The Big Random Story contest was run in June 2011 with the grand prize being a 3G Kindle. Second place won a $50 gift card, and third place won a $25 gift card. Additionally, we actually ran two of these contests: one for those 13-17, and another for those 18+. The concept for the contest was that you had to write a short story based on the YWS random theme generator. In all, we received a total of 130 entries. Elinor Brynn, MeanMrMustard, and Calligraphy helped with judging.
Judging was extraordinarily difficult owing not only to the number of entries but also to the excellence of many of them. It was very plain that people put great care into their piece.
