Tarragon College (Started)

I don't know if anyone remembers on YWS, but about two years ago I started a story book with quite a few other people called Tarragon College that went quite well, and then there was After Tarragon another storybook that had yet another good response. It was a load of fun so I thought I'd try to start another one up again!

Setting

Tarragon College is a college for gifted individuals, in the seemingly peaceful English countryside. The college currently accepts pupils aged eleven to eighteen, with 'unusual' abilities, and tries to train, protect and provide a safe environment for these children.

But it's not always safe with hundreds of super natural teenagers reeking havoc on the grounds... and with each other.

Outside Tarragon, people are aware of children and adults with special abilities but few believe such things really exist and those individuals that do go into the media spot light were abused by the press and tested on by curious scientists.


Rules

-There is no 'decided' plot to this story book, it is very much you decide how it goes as we write, although I do have a few ideas.

-You can either be a teacher or student (although people usually choose student) or if you really want some extra role you can come up with.

-You can also choose any super natural ability you wish, although no god characters and please remember these are young adults, there abilities are meant to not be fully developed. With these kind of things, imperfection makes for a better story, not the character with the best super power.

-No killing other peoples characters, without their permission.

-If you don't want to post every few days, do not join this storybook!

- One character each.

-Light swearing is permitted, but no heavy sexual content please

Here's my character...

Name: Heather

Age: 17

Appearance: Long wavy ginger hair,and pale eyes. She's of a small build, but is stronger than she looks. She has a wonky smile and just a few freckles under her eyes, even though these are mostly hidden with eye liner.

Personality: Heather is often wild and out of control. Mostly friendly and good humoured with her peers, her main fault is her fiery temper. She is not violent but often rebels against authority and disregards many of the rules in place at Tarragon. Academically she excels at music and drama, but often neglects her other studies such as English and Math.

Role: Student

Power: Shape-shifts into a cheetah

Weaknesses: No control, she cannot always manipulate her shape shifting at will, and sometimes when she shifts she cannot change back into a human for some time. Her shape shifting does also not give her a huge fighting ability, however she is very fast and can heal slightly quicker than the average human.

Back Story: Heather's from a large family background, she has three older sisters and is often glad to be at Tarragon to escape them. Her father recently divorced her mother and she is struggling with understanding why, it often relates to her lack of trust with adults. She developed her power genetically, her grandfather was a shifter and so is one of her older sisters. When she was seven she started shifting, but it became a hazard to protect her from the media frenzy that surrounds powers, so she was enrolled in Tarragon aged 11, and is a full time boarder.

Other: Up for Love, often found running loops around the grounds of Tarragon or sitting up in trees listening to music. She frequently walks out of lessons when she doesn't feel like it...

Name: Serra Angela
Age: 18
Appearance: Long raven black hair just past her butt, almond shaped saphire blue eyes, deep circles underneath her eyes, her ears are pierced all the way around, so is her nose, lip and chin, has the tattoo of a raven made of black flames on her left forearm, loves to put hair extensions in her hair.
Personality: Sarcastic, has a biting temper, cold, sweet, kind hearted, loves animals, reading, and music, has a dark sense of humor, quiet, introverted, and very sensitive.
Role: Student
Power: Necromancy
Weaknesses: Has no control of her power, can't sleep because spirits won't leave her alone, she snaps at very bad times, has weak knees, and can't lie for the life of her.
Back Story: Her parents were ghost investigators but didn't believe Serra when she said that she could see ghost and thought that she was insane. They took her to a mental institution which just made it worse because she could see and hear the ghosts of the people who died in the hospital. Eventually someone realized that 'hey she's not crazy!' and sent her home.
Other: She will often if she's completely alone have her headphones in because it drowns out the ghosts, if she can't get to her music in time and she's alone she'll curl into a ball with her hands to her ears begging for the spirits to leave her alone, she loves to draw.

Name: Lucas (Luke) Ray
Age: 19

Luke is often seen in fitting, dark colored jeans and light grey, black, white, or navy shirts. He's not emo, but he's never really taken to light colors.
Personality:
Role: Student
Power: Luke can speak in people's minds. So far he has figured how to control his tone of voice but much of the time his mood leaks in with his words so the person being spoken to get a dash of whatever they're feeling. If his voice gets loud in the listener's mind, it can cause black-outs/fainting. It just depends on the emotion he is feeling at the time.
Anger and love makes the power stronger and more uncontrollable, whereas sadness or depression makes the power strong but it's controllable, and happiness it's medium strength and somewhat controllable.

Name: Aurora Night
Age: 17

Personality: Smart, peppy, sardonic, friendly but get her mad and she will lash out on you. Prefers to be alone when sad or have that special someone who is also a shoulder to cry on.
Role: student
Power: Agility, shape-shifting, supersense, and the ablity to remove sense
Weaknesses: When she gets really emotional she loses control of her power
Back Story: Orphaned whn she was just 13 Aurora moved in with her emancipated boyfriend, Jessie, for 3 years. One day while otu with Jessie on his motorcycle Aurora accidently removes Jessie senses disabling hhim and the motorcycle crashed leaving Jessie dead and Aurora barley alive. In foster care until she was 18 Aurora decided to come to Tarragon College where she will be able to learn to control her powers.
Other: She plays the guitar and drum.
Up for love: Yup, but you will need to get her to open up because she still grieves for Jessie.

Name: Lex
Age: 16

Personality: In reality Lex is a very nervous person, and that's how she discovered her power. Usually she is very on edge around people she doesn't know but when, or more accurately if, she becomes friends with someone then she is likely to be much more at ease as she has a mild case of paranoia. Usually Lex is very kind to those around her and despite her nervous disposition will try to stand up to bullies and brake up fights.

Role: Student

Power: Shadow walking; the ability to turn herself into a living shadow and is for all intents and purposes invisible to those around her. When her power has fully developed she will be able to dematerialise and reappear wherever she wants so long as it is within a 100mile radius, however at the moment she is liable to jump when overwhelmed both physically and/or emotionally so don't be confused if Lex randomly disappears.

Weaknesses: Her main weakness at the moment is her vulnerability and susceptibility to emotions which cause her to vanish almost randomly. Lex has always worn her heart on her sleeve, so the easiest way to hurt her would be to attack her emotionally. Another weakness is that she is physically weak however she makes up for this in speed and intelligence. While most other peoples power don't usually affect her, anti-magic or a magic dampener field will stop her in her tracks.

Back Story: Lex has a very clouded history and doesn't really remember all that much... At the age of six her father sexually abused her which was the start of her anxiety problems, while this was kept a secret from Lex's mother she couldn't help but feel something was wrong. In later months she did in fact find out about her husbands actions towards their daughter and promptly divorced him taking Lex with her, and trying to provide as normal a life she could for Lex. Up until the age of 13 Lex's life was fairly normal although she was picked on fairly regularly in school and quite severely too, all because of her fathers eyes and mothers skin. It was during one case of being bullied that Lex discovered her ability... She was pinned against the wall with a group of drunk adolescent males trying to rape and beat her, it was during this extreme sense of panic and fear that she made her first jump. She reappeared at her home where she found her mother with a new man, a teacher who hated Lex. Not knowing what else to do Lex ran away and got herself accepted into this school for the 'strange' at the beginning of the last school year. In that year alone she has grown into a much stronger and less nervous person. Now she is where she is.

Other: She is up for love and is straight, although it may take a while for her to over her nervousness.

Nice profiles guys, looks like almost all the of characters have anger and control issues, should be interesting!

Name: Zaine Draxon
Age: 17 (but he'll turn 18 in about a week)

Appearance: Tall and slender with unruly black hair that is normally tied back with a bandanna. He has luminous golden eyes that glow when he uses his power. Zaine has tan skin from being outside so much. He has a muscular build but it's not really noticable, Zaine is built along the lines of a junglecat and he moves with a predatory grace.

Personality: He is tall, muscular, and handsome, often attracting girls but he pays no attention to any of them. He is proud slightly arrogant, but surprisingly smart. He is a bit rebellious, but has a caring side which he is often embarrassed to show. Due to his past Zaine has a tendency to flout authority and tradition. He has a reckless disregard for danger that drives him to take incredible risks.

Role: Student but he skips a lot.

Power: Born with the power to manipulate time and space. He can freeze time, slow or speed it up, and teleport great distances. (And those are only the powers he's discovered so far.)

Weaknesses: Like most students at Tarragon Zaine has difficulty controlling his power. When he gets emotional his powers trigger without his knowing causing him or anyone near him to be caught in an altered time-stream.

Getting his powers to work comes easily to him, it's getting them to stop that's the hard part. Zaine is also wary of teleporting since his last attempt nearly ended with him implanted in a wall, not a nice way to go.

Back Story: Zaine was born into one of the oldest and wealthiest families in the world. They can trace their heritage all the way back to the Roman Empire and Ancient Greece. Every couple of generations someone in the family is born with the ability to manipulate time and space, which gave rise to the legend that the family is descended from the Titan-God Kronos. Legend also has it that those with this power stop aging once their control becomes good enough. A legend Zaine whole heartedly believes since his several times great-grandmother still looks like she's 28.

He started using his powers at a very young age, seriously he was using it before he could walk. His father, who had married into the Draxon family, didn't take the revelation very well. He left but came back when Zaine was five and abducted him. Zaine was taken to a secret military facility where his paternal grandfather was a head scientist. There Zaine simply became known as Subject. He was studied and experimented on, sometimes brutally.

When he was thirteen the Draxon's finally found and rescued him. In the process they destroyed the facility, but Zaine's father, Grandfather, and all the research data escaped. Zaine was sent to Tarragon for his own safety and to learn the control his family should have taught him as a child.

Other: Up for love, Zaine can often be found on a rooftop when he's skipping class. Since his rescue his family has become very overprotectective and they visit him often. Zaine is the future head of his family.

So when will we be starting, I can't wait.

Neither can I! But I think we should give it another day, to see if anyone else wants to join and get people to finish up their character profiles. Your starting entry or chapter should be when your character returns to Tarragon College after the summer, (either dropped off by parents, making their own way there) and we will just see where it goes from there.

Plus Sylver Dawn, I so think Heather would be friends with Zaine...

Name: Emma
Age: 17
Appearance: Emma has straight, light brown hair that she keeps in a ponytail. Her eyes are green-gold. She's fare-skinned with a smattering of freckles. She has a willowy build and rarely smiles.
Personality: Emma is very studious. Emma is a pacifist. She'll often start crying if she sees someone get hurt and feels even worse if it's her fault. Because of this, she has become reserved and prefers to keep to herself, which makes her come off at first as cold and distant. She has trouble making friends, but once she does, she's a very loyal ally. Emma is studious and a hard worker. She'll do anything to learn how to control her power, but nothing seems to be working.
Role: Student
Power: Able to cause people intense pain with her mind.
Weaknesses: Difficult to control. The closer you are to her, the harder it is to control and when she's sad or tired, it becomes even harder. Also, she is deeply opposed to ever using her power. Emma doesn't know the full extent of her power and really doesn't want to find out.
Back Story: Emma lived with her father who was normal and her mother who could numb pain. She lived a normal life until about two years ago, when her powers began to surface. But after months of unsuccessful attempts to control it and her father taking a trip to the ER because of a heart attack he had because of her power, Emma couldn't stand putting her parents in danger any longer and convinced them to let her come to Tarragon
Other: Up for love, of course. She can most often be found wherever there is the least number of people with her head bent over a book, studying.

Name: Michael Arcand

Age: 17

Appearance: Michael has a pretty plain face, except for a scar that is partially covered by his dirt brown hair but crosses between his silvery gray eyes. He is 5’ 9” but his build is hard to make out because he always wearing hoodies and cargo pants. His clothing choices allow him to carry metal ‘things’ without displaying them openly. He’s also commonly seen spinning a piece of metal in his hand.

Personality: Michael likes to talk to people, but if the conversation steers to close to himself or his past he’ll steer it away as subtly as possible. He also likes to push people’s buttons. He’s academically a great student, but despite that he frustrates the teachers because he looks for every loophole and points it out… to the students. He hides any deeper layers.

Role: Student

Power: He has the ability to control and/or generate magnetic fields.

Weaknesses: Unlike many other students, Michael is pretty good at using his power. However he’s pretty paranoid. If anyone seems to pay too much attention to him, he looks to see where the knife is hidden. He also is pretty suspicious of the school in general. At the moment he is making a ‘trump card’ if he should need it.

Back Story: Michael didn’t have a good home growing up because his dad had some anger issues, but his mother loved him and protected him. One night his father returned home drunk, and after getting into another fit of anger he killed Michael’s mother with a kitchen knife. But suddenly, the knife flipped out of the man’s grasp and flew over to where Michael was standing in the doorway, hitting the surprised boy in the head. “So the boy wants to play with the grownups now?” Michael’s father said in a slurred voice, grinning at the blood trickling down Michaels face, “Okay, let’s see what you got.” Anger suddenly consumed the boy, and in a blur the blade that Michael had been holding flew through the air and plunged into his father’s heart.
A man showed up two days later offering him a chance to be a student at his school. Michael accepted and left soon afterwards with the man, a bloodied kitchen knife pocketed in his jacket.

Other: Could be up for love later, but he definitively isn't right now.

Name: Nicholas Stone

Age: Classified

Appearance: Dark brown hair, with a tinge of white smeared right down the middle. Red eyes. A nasty scowl. About 6'8", but nobody knows that because he's always hunched. Wears a dark jacket, and pure black jeans.

Personality: Nicholas prefers to stay away from other people, staying to the shadows. He is not a people person.

Role: Student

Power: He is an unbelievably good murderer.

Weakness: He doesn't appear to have a weakness, but images of vampires make him angry. Silver freaks him out, too.

Back Story: He says that he lived in the woods on his own, no parents or guardians to protect him. After a horrible life, he says, he decided to go to this school to gain some more... abilities. He seems hungry for more strengths.

Other: Not up for love, as he stays away from other people. He says that he would be glad to assist teachers in dissections, as he is very skilled in that category. He doesn't want a roommate.
