Rosey Unicorn hasn't been able to access YWS since 4 PM EST. Every time she tries, she gets a blank page. She has already tried clearing both her cache and cookies, to no effect.

Browser: Safari v5.1.9
OS: Mac v10.8.6

And a screenshot:

I decided to let a page stay open for over 45 seconds and discovered the page loaded after 1 to 3 minutes. 3 minutes if I've entered in something that needs processing.

Other bugs that seem to not be loading:

- No chatbar (Although according to Kyll I show up in it)
- No quick reply
- No drop down menus (So, I had to click the button to sign in, and nothing pops up when I click "Me" in the black bar)

I haven't exactly had a chance to check other functions, considering this is the second time I've gotten on all day (it had been really slow before 4, and I lost functionality in about 10 minutes).

Sent an email to Rosey.

Just sounds like a bad connection. If it took a long time for the page to load, then it's a network issue which would explain the other issues as well.

All other sites have really fast loading times, though. Under 2 seconds. Tumblr is the longest but it's so picture heavy I get that. Google is 1 second, so is facebook, various webcomics I have bookmarked are 1-2 seconds, and YouTube can play a video instantly without needing to wait for it to buffer. And nothing is missing on those pages, either.

My slow loading times/things not working are exclusively to YWS.

Not all sites are located on the same server.

Since you're the only one experiencing the issue, what's likely happening is that somewhere between your computer and the YWS server, there's a bad connection. If you want to see where the bad connection is, go into the terminal on your mac and type in:

traceroute youngwriterssociety.com

That'll give you an idea where the bad connection lies.

I get:

Failed to open page
Safari can't find the server

Safari can't open the page "http://traceroute%20youngwriterssociety.com/" because Safari can't find the server "traceroute youngwriterssociety.com".

You need to type it into the terminal. It's an application; probably under utilities.

That's not too bad; slightly slow but not by much. Here's mine for example:

What a traceroute does is it tells you how long it takes to get a response from each step in the connection chain. It does this three times for each step, which the three numbers on each line represent. From this, you can calculate an average.

Also, since YWS uses a CDN, you're only seeing the steps from your network to the CDN server. The steps between the CDN server and YWS' actual server aren't show. To get the latter, you can do:
traceroute direct.youngwriterssociety.com

You'll see a bunch more steps when you do that. But in any case, not much that can be done.

The only difference seems to be the number of hops— I have 64, while you have 30.

I did the traceroute direct, to:

The speed seems to be half fixed. I had a few minutes of fast speed, and now it's slowed down again on my second tab (no idea how long my first tab will be).

I guess it's maintenance somewhere that's only affecting my computer. I try on my ipod and I have no problems at all.

Edit- Those few minutes were all I got, lol I can no longer load second tabs on YWS and the speed's back to slow.

O_o... I thought this was a friendly forum, but lo, it has been overrun by strange, alien code. ;)

Profile Picture Problem

I tried uploading a picture to the "About" section on my profile page... but it won't work

I get this message in red: "The image failed to upload. Most likely, there is an error in the image that is causing the problem. Please try again."

Note: This message only occurs when submitting in JPG or Png format

So, I converted the pic to GIF and uploaded it... this time the submission went through. But there was still no picture on the page.

Then I tried resizing... I went down to 400p, and then 380p, but still no luck. Any smaller and the purpose would sort of be defeated.

In every single case the file size was less than 200kb, which are the only specifications given on the "edit profile page"

Others have had problems with this as well, although some are able to submit pics for some reason. Help greatly appreciated.

This is the final version I was trying to upload...

I converted it back to JPG though, even though I was trying to submit in GIF

BTW, here is the screenshot of the error message. (Just for kicks)

Eloquent, in that screenshot, is that what YWS always looks like for you? The "Edit Profile" page looks completely smushed.
