Kam
I grip the dagger at my side, and hover around the savior's camp, keeping to the shadows. All of my senses are on the alert now: I can smell the fear rising from Ava's body amid the smoke of their campfire, I can see the individual specks of light in Burn's dead eyes, I can hear their breath, taste their uncertainty.
I take all of this in, adrenaline tingling in my fingertips, waiting to be released. I get ready to strike, twirl the blade between my fingers.
The moon unveils her face, casting a single beam through the forest canopy onto the blade of my knife. For a split second Ava's quick green eyes, tinged with moonlight, meet mine. For a split second, I look at her and find her beautiful. Then I know I'm done for.
