Looks good KRose. You're in! Just make sure you stay in character.

"Okay hello everyone and welcome to the challenge! A few last minute rules before we head out. Make sure to participate as much as possible and if you haven't packed your backpack yet make sure you do that today or we will just issue you a pack that we fill ourselves. You've all just arrived at a campground where we will be staying until we head out to the mountain. Here's a little background about the place we're going. The mountain we will be climbing is actually a volcano that has been dormant for hundreds of years so people just call it a mountain. The sides are mostly wooded and there is wildlife there. As you near the top the trees will become less and there might even be some snow up there. Another thing, the mountain is on an island so part of stage one is getting there. To do that we will take a large ship until we get five miles away. From there you will kayak to the island. It's a race and the first kayak there will get a large meal. The people who get there after will have to rely on the woods or their packs. You will be paired up and there will be two people per kayak. Here are you kayaks:

Get some practice today so we can head out tomorrow. I will now announce the pairs. You can not change your partner unless you have a very good reason. For right now try to get to know each other as much as possible.
Pairs:
Rylet Carney (UpAndOut15) with Noah Wyatt (VampireSenshi512)
Zohan (zohali93) with Warren Mueller (tigrly)
Brigid Szpirglas (SidereaAquila) with Andrew ‘Andy’ Stone (KeiPie)
Lydia ‘Teal’ Donnely (xXmusicaXx) with Mario Sorenson (Cailey)
And Rosette (KRose) I'm hoping someone else will apply sometime today so you can have a partner. If not we'll have to make other arrangements. If any of you know of one more guy who would like to join please tell us! Let's head over to the dining hall right now so you guys can talk while we eat then it's time for you guys to practice your kayaking skills.
I'll be here if you have any questions at all. Have fun!"

Spoiler
By the way this storybook has now started so please any non SB comments or late profiles go to the DT. Also we are in need of one more guy and if we don't find anyone could one of you take on another character?
Also make sure you add a heading to each post like this: Name|Place. This will make it easier to keep track of everyone.

Warren-
I find my partner in the crowd.
"Umm, Hi," I say, "want to practice? I'm Warren."

I make my way to an empty table. I don't really want to talk to anyone right now. The girl who's going to be my partner is a certain Brigid Szpirglas. I saw her earlier today. At least I'm not stuck with someone awful. I stare down at my food. What am I going to do? I don't have any strategy but at least I'm strong. I can paddle that kayak easy I think. We should probably practice but I'm not going to ask to do that. If Brigid thinks it is necessary then she'll make a move. For the moment I'll just wait here.

I looked around, searching for my partner. Lydia, or Teal, as I'd heard her being called earlier. I walked over, seeing her. Man was she pretty. "Hey, what's up? I hear we're partners? Pretty cool, huh?" She was sitting in the sand, so I flopped down next to her and pointed to the distant horizon. "Man, you can't even see the island!"
"That's okay, we can make it," she assured me.
"Well, duh, you've got me! Though I gotta say, I've never kyaked before." She shrugged, seeming rather annoyed. "So, you wanna practice or something?"

There was my kayak partner, Andy Stone, sitting alone at a table, staring down at a plate of food like he wanted to strangle it. He seemed like a more somber type, which I was actually happy about. Bouncy, peppy people could be very annoying.

"Hey," I said, walking over and leaning on the table. "I know Katherine said we should practice, but I know I can steer well, and you look like you can paddle, so if you don't want to practice, that's fine with me. I'll probably just take a nap, anyway."

I glance around for the boy I'm paired with, not sure about how this would work. Sighing, I sit down by a tree and wait for him to approach, not seeing him. The anxiety to get started pulses through my veins and I bounce my knee up and down as I wait, restless. I knew I should have been paying attention during introductions...

I walk around for a while until I find the girl that I'm paired with, she's sitting under a tree. She doesn't look to good, she must be nervous. I walk up to the tree, sitting down next to her.

"Hey, my names Noah. What's yours?" I ask.

I look around, feeling alone, and unwanted. Why did I have to be the last person to sign up? I know our mailing system is VERY slow, but I wish I could have signed up earlier.... I need a partner. I have never kayaked before, and I'm very nervous. I am strong, but I have NO idea whatsoever how to steer! What will I do? I am in desperate need of some friendliness right now.

I look around, and notice the boy named Mario, and the girl named Lydia sitting next to each other. I'm alone. Completely alone. Nobody to talk to, nobody to help me, just alone. I shudder and sit down as far away from everybody. Sighing, I stick my feet into the cold water. Not to mention that I am the youngest, and probably the most inexperienced....

I looked around for my new partner, what was his name again? Oh yeah, it was Warren. I was really shocked considering the fact that i had to work together alone with him. I was hoping for a girl to be my partner. I wasn't sure about how i would react around him. Hopefully he wouldn't see through my disguise. so far no one knew who i really was or the fact that i'm actually a girl.

I look around for my partner, not remembering what her name was. I see a boy who looks pretty nervous looking around too, so I head towards him.
"Umm, hey, are you Zohan?" I ask, "I'm Warren."

I glance at the boy as he sits at my side.
"My name's Noah." He introduces. "What's yours?"
"Rylet." I reply, offering to shake hands. "How about some practice?"

"I hope you've all had a chance to introduce yourselves. I just talked with the board and we've decided to do a little change. Instead of two people kayaks, you will be using a three person kayak. Sorry about this last minute change. I tried to keep the teams almost the same. So here are your new kayaks:

I ran out onto the beach to find Rylet. "Hey Rylet!" I called. "Rylet!" She would probably want to practice.

There she was, sitting under a tree. She turned around at the sound of her name, and stood up when she saw me approaching. "Hi," she said. "You're Brigid?"

"Yup," I answered. "Andy's in the dining hall. Did you want to practice, or not?"

"Yes, I think we should," Rylet replied. "Let's go get Andy."

I walked back toward the dining hall with Rylet. "Hey," I began. "Am I pronouncing your name right? Rye-let? No silent T?"

Way, way back in the 1988 Presidential election, then Vice President George H W Bush had a phrase he liked to use: "A Thousand Points of Light." It refers to the idea that a community is made up of people who contribute in a thousand, different small ways, but with each helping to illuminate their community. It's a phrase I think about a lot when it comes to YWS. Looking forward, the site will continue to change and grow, but it will always remain a community dedicated to promoting creative writing as a favorite pastime.
