Land of Dragons

*There have been so many stories about dragons. Either riding them or hunting them. I thought it would be interesting to try a storybook from the perspective of the dragons for once.*

A Land of Dragons:

Plot: Dra'ka'on, a world ruled by the winged serpents of the sky. In this world dragons stand above all life. They have governed long and wisely. But in the last centuries tragedy has struck their race. And now in the present time, the Dragons are on the brink of extinction.

The trouble began with the females. They had trouble laying eggs, and more often then not the eggs were infertile. Then babes within the few viable eggs were born dead, or deformed. Of those few hatchlings that were successfully born only a small handful survived to fledging.

And now the noose tightens even further around their necks. For the elder dragons have begun to fall ill. With little time left the few remaining healthy drakes are entrusted with a mission. Either find the cause of the disease, or leave and find a new home far away.

And so the desperate search for a cure begins.

Name: Echo
Age: 320
Gender: Male
Appearance: Smaller, but muscular, wedge-shaped head, thick jaw, slitted purple eyes, all black, except for white swept-back feelers on forehead, very large wings, two sets of secondary wings for maneuvering, long tail, large double tail fin, long talons. Will add picture later.
Personality: Although Echo has a lighter side, he rarely shows it. He's very protective of the other dragons, and feels like it's his job to use his skills and knowledge to help them. He's determined in a quiet way, and will never give up once he sets his mind on something. He enjoys the thrill of flying, and likes to take younger dragons up with him.
History: Echo had five other siblings, but only one of his sisters lived to be 20 years old. He had been the strongest of his clutch, so he was always overprotective of his sister. She began to resent him for that, and shortly after she learned to fly, she left to see the world. They were quite close as hatchlings, and Echo was very hurt when she left. He sees her occasionally, but not nearly as much as he'd like to. He tries to learn from his mistake, but he sometimes can't help himself.
Gift: Echo can read minds, and can communicate telepathically with other mind readers.
Breath: Super-heated fire, looks blue.

Name-Icesse (Ice for short)
Age- 22

Personality-she is small but a fast flier and enjoys the sky she feel so free there. She is very nice to everything and only kills if she has to do it and is willing to help any one.
History-Her first time having a egg was hard on her because when she layed it the shell was so thin it broke and her egg was a mess in front of her. When her mate found this out he left her to never come back now she is alone.
Gift- changing wind direction
Breath- liquid ice. what ever it touch is turned to ice
Other-looking for a mate

*In this world dragons have incredibly long lifespans. They live for centuries. A decade is the equivilant of a single year in human terms.*

Name- Pyratis (Pyr for short)
Age- 20 (he only just fledged and became able to fly)
Gender- male

Appearance- Pyr is large for his age, but since he is still quite young he's still small by dragon standards. A rare crimson drake, the two long horns on his head are white except for the black tips. He has a larger then average wingspan, granting him incredible stamina and maneuverablity in the air. Pyr has a bit of trouble speed wise though, as he is still new to flight.

Personality- Wild and adventurous, Pyr has a reckless kind of courage mixed with a fatal dose of curiosity. Stubborn and independent with a strong confidence in himself. As a child he was forever wandering off away from the nest. He has an outgoing personality and makes friends easily. A natural born leader.

History- One of a uncommonly large clutch of fifteen. Of his siblings only four hatched successfully and Pyr was the only one of them to survive to First Flight. His brothers and sisters all died at varying stages over the past two decades. In sharp contrast to his clutchmates Pyr was perfectly healthy, almost too healthy. Gifted with a boundless amout of energy his father would often take him hunting and exploring the mountains surrounding his home.

Life was pretty good for Pyr until six years ago. When the last of his siblings died his mother grieved herself to death, and his father followed her soon afterward. Young Pyr was left to fend for himself. Over the next two years he made the journey from the cave where he was born to the distant Dragon City. Some of the older dragons tried to adopt him but by that point Pyr was half feral. He flat out refused to let anyone 'replace' his family. The way he saw it he'd survived so far and he would do just fine on his own.

Gift- The ability to interact with the spirit realm. Not only can he see ghosts but he can become like them. Unseen and insubstantial.

Breath- White-hot flame, literally the fire is white it's so hot.

Other- Let's just say Pyr needs someone to temper his flame.

*So I guess no one else is joining. Oh well, I guess we can start with what we've got. Will post shortly.*

Name- Adelinda (Her friends call her Addie)

Age- 160

Gender- Female

Appearance- Adelinda finds herself a very attractive dragon. She is strong and lean, with broad, smooth wings. Her scales are deep purple in colour and exceptionally shiny. Her eyes are like two red rubies. She also has a set of cream coloured horns.

Personality- The name Adelinda literally means "noble serpent," and she lives up to her name. She tends to be very full of herself, obsessing over her appearance and hunting abilities. She has a sense of entitlement. Her best quality is her sensitivity to other dragons' emotions. She is diplomatic, and a peacemaker.

History- Born in a well-to-do family, Adelinda was the only egg that hatched out of the four in her nest. Shortly after, her mother laid another small clutch, out of which only one hatchling came, but he was severely deformed. When the hatchling survived until the usual time of First Flight, their father made him disappear for good, saying it was for the best. A huge fight between Addie's parents ensued, ending in her father being driven away, and Addie never knew where he went. Not many years later, Addie's mother commited suicide out of grief for her lost mate and her dead babies, leaving Adelinda alone with an ailing paternal grandmother.

This, as you would expect, left scars on Adelinda. She has flirted with a decent number of males, but never had a mate. There was one relationship that got close, but it never got all the way before he mysteriously disappeared.

Gift- Telekinesis. The limitation: she can't move anything with her mind that she is not strong enough to move in the ordinary way.

Breath- Lightning

Name: Numaria

Age: 190

Gender: Female

Personality: She's very proud of how beautiful her wings are, but not exactly stuck up. She's graceful and elegant, very much a perfectionist. Very friendly once you get to know her but a little shy and reserved at first.

History: Born in a small clutch of five, Numaria and her sister Lumani were the only two to survive hatching and First Flight. Her father died mysteriously when she was only 18, leaving her mother to care for her and her sister. After they grew up, they traveled together to Dragon City, but along the way they got separated. She hasn't seen Lumani since.

Gift: Change colour (like a chameleon)

Breath: Black fire

Name-Edala
Age-35
Gender-female
Appearance- Is a silver dragon with black spikes running down her back, and has large black skin wings, also has a white under belly, and a sharp blade at the end of her tail
Personality-fierce, silent, strong will, and caring but only to few
History-was one of three eggs that survived and lived on this long and now has successfully laid two eggs but her mate has suddenly died and can't leave her eggs to eat for is afraid something might happen to them so her time is running out fast unless she gets help soon
Gift- has a second dragon form can easily trick others with it
Breath- poisonous acid
Other-second form has fur in replacement of the spikes and blade at end of tail had feather wings instead of skin

*Alright let's kick this thing off.*

Pyratis:

Pyr fanned his wings out as basked in the warm summer sun. The white sand rubbed pleasantly against his scales as he napped on the beach. He loved spending time on the beaches in Dragon City, Pyr practically lived there during the warmer months.

He knew that he would have to get up soon and go meet the others. They would be leaving for the mission soon. Pyr yawned. He'd get up, but right now he was just... too... comfortable... Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz....

*Feel free to interupt his nap.*

Adelinda:

Addie was enjoying a lazy morning flight. Every so often, when the sun heated up her dark scales to a point just above comfortable, she dipped into the water, flying back up dripping wet and just cool enough. She rolled over in the air to check the position of the sun. It was getting late. She dropped into the water and swam back to shore.

A young dragon she knew, Pyratis, napped onto the sand. She trotted up the beach and gentley nudged him awake. "Hello, little fellow," she said, shaking the water off herself. It splattered over the little red drake. "Ready for the mission?"

Edala

I lay in an isolated cave with two eggs resting close to my white belly. I was becoming very small since I hadn't eaten in awhile, my mate Drygo died right after I had laid the eggs. I was gonna die soon if another dragon didn't find me, and I couldn't leave my eggs either, I was doomed to die before my eggs ever hatched.

Ice

Fly at top speed over a larger lake to the other side I was ready to go but I was running late. They where going to be so mad at me but thankfully my gift of changing the wind was helping me speed up. Just over the hill I see the city where I will be meet the others for the first time but something stop me. I don't know what it is but I stop dead in the sky and dive toward the earth and open my wind just before I hit. When I land the ground shakes a little for I'm small for my age and start to listen. "Hello can any one help me I need help I'm in the cave" said a faint voice cling from a covered cave. "I'm coming in to help please don't hurt me" I awnser back.

*Pyr may be small now but like all young dragons he grows fast. And he's going to be huge. Keep in mind he's already big for his age.*

Pyratis:

Pyr cracked open an eyelid and gazed at Addie. Like him she was one of the few dragons still untouched by the Scourge. He stretched, arching his back like a cat and shook vigorously, dislodging and sand from his scales.

He smiled sheepishly at Addie. "Thanks for waking me up Ad. I probably would have slept right through the departure if you hadn't."
