It's cool. They're all born with powers dormant inside of them and if your person just doesn't know they have powers yet or if you don't want them to reveal how they found out about their powers that's cool.

What nether gates are you talking about?

Nether Gates are basically Gates made of the power of Karzari, in which only Dark Fundamentals can transcend.

I might change, if I don't really understand the concept.

What powers could a Dark have, other than the Nether Gates?

Umbrakinesis (Ability to control darkness), summoning of demons, summoning of undead, other evil nastiness.

Dark Spirit Fundamentals have the power to control dark matter and basically shadows. There are no demons. No undead. I suggest talking to me before you invent all these little scenarios in your head xD Dark Fundamental powers can only be used where there is a source of darkness.

Think basically like shadow manipulation.

So, like manipulating darkness to cover them from enemies, blending into darkness, being able to see clear through it. Stuff like that?

Well considering I suggested the whole Light and Dark business, I thought it would be okay to answer.

Doesnn't matter. She's still the boss, and if she wants to tweak the L&D's powers to suit her, then she has every right to.

Also, for fighting, they can control a certain amount of dark matter/energy, this comes from Dark Fundamentals basically being born from Karzai's wrath.

Alright, back story time.

The four original Fundamental groups are of your basic elements: Earth, Water, Fire, and Air.

The two Spirit Fundamental groups, Light and Dark, did not emerge until after the great war (Ignorance, I think you know what I mean by this). The Light Fundamentals are born from the four great Fundamentals that sacrificed their selves to defeat Karzai. Their "light" is basically the Four's goodness, purity, and protection. The Dark Fundamentals were born from Karzai's wrath and their powers reflect this.

In this SB you have the countries where our characters Elements are from- do our characters at the beginning of the Sb live in said countries? Or do they live in the SB-verse version of Modern day earth?

No, we're human, from Earth. Our characters really don't know anything about the Immortal realm, Fundamentals, or anything. We'll learn more once we get into The Service. It'll make more sense once we start.
