Jayden
The bahamut roars behind me, ordering me to stop. Whatever I'd done to piss it off, it definitely holds a grudge. My paws dig into the ground below me, scraping against the dirt and sending me flying. My muscles ache and my lungs scream out for me to stop and catch my breath. I keep going, though, until I finally give up and shift from my kitsune form into my phoenix.
Leaping into the air, I fly around him and try to use my size as an advantage. The creature attempts to claw at me, but it's to no avail. Before he can hit me, my wings fizzle out and I find myself back in kitsune form, landing on his face. He claws at his face until we make headway towards the ground.
I jump off just as he turns human, and I land on the ground on all four paws. Shaking off the impact, I bolt straight for a small forest and look for cover. I don't stop until my legs give out, shifting human and pulling myself to cover beneath some bushes. He'd be back after me soon, but for now I needed to rest.

I sit beneath a tree with Kaden, an older kid from our orphanage. He talks and I listen, adding in some of the conversation. My stomach flutters until I begin to feel watched. A giant red bird flies overhead us, but only I seem to notice, as Kaden keeps talking about his football career. I stop listening and wondering what it could be.
Looking back at him, I slip back into focus and smile. He talks for a while longer, the sun growing brighter as the day goes. I shift uncomfortably in the heat and wish it was colder, sitting back against the tree and sprawling out. He keeps talking and I begin to question what exactly I saw in him in the first place.
Then I hear something, faint but there. Tensing, I daze out of the conversation and focus on everything else with a slight smirk.
