The Town Plaza

Ian

I set Kyle on his feet and keep ahold of his hand, leading him behind Ella. I order a hot chocolate for both of us and a small cinnamon roll for him.

Ella

I sit at a table once I get it.

Ian

I follow Ella and help Kyle with his hot chocolate, not wanting him to spill it.

Ella

I smile at Kyle and Ian, sipping my drink.

Ian

I let him on his own and watch as he takes the cup off of the table and looks at me.

"Smashy?" he asks.

I take the cup and shake my head, pointing to his cinnamon roll.

"No, Ky," I chuckle, "Eat."

Ella

I smile and watch them, mostly watching Ian before snapping out of it and clearing my throat, "So..."

Ian

I glance at Ella, "So... are you staying here long-term or is it just a stop along the way?"

Ella

"long-term," I say, "My parents think I'm too old to live with them. I'm almost nineteen."

Ian

I nod, "I've been on my own since seventeen. My parents disowned me after what happened with Kyle, and I just moved out. My extended family is who I visit across seas. But... anyways. What are you doing for work? Or do you know yet?"

Ella

I shake my head, "No. I...I want to be an artist. I also play piano, but I don't think I'll get anywhere with that."

Ian

I nod, "You could be a teacher. Piano teacher, I mean. The local art center might need one. Either way, you should head down there. They could help you figure things out."

Ella

I nod, biting my lip, "I guess..."

Ian

I nod and split the cinnamon roll for Kyle, who has still yet to do anything about.

Ella

I smile and look at him, for some reason feeling warm inside. Sighing, I finish my coffee, "How old are you?"

Ian

I flash a smile, "Just turned twenty."
