sharp-tongued.

Brief history: Felix was the illegitimate son of a lesser noble and a prostitute. His mother died in childbirth, and he grew up learning in church schools. His interest in geography grew, and when he was eight years old a navigator took him on as an apprentice. He learned the trade and has been navigating alone since the age of fifteen.

Strengths/weaknesses: Strengths: His sense of direction, patience, and cunning. Weaknesses: Combat, women, and honest trade.

Other: He has sailed on the Llorona before.
