Watercolor Flowers

Painted this way back in May after I watched a Youtube video. This was when I first started to paint, so that's why the background looks so weird. Tell me what you guys think anyway!

I really like this XD. The flowers are very vibrant and pretty, and although it's a simple, ordinairy thing to paint, I think you've done a good job because it's not too boring. I love the way the colours are arranged and the blending, and the single flower on the surface.

Onto the critiques-

1) The vase is slightly wonky, if you look, it seems to be standing like this \ when it should be straight .

2)Because of this, the way it's placed looks unnatural, as if it should be about to tip over.

3) The leaves are awesome, but in some places (especially the left side) they don't really dissapear entirely, and just look like green lines.

4)The handle isn't very defined, so it's a bit confusing ^_~.

5) At the moment, there isn't much evidence of light/shadow.

Overall, I think that this is a great painting! You're probably even better now, heh :3.

I really loved this painting. I believe that it is beautiful. And you said that the background was a little off? I believe that it brings out the flowers more. I also love how you painted a flower at the bottom of the base as if it fell from its place on its stem, and how you painted it so real. Like how you painted a yellow flower under some of the red and purple ones? I found that amazing! I loved this painting and I can't wait to see more!

Hi! It's great to meet you and I might as well tell you how I simple adore your avvie. It's really, really cool. So the first thing I want to say is basically that I have dabbled in watercolor only during those typical elementary art classes where the teachers are all axe murderers in disguise, so you're already much better at this than me and how artistically accurate this might be, who knows?

This watercolor is so beautiful! There's a few mistakes, obviously, but I especially love how totally bright and "popping" the flowers are! They really do contrast against the background and provide that beautiful spectrum of colors and diversity in the painting that really draws our eyes to them and makes them the definite focal point against the rather drab background. So, kudos on that aspect, most definitely! Also, the flower that seems to have fallen out of the vase - I love how it is a little darker; it is really quite interesting and made me ponder a bit. Rambling, gotta love it.

The few things I noticed that weren't as spectacularly awesome as the rest of the watercolor painting were: a) the vase, b) the vase handle, c) the background and d) the flower on the ground [I'll explain]. Addressing the vase I am not quite sure if it was just over-contrasted when you snapped a picture of it with your camera, or if it's my un-callibrated monitor, but for me the upper left-ish corner (when you're looking at it) is very, very white with little to no blue. I think there should be some, not even that noticeable, light blue shading in that area to fill it out. Also, the vase's shape and where it meets the table (I assume) seems awkward from how I am looking at it. It seems a little "stiff" to me, if that makes any sense at all. *yay for not knowing how to translate thoughts into words*

The vase handle, to me, seems a tad lost in the background. There is not much definition between the handle and the background, so it made me squint a little (but then again, I am wearing my old contact lenses, so perhaps it's just me). I would just define that a little bit more, maybe make the background a tad darker or saturate some more blue on the handle; not too much, however, just a bit, so you still keep that appearance of distance. The background is a little sloppy in some places, but even you admitted that! What bothered me a bit was seeing the pinkish drops near the handle, as it really interrupted the streak pattern of the background you had going. In watercolor, it is really easy to add shapes in the background and just pile on the water, etcetera, to make it blurred out, so I'd recommend doing that. As for the flower on the ground, I feel like it's missing something - namely, a stem. I don't know, it isn't like I have fifteen bajillion suitors sending me flowers daily, but I recently got a huge bouquet with flowers a lot like these, actually. They didn't fall off as whole flowers; they fell as petals or my sisters ripped the whole thing - stem included - out and just tossed it on the table. So, I think it would be more realistic to have just a few petals or a flower with a stem that's browning a bit from no water.

But, alas, I really did like this. It looks a little like something I drew when I was in seventh grade for an art class. Really pretty and nicely done! I hope this helps.

In regards to the vase...Well, it's actually not a vase. =_=' It's supposed to be a pitcher and that's why there's a handle and the left side is tilted more. But that's my fault, since you didn't see it.

Wow this is absolutely beautiful! In fact, marvelous! Because, I know its really tough to paint. Roach has already given you lovely detailed review. So, there isn't much to say for me. What I think is, you should have experimented with different shades of red, yellow. Just a thought! I love it! You have true talent and don't let anyone ever tell you other wise! Paint the world with you talent.
